I just wanted to know what others' opinions of the park were. I don't really know how to feel about it myself. I don't know why you would assume I have decided my opinion already. If you read my questions carefully I'm on the fence.

I grew up going there but now I feel I should consider otherwise. That's why I want to know how Christians feel about it.

And yes, that's what Blackfish is.
SeaWorld is wonderful. The accusations made against them are false. The whales they train and study and take care of live just as long as whales that are swimming in the ocean. Lots of false accusations.

Remember, SeaWorld is nonprofit. They do a lot of good work.

These liberal activist groups have a swarm of lobbyist in Sacramento and in D.C. They'll protect a tree, a rat, a turtle, a whale and yet threaten the lives of people.

It definitely is difficult to think about and come to a conclusion. I guess we need to take it one step at a time. Like I said, I grew up going to SeaWorld and after watching that documentary I felt very bad about it. On the other hand, I've heard that SeaWorld is now working on improving conditions for the animals after much criticism. So I guess I will have to see. I haven't been in four years. The reason I was thinking about it was because my mom wants to go for my birthday next month because I grew up loving the theme park.

That's such an amazing experience that you had with the crocodile! I bet you were excited to see it that close to you. I recently went to the zoo and saw the giraffes pretty close. I was thrilled! But like you say, are they happy? Having trash thrown into their home seems so degrading for such magnificent creatures.

Also, I do feel convicted not to go to anything haunted. I get scared easily and have a hard time sleeping even with a Goosebumps episode! LOL

Thanks for your reply! I really just wanted to see what everyone else thought about these topics. ;)
Okay, you've heard the accusations. You know the accusers side. We all have a right to defend ourselves against accusations. Now go read what the accused says about those accusations. Just go to SeaWorld's website.

Though I can often be sarcastic, this was one of those times when I was merely confused. The way you phrased your questions, they looked rhetorical. You know, more statements than questions. For example: "Don't you think those questions (and this one) looked more like statements?" It gave me the impression you had already at least somewhat decided what you believed.

Molly,

Something else I wanted to add is that my avatar is a picture of a female Nile crocodile I saw at a place in FL. I posted about this in another thread (and included pictures), but the crocodile actually came up to where I was standing and raised herself up against the cage, nearly face-to-face with me, as if she wanted to get a good look at me, too.
And the girls around here wonder why the guys are nervous.

So what do you all think of SeaWorld two years after Blackfish came out? Are some of the parks better than others when it comes to keeping these large animals healthy and safe?

Also, what do you all think of Howl-O-Scream? Is this just a way to attract a larger audience? Do you think it's inappropriate to have such scary attractions at a family theme park? Is it not a good thing for a Christian person to go to?

I really don't know much about sea life to say that they are in danger at SeaWorld, but I was saddened by Blackfish. And I once went when they had the Howl-O-Scream going on and it was very uncomfortable. They had "zombie people" walking around the park following you.

So please let me know what you all think.
OK, so I actually watched Blackfish just now so I could comment on here. It seems obvious that sea world is not properly caring for these killer whales by keeping them in cramped quarters where the males actually get bullied and bitten by the females, and its the trainers themselves who are speaking out in the movie about the improper treatment of these beautiful animals. The male whale (Tilikum) was most likely frustrated, tired and hungry when he attacked and killed the female trainer since he missed the whistle for him to stop and come back and then she sort of reprimanded him even though he did twice as much as was asked, and then she barely had any fish left to give him.

Since the movie came out, sea world is building a larger complex for the whales to live in, but will it be large enough is anyone's guess. Tillikum is still there too and they can tell that he's not happy because his tank's too small and he's all alone (to protect him from being bitten and bullied by the other whales). I think they should just cordon off a large chuck of ocean and let them live there while continuing to take care of them. Their tank is literally right on the coast. I've been there.

Sea World is great. Their Halloween events are kid friendly. Halloscream is at Universal studios and Busch Gardens. Both do extreme scare and perverted scary. I've been behind the scenes at Sea World (all locations) since I was a kid and they take great care of the animals. Sea World offers education and the ability to see animals you would normally never see, as well as some rides. Sea World Orlando's new Penguin exhibit is Awesome!

No zombies there...go a few exits up to Universal...you will get zombies and more. At sea world it's all blow up happy aquatic theme and give the kids candy and make cookies...etc. Chritmas at Sea World has an awesome live manger and Christian themed shows...the polar express with hot chocolate and cookies. Wowza...I spend a lot of time in Orlando...I should move there.
