I will always say it's possible. The difficulties i have with scripture is to know when its true meaning is to be understood in the literal or figurative sense, because clearly to the reader of the Bible it is literal and figurative or symbolic.
I try not to get too focused on one aspect of it all, i try to look at the bigger picture of things.
Can science put an end to all corruption and poverty?, no it can not.
Can mans politics end corruption and poverty?, it appears it can not.
Can Evolution put an end to corruption and poverty absolutely not.
Can Christianity put an end to all corruption and poverty?, it appears it can not.
Is it all down to hope?, if so which one of the above offers the best hope to end all the troubles in the world?
But then again a scientific evolutionist is not going to allow anothers worldview that would jeapardize their own, it's a known fact that there are those that are of the atheistic and evolutionary worldview who despise religion so one can not rule out bias, it's very obvious to some.

Why do some people say the Earth "looks old"...???
What is it about the Earth that "looks old"...???
I cannot think of anything on Earth that looks like it is billions of years old.
I agree but Christians can not is what i mean. It's a hope and probably the only real one?
Because the earth, rocks show decay, you can something new and fresh but how would anyone know if the earth is young? how young is it?, people make assumptions on the age of the universe and earth, how would you know what a billion years old anything looks like if nobody knows what it looks like?. The six thousand year old universe is based on Biblical assumptions the same as billions of years is to evolution.
So, go out on a limb here.
Do you think that the Earth is closer to 4.54 billion years old like the Smithsonian and Carnegie and Christians like Hugh Ross and Francis Collins say or . . .
. . . closer to 6,000 years old like Ken Ham's Creation Museum and Dr. Dino's (Kent Hovind) Dinosaur Adventure Land say?
That's a real big discrepancy - 4.54 billion or 6,000.
How can we narrow this discrepancy and come to some mutually acceptable age for the Earth?
I thought Christians were supposed to come to some sort of unified voice. Right?
It really depends on the subject matter at hand, it is with regret that i should inform you that Christianity is divided. I am really not the person to quote an age for our known universe and every phenomena within it. That might sound like a copout but i can not trust any dating method absolutely to explain exactly how old or young the universe is, science can be reliable but i do believe that the six thousand year old universe is an assumption based off the literal interpreataion of what some say is 144 hours of creation, i'm not really convinced by that summing up, what i do see is an old earth not a young freshly made earth, it really does look worn and dated in places.

I could look at some old furniture and say:
"Man, that table looks like it was made 200 years ago."
- and, it would be based on experiential knowledge from my lifetime.
I could look at a tree and say:
"Yep, that tree has been here a very long time."
How would I know whether it is 6000 years old versus 6 billion years old?

Exactly right, there are no absolutes with the age of the universe nor the earth, there are assumptions from evolution and assumptions from young earth creationists. Even YEC's think that the earth looks old.
That is why they had to invent the assertion that God creates with apparent age.

Jackie, Christians should only form one unified voice if they unite under the banner of God's truth, not to compromise Scripture to placate the evolutionist elite and the world at large. It doesn't work eg. Richard Dawkins and others have no more love for theistic evolutionists than they do day-agers, progressive creationists, biblical creationists
I think God is fooling anyone who believes that the earth and universe is millions and billions of years old. He will fool the unbelievers when Satan reveals himself so why not now. He created everything, even the things that we are measuring time and distance with. Not the instruments of course, but the light from supposedly distant galaxies, etc. and the carbon that is used to date things on this planet and there is no reason to think that he wouldn't have made dinosaur bones and other relics. I understand that there are only about 6 or 7 thousand years between Adam and Eve's time and our present time so that means that we could be living in 12 to 14 thousand light year globe of a universe and the rest of what we are seeing is just the light that God sent streaming in. By the way doesn't He paint beautiful heavens?

The overwhelming body of credible scientific information indicates that the earth is far older than 6,000 years old, that dinosaurs did not coexist with humans, and that there was no global flood 4,000 to 5,000 years ago.
You can spit against that wind if you want, but it's foolish.
Furthermore, an old earth, no dino for dinner, and no global flood is not in conflict with the Bible.
I don't see anyone effectively refuting Bowman's old earth interpretation of Scripture right here on this thread.
