So, I'm just wondering. Like, what's really that wrong with it, as long as it doesn't become some addiction or compulsion. It's the safest form of sex haha...it can aid with stress relief...it's a natural and healthy exploration...WebMD ok's it. So why do Christians have such a problem with it?

I suppose you don't believe sex before marriage is a sin?

That's a little off topic from my post. I was simply asking a question on Christian's views...let's not turn this into attacking people based on 'assumptions'.

It's just that most Christians see it as a sin because sex before marriage is a sin. You did say it was a "form of sex" afterall.

Also, in the old testament and in Judaism I believe, a man would be unclean..and would have to stay outside the camp for 7 days I think or something like that. It's a sin from the point of view of uncleanness.

Add to that, the fact that it is usually accompanied by lustful thoughts..lust is a sin..and so it's wrong from that point of view as well and the fact that it's almost impossible to do it and not lust. It's a sin because of the desires and thoughts that accompany it.

You know in the olden days, it was called "self abuse".

Probably the only gender to have any good medical reason to do it, is males.

nope, Most of the time I don't. Basiclly I don't think it's a problem as long as I'm looking at porn, or really any pictures of girls while I'm doing it...

In my experience, many Christians are uncomfortable with it for three reasons...

1) They're under the assumption that masturbation is completely dependent on lust, when there's no Biblical or medical evidence to support that assertion. Modern science has actually proven that while sexual intercourse boosts the libido, masturbation does not. Scripture clearly condemns lust, but there is nothing in the Bible which suggests the two are inherently linked.

2) They are following the age-old classification of masturbation as a sex act unto itself, and using that opinion to group it with clearly-defined Biblical sins like fornication, adultery, incest, homosexuality, or bestiality. While the Bible is very outspoken regarding these others, it is actually silent on the topic of masturbation itself. According to the actual text, it is neither condoned nor prohibited.

3) They are parroting what others (most often friends or close family) have taught them. Many who do this will classify masturbation as a "perversion", or lump it in with "sexual immorality", rarely (if ever) providing a Biblical foundation for such a classification. Some will even cite the Old Testament story of Onan as a depiction of masturbation, but the tale itself actually adheres better to the so-called "withdrawal method" of birth control.

You do all the math on this, and it becomes very clear that the Bible does not condemn nor endorse the physical practice of masturbation. Lust is prohibited, but it is possible to masturbate without lusting. It's not easy, but it can be done. It takes a conscious desire to serve God with your body, and the determination to focus on things other than lust. When done properly, I believe it can be used as a "preventive measure", so those who wish to serve God won't sin against Him by desiring people who aren't their spouse, or "shacking up" just to get their physical needs met.

If you want more information on this, I'd suggest these links, at a website called The Marriage Bed.

WEll I don't want to offend you, but a lot of guys are like that. Also, I have to ask if you are truly here on this forum with a real question, or if you are just making some trouble, getting people upset by the things you are saying. You are a little bit too forward with that, and the way that you shared so much info about looking at pornography backs that question. Do you believe that it's right to engage in lustfully looking at naked women. Somebody's daughter for pete sake. Anyway, I'm not here to run you down, just to point out that you gotta ask yourself " is it something our Savior Jesus Christ would do?" and remember satan had taken Him out into the wilderness and tempted Him in every way possible. It's in the bible young man. I hope your not just asking foolish questions, and when you get your answer, you deny it. You are conforming to the ways of the flesh, satans tacticful lie of " do what thou wilt." You know very well it is inappropriate, guilt or not, God does not say go and masturbate if you cannot conrol your urges before marriage.

I'm a 29-year-old man myself, but what does age or gender have to do with it? Physically speaking, both sexes are capable of masturbation; the issue right now is Scripture's stance on the matter.

Just because you don't feel guilty of something does not mean it is ok. The Bible says that in the Last days people will have their conscience seared with a hot iron. I have comitted that sin before but I felt guilty and repented.

Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleaness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5

That verse just said to deaden your body members for sexual immorality. Masterbation is not deadening them, it is springing them to life.

The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 1 Corinthians 7:4

That seams pretty clear to me that we can't mess with our own bodies even if were married.

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every women have her own husband.1 Corinthians 7:2

Does it say to avoid fornication, masterbate, no it says to find a wife or husband.

All these Godless heathens that are on Operah will tell you that it is normal to masterbate and that it is perfectly healthy. It may be physical heathy but so would stelling something from a store, but it is spiritualy deadly. Masterbation is like smoking and drugs and any other habit its hard to overcome, but the more you resist and the longer you abstain, it will eventualy become less demanding. But what happens when you keep on, your body creats a demand for it and therefore you keep doing it.

The main reason is because of lust. Lust is a sin, and it's hard to masturbate without lusting. You can't masturbate and sing "Amazing Grace" at the same time; it just dosen't work. And even if you didn't look at porn while you masturbate, you still are thinking and lusting with your mind. Also, you are taking pleasure away from your wife or future wife, and that is only supposed to be pleasurable with a married couple.
OK, first thing, you need to use punctuation. I've fixed this post for you, in my quote of it. Now, let's tackle these issues one at a time...

Lust is a sin, and it's hard to masturbate without lusting.
It is difficult to accomplish this, that much is true...but that doesn't mean its not possible. Lust can be born in the heart, regardless of whether an individual is masturbating or not. The two are not inherently linked, contrary to popular belief.

You can't masturbate and sing "Amazing Grace" at the same time; it just dosen't work.
I know you're probably joking with this comment, but I'd like to address it anyway. the core question for every person is, "Why are you masturbating?" Is it to fill a void that needs surrendeirng to God? If so, then you're doing it for the wrong reason. Lust is often involved with this activity, but not always. If someone claims they are able to masturbate while focusing on God (and yes, even if reciting "Amazing Grace" in their mind), who am I to say they're lying? Only God knows and understands the depths of the human heart.

And even if you didn't look at porn while you masturbate, you still are thinking and lusting with your mind.
This isn't necessarily true. I do agree that using pornography for this activity is wrong, but the absence of it doesn't automatically mean that the individual is lusting, either. Also, its important to note that not all sexual thoughts are lustful. If a person masturbates for the purpose of gaining a physical release so they won't sleep around, is it wrong for them to enjoy the emotional "high" that accompanies that release?

Also, you are taking pleasure away from your wife or future wife, and that is only supposed to be pleasurable with a married couple.
The Bible says that fornication, adultery, homosexuality, incest, and bestiality are wrong. All of these are sexual acts which involve some kind of partner, and also violate God's created institution of marriage. As such, they are off-limits, but there is no mention of masturbation in Scripture, one way or the other...it's not in there. It might actually be easier if God had given us explicit instruction on this, but He didn't. This presents a challenge for those who think its sinful, because in order to claim such a thing, they must first explain why God didn't mention it at all. Surely, He knew what would happen in modern society, so if it were inherently sinful He'd have said so.

Moviefan the Bible also says that the works of the flesh are uncleaness in Galatians 6:19 all of which will not inherit the Kingdom of God. ...nor abusers of themselves with mankind 1 Corinthians 6:9 Masterbation is uncleaness it is abusing yourself.

I noticed your article is based strickly on man's opinion and not the Bible. What does the Bible say about this.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof; are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

By whose definition? The Bible mentions nothing about the practice of masturbation at all, let alone classifying it as "uncleanness" or abuse. In Old Testament times, ritual uncleanness was also the result of someone having sex with their own spouse, but you don't see that nowadays, do you?

Which article are you referring to? If its from the website I recommended, which one did you read? I know a few of them reference Bible verses; my point is that despite common perception, the actual text of the Bible is silent on this subject. If a person is going to call any behavior a sin, then the burden rests on them to first explain why God did not say so Himself. Lumping it in with other verses based on personal opinion means nothing; if you or anyone can find a verse which expressly mentions masturbation, let alone the condemnation of it, I'd love to address it.
