I was thinking about this, raspberry pi2.. its like $35 dollars for a computer.. just put linux on there and it's solid.. it even has HDMI. Has anyone tried it out? Apparently, way better than raspberry pi1.

  • A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
  • 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
  • Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1

Don't get me wrong. Apple is great... like BMW and Mercedes Benz... but if I had to buy a car.. I would like to be able to modify it or have the freedom to select what is the specs, etc.. Just my personal preference... nothing against BMW or Benz.. they are great cars.

I'm not against Apple...I like wozniak.
Wholly agree. You lose out on some of the QC that makes Apple products as stable as they generally are when you open up the potential for people to do whatever they want with a product, however. One thing this job has taught me is that enthusiasts are dangerous and undesirable more often than not, because - usually - they know enough to get themselves into trouble, yet not enough to get themselves out of it (our laptops are very "tinker friendly," if you will).

I was teasing you in my previous post when I said you can't have everything, by the way. :p

P.S. That's pretty impressive that you know how to do that with a Li-ion battery, by the way!

I agree with you. There's a lot of software testing and hardware testing before they release the product. For sure. Lots and lots of test :) plus it's great they have a test documentation to back it up.

Yeah, for sure. There are people who know enough to be dangerous... but hopefully, the pain they inflict on themselves, will teach them to have a bit more understanding and appreciation with what they are doing.. besides, if we don't make mistakes, how else we learn. Even the experts make silly mistakes. Like forgetting to put a ";" at the end of a code or even failing to add comments in their code.

p.s. thanks. I was being a cheap skate, plus I was bored. Was able to squeeze out 2hr more juice though than my previous laptop battery.

I agree with the Apple vs PC debate.

I've had a few Apples, then went PC once I got into the hardware side and started to build my own.

I guess being around brothers and a dad who likes to fix stuff.. I always felt like, why throw away stuff if you can fix it? We live in such a disposable society. I mean, obviously, you have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages like whether it would be cheaper to buy it in the end and your time and effort... etc.. but if u can fix it and learn from it, why not?

Sounds like you need (insert fanfare here...) Puppy Linux! A Linux designed to bring modern functionality to old computers. It runs completely from the disk. If you want to save changes to anything it can make a file on your hard drive, but it won't mess up whatever is installed on the hard drive. It will happily run on modern computers but the main goal is to keep you from having to throw away perfectly good older computers.

Like for example, my other Asus laptop's battery was stuffed. So I took it apart and got Lithium-ion battery with the right, voltage, current etc.. solder it together and put it back together.. and I got myself a new power supply.. I certainly can't do that with an apple computer :(
You can solder??!

(I can solder too, but only LEDs on RC helicopters)

Nothing new, They been spying since Windows 2000. Just that they managed to make it default with this new windows 10. You think they are bothered that we know they are spying? But I can see the more they carry on with this surveillance and spying and privacy snooping, I can see many people coming off the internet. then the ISP's will start to complain they losing money. But then again people don't realize it, that they are paying these people to spying on you.

The fun of the internet has gone out the window. And with all the internet snooping, privacy snooping, surveillance and spying, and viruses, and security breaches, they are putting people off using the internet. Even smart TV's are recording your voices when you don't realize, Google tracking, Webcam spying, it all adds to paranoia and will put more and more people off using the internet altogether.
