Key point............................................GOD ALLOWED...............FALLEN CREATION............STUFF HAPPENS............God IS THERE to SEE US THROUGH..........well, for those who believe in Him and call upon Him...........
Almost...'stuff' just doesn't 'happen'. Hopefully we aren't Deists.

I have seen a lot of post lately that would suggest that some believe God wants believers to be poor and sick....Now I know some are trying to counter what they believe is false teaching, but you cant throw away the blessings and promises of God, just because you believe someone is misusing the truth.

"The blessing of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow".... Its absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

"by His stripes, we are healed" ..is absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

Now if anyone wants to be sick and poor, I will pray for you :)

If anyone wants to discuss these issue in a godly and respectful way? I will be glad to have that discussion :)

(about to go to work) so it might be later
Apparently, or it would not be so for his people. I've been rich, poor, rich, poor, rich, poor, poorer, and back up to poor.

Biblical proof:
Ecc. 3:1-8 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
(And why is a song by The Byrds playing in my mind? :confused:)

I agree ...and a true believer would see the blessing of the Lord as a way to help others, but poor people can hardly feed themselves, much less feed other needy people.

Not always the case. Husband and I don't have much money at all but we've had God give ways to give to others. Either unexpected money or putting things on our heart. He always will give a way to everyone to be a help and encouragement to others, it's a matter largely of whether we follow through or not.

Just zero compassion or love, in shifting the blame to the suffering, despicable. Many, many wonderful saints of God have suffered, are suffering a we speak. Some people are on a Pharisaical pedestal that's likely to get the legs sawed off.

nonsense..............and despicable...........and inane............

the only blame shifting going on are the ones insisting that IT'S ALL GODS FAULT! I'll trust God........you trust your own wisdom.............see how that works out for you.

I was in a church where a pastor said if you get sick you must have some sin, or not having faith in God very well. for God wants to heal you of all your infirmities. needless to say, this church got big for a short time, then crashed and burned because people realised we all get sick, and it is not because we do not have faith in God. and that pastor did not last long.

That was in reply to Crossnote #23 observation, failed to do the Quote button. Sorry.

Lol.
At first l thought, now l have to go rounds with my friends?!!
What's happening with this place?

I wouldn't go rounds with you anyway, l like to be able to walk away with a tiny bit of pride. :)

Now, if you'll excuse me l have to go buy a home gym to work on my six pack that l wash clothes for the poor on.

Move on?

I did not attack a godly thing, I am attacking a disease which has infiltrated the church, (Yes, I had this disease once, but have been cured)

This is an open chat room, Your arrogantly think you have the right to tell me to move on, Your pride is showing itself!

Sorry, I'm moving on. Just another hate thread

And now, Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in You.
Deliver me from all my transgressions;
Make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I have become mute, I do not open my mouth,

Because it is You who have done it.

Remove Your plague from me;
Because of the opposition of Your hand I am perishing.

With reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity;
You consume as a moth what is precious to him;
Surely every man is a mere breath. (Ps 39:7-11)

I saw your post and was aghast at myself it may look like that. No, it wasn't a reply to you! Sorry, just a born klutz some days, the ones where I lose my salvation, put in ChristianChat terms.

so a dude drinks (although never gets drunk) and smokes every day of his adult life. He never gets lung or liver disease. He ends up dieing of natural causes when he was 93. Outlived most religious do gooders who did not drink or smoke. and won numerous people to Christ,

I take it Gods will had nothing to do determining this man did not get ill, while so many others did get ill..

Gods will means nothing.

Jesus was a man of modest means. He didn't have savings. He had to get his tax money from a fish.

John the Baptist lived in deliberate austerity.

And then there is this: John 3:1-3 (RSV)

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth. [SUP]2 [/SUP]And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” [SUP]3 [/SUP]Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.[SUP][a][/SUP]

So, I guess God does allow some to be deliberately poor (by the world's standards) and deliberately ill (again by the world's standards) so that his works may be manifest within them.

Additionally, part of what people aren't considering regarding these ideas of poverty, prosperity, illness, and healing is how influenced we all our by acculturation. We're constantly assaulted with images of all the material goods that we should have--whether they are particularly useful or necessary. It's easy to rationalize our desires for the "newest toy" by claiming that "God wants me to prosper."

I'm not sure, for example, that having 50 pairs of shoes (most of which are rarely worn) is a sign of God's prosperity. It seems more like a sign of material gluttony and greed.

Sorry reborn, but fate has it that you have been delegated to the lower depths of sick humor .:)

Sometimes I believe there's a doctrine of "don't trust your lying eyes or ears." Nor scripture, of course. Just senseless.

Just earlier this morning, when I awoke, I got up from bed, and CHOSE not to put on my glasses, started out of my bedroom towards the kitchen for that first cup of coffee which I could smell the wonderful aroma of. The hall door was only PARTIALLY open, rather than push it all the way open, I just tried to slide through, banged my knee on the door jamb AND NOW I got a "boo-boo" on my knee that "ouches" me.

Hey................GOD WILLED IT! IT'S ALL HIS FAULT........HE WANTED TO SEE ME HOPPING AROUND GASPING FROM THE PAIN AND now in no mood to enjoy that first cup of coffee. YUP! GOD DID IT! Not me, I'M JUST A VICTIM OF HIS WILL!

(all of this sounds somewhat like the Calvinist ideology of man being a "victim" of God)

I had a great uncle did exactly that.

Some of the greatest testimonies that I have ever heard have came from Christians who have spent a life in poverty and sickness. I think that most of us have no idea what true wealth is.

God tells us in His Word that there will be trials......so why are we blaming Him for the Truth.....I have been a single mother
for a very long time......so being poor .....never destitude....but still ...with never enough money.....I have been broken in my body...
and in those times.....well...that was when I have had the opportunity to build my faith....to learn how to solely depend on God
for everything......I have had tax people wonder how I ever got through .....as the income never quite matches the outgoing.....
those times made me strong.....made me seek God diligently......never forgetting Him......funny...I dont think I would have gained
so much if I had no struggles .....enough money....and I know im the richest person ....... what ever happened to........through trials brings wisdom....
Jmo..........peace ...jo

BOOM!!!

There you have it!

My family was very poor growing up, but my parents always had a heart for people in need. Seriously, no matter how poor you are, there's always someone out there who is more needy. I was raised with the setting aside of pennies to support the poor in the 3rd world, or the inviting people to spend the night who had no place to sleep, or the giving away of a toy or clothes to someone who needed them more.

In my experience, it is the poor who are very cognizant of the needs of the poor...because they're living it. They're in a position to empathize. My parents never politicized someone in need and examined if their need was due to sin or if they somehow "deserved" it. They saw a need they could meet, and they met it.

Now that I'm part of the middle class, I meet a lot of people who blame the poor for their poverty or who are only willing to give to the "deserving" or "noble" poor. But a hungry kid is a hungry kid. Give him a sandwich already.
