I was hoping the true etymological application wouldn't be inferred by anyone, but so sorry if it offends otherwise.
I'm surprised that anyone would find the word 'bugger' to be offensive. It's all good.

What does it mean to be considered offensive?? Or the word itself is offensive, like the b word for americans??? Or is the b word offensive for all english speaking folk?

To be offensive is to cause offense. To be offensive is to insult, be hurtful, disrespectful, abusive.

it's not an offensive word (I think), it's just the word for something one normally doesn't talk about, let's say at the dinner table,

Two more weeks in the apartment. One month until I return "home". Transition stress is making me crazy and exhausted and possibly very unpleasant for other people to have to deal with. It's also what I'm going to blame for ruining my low carb diet. You have been warned internet world.

The like was for coming home, as you've talked about looking forward to it for a while now. Praying about the stress, exhaustion and unpleasantness. Go carbs!

Not bad for a amatuer. It's really crude and simple.

Although, I may have too much time on my hands.

Oh well.

Returning "home"? If home isn't home, where is home? Are you not sure you still have one? Or is where you are more home than where you will be?

When you live on the other side of the world for 3 years, you can't really expect home to feel like home when you get back there unless you want to set yourself up for serious disappointment. And the home you left has changed and so the home you want to return to no longer exists. Hard to explain if you haven't been through it or something similar. So I have the awesomest parents in the world who will make sure that I have a roof over my head and food in my stomach when I get back, but I still feel very disconnected and homeless in some ways.

And if anyone is even thinking about it, this would be a very bad time to criticize my feelings and tell me I shouldn't be feeling what I'm feeling.

Searching, this is so (or sew :)) awesome!!! I really enjoy seeing what others do for their hobbies and it's especially nice to see someone else who likes to work with needle and thread. I have been wanting to start a Project Thread in which people share pics of what they're working on, but just haven't gotten around to it...

Many kudos to you, sir!

I know what offensive is, Tintin... :) I meant the word bugger... cause it always seemed to me that it was a funny word that you would say it to express dissatisfaction... I always considered it like "meleca" in Portuguese... and I use it all the time... :)

Cinder,

I haven't lived on the other side of the world but I can very much relate to what you're saying. My parents have moved a lot, though I was fortunate in that I didn't have to change schools (though my siblings chose to.) But I do know about change and having to fit into different cultures and places, in a small way.

For the past few years, I have been constantly on the move, and in some places, had to completely start over each time. I also had a nearly 6-month period in which I was constantly living in different places, sometimes changing places by the day, week, or month. (You'd think I was running from the law, but honest, I wasn't!)

I also have a sibling who's lived in several different countries and states. One of my struggles is that I don't know what "home" is anymore, which I find to be extremely disconcerting.

For me, "home" isn't about family anymore, because my family members choose to come and go so often and to many different places. "Home" isn't about people, because life changes and the person who is your best friend can have a major life change and is suddenly no longer available. "Home" isn't about a place, because I've been to many different places.

One of my most troubled prayers for years has been, "God, I want to go 'home'", but I have no idea what that is or what it looks or feels like anymore.

I know the "good, christian answer" is that "home" should be just myself and God, but it can feel like a very isolated place to be.

Please feel free to PM me anytime, whether now or when you get back, if you need to talk. *hugs*

And you're moving again fairly soon, right? (Not far away from where you are now, if I remember correctly, but it's yet another transition.)

I was away for far shorter a period of time (7 months) in Europe and when I came back to the states I was so discombobulated. I hope it is an easy transition back to American life.... but malls made me nauseous for about a year...

You have my empathy.
