Okay, Brazilians, help me out.
My sister-in-law is Brazilian, from Nova Iguacu. I spent 10 days in Rio de Janeiro a few summers ago. Loved Brazil, it's great. Loved the food. Except one thing.
I don't get farina. I don't understand it one bit. I know you guys love it, but I can't make sense of it.
Here's some feijoada. So tasty! But we have to put farina on it, because we put farina on everything! Now it tastes...like feijoada with sand!
Mmmm, picadinho! Hey, don't forget to add farina! Mmmm, picadinho...and sand!
Oh, did your franco or pesce come with rice and kale on the side? Of course it did! And naturally, rice isn't eaten without farina so...now the rice is just kind of gritty.
I'm not trying to be mean; I'm just trying to understand. I honestly feel like farina doesn't actually have a FLAVOR. It doesn't taste of anything. It didn't change the flavor of anything I put it on. It just makes things sandy or gritty. Does it add extra nutrients or something?
I'mma sit here and drink caipirinhas until one of you gets back to me. There's a reason I bought a bottle of cachacha, and now's the time to put it to use.
