A person's position in an online community does not always reflect who they are in real life.

As with all things, we need discernment.

I had a friend on CC , who was among my first who got banned for what I thought was an absolutely stupid and ridiculous reason (not even theological).
I thought it was more petty than constructive...but anyway the point is not to discuss bans.

I am very grateful to God for our continuing friendship despite not being on CC. This person is one of my best friends - absolutely delightful and one of my biggest supporters.

Definitely he is one of the smartest and most knowledgeable people I have ever met on the internet and I am so glad I have that privilege of knowing him.

He made CC an amazingly fun, humorous and enjoyable place and ever since he left, CC has never managed to catch up to that intellectual speed.

I love him! He recently even became a channel for me to support someone else in a place where I could never have done before.

But yeah he's real :)

That's what matters (and he's a solid Christian) yay!
Glad to hear that! The internet truly is a great tool for interfacing with so many kinds out there in the world (discernment is necessary, nonetheless). I've a solid connection with a really bright individual that was also banned, and our friendship has been incredibly valuable. Hopefully you two will continue to remain a source of love, encouragement, and intellectual reinforcement for one another!

For months I have been researching our family's history so I can prepare an official family tree document to each of my kids as a Christmas present. Today I found the earliest ancestor yet, my great-great-great-great (etc) grandfather Johannes Roeckel born circa 1573, but have not found birth location yet....... or wife's name..... still researching and getting cross-eyed & confounded with all these details, (Irish Palatines, Protestant Christian heritage, Scottish heritage under Clan Maxwell). The earliest trace of American heritage was my great-great-great-something or other grandfather who settled in Dauphin County, PA in 1700's. Most of my ancestors had over 10 children, most settled in New York and Pennsylvania. I need to take a break. :p This trail keeps going and going.........

Well, heh. No... real vanilla is real vanilla, but these guys are doing a FOUR FOLD vanilla. It's decadent. Some vanilla is water extracted and some is alcohol extracted... concentrations... yada, yada

I don't mind sharing because they only sell in bulk, so I'm buying 4 gallons of the stuff at a time... which works for me because that'll be like 5 months of vanilla. The brand is La Vencedora out of Portland.

Wow..four fold vanilla sounds decadent but have no idea what that is lol. Now I am curious !! Does vanilla expire? If I bought four gallons that would take forever to use up.

**CWS makes mental note...must figure way to bribe Olerica to share vanilla...hmmmm lots to ponder***

It doesn't expire. I don't share, because BUSINESS, baby. :)

Four-fold vanilla means they've used four times the vanilla beans to what is typically used.

Aw, sorry about that. I have wild, freaky dreams but they're usually okay. :( Maybe it was something you watched on TV before bed? Or something you ate?

Completely understand but appreciate the knowledge transfer..will look into four fold vanilla. I read the secret to cookies is to triple the amount of vanilla called for and let batch sit overnight in fridge to meld flavors. It seems to have an impact according to family and friends.

thanks!

oh, the kind of sugar you use, the kind of salt... lots of things affect flavor. It's one of many things that I love about my job.. understanding the chemistry that goes into what I do.

As an example, for one of my flavors there is a very specific kind of plum I use. Why? Because the texture and the flavor concentration is superior. This flavor is only available for a very limited time and then it's gone. Same is true for a lot of them, so I freeze some fruits, but not all. Seasonality is good.

ANYWAY. I could talk food forever and bore you all... and boredom isn't fun.

Your passion is awesome and listening to anyone passionate about something is never boring. IMO.

I love to bake/cook but I of course do not do it for a living but my interest basically means I could listen for hours!! With pen and paper to take notes of course!

I second this.

I pay attention when the people here who are good cooks post about techniques or products. I love it when people talk passionately about their work or interests in general.

And I really could listen to them for hours as well, because I'm learning a lot, too.
