It is me! I didn't notice that she was banned. I was away for several weeks.

I did not resurrect the thread; but when I saw it I thought I had some things worth saying.

There are a variety of cessationists. What they agree on are that certain gifts of the Spirit have ceased. But it is funny that sometimes, the way they arrive at this conclusion is through arguments that contradict other cessationist's views. For example, some people think God has no dealings with Israel as His people, and produce a convoluted argument, that Paul doesn't make, that is not consistent with the argument that Paul makes, from Paul's quote of Isaiah in I Corinthians 14.

Certain cessationists argue for the cessation of tongues and prophecies on I Corinthians 13, an interpretation that makes their own knowledge out to be superior to the apostles. But then certain cessationists will say that that is the wrong interpretation.

Only three sign gifts have ceased not all the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I Corinthians 1:7 tells us, 'So that ye come behind in no spiritual gift waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.'

This is before Paul wrote an epistle that focuses quite a bit, no doubt, on the gifts you think have ceased. Why wouldn't he be talking about the very gifts he is going to teach on in the epistle when he mentions gifts at the opening of the epistle? These gifts remain until Jesus comes back, as that verse shows us.


We should desire the gifts that remain not the gifts that are over and done. The gift of tongues was for Israel not for the Gentiles.

The Bible does not agree with your theory. Paul addresses Gentile readers before telling them that the Spirit gave them gifts like speaking in tongues.

I Corinthians 12
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.
...
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
...
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

The real truth is that tongues have ended and seeking them now is against God. The real danger is allowing yourself to be captured by this untruth that you can speak or pray in tongues.

And you are teaching something contradictory to what the Bible says. The Bible says 'forbid not to speak with tongues' and you are teaching that speaking in tongue is against God. You are putting these theories of yours, that contradict the Bible, on a higher level than the Bible.

Not her. She's got the same feisty and the same choice in subject matter, but not the same self-aggrandizing. Also, key difference -- she doesn't meltdown when folks disagree with her.

Not to worry, Marc. Actually enough of us have been saying that LieDetector came along just after Conv left, so she did the reasonable thing. She checked to find out what we're talking about. Which, of course, brought her to threads from Conv that interested her, so she brought them back up.

oh Marc no worries! I had noticed you had not been around in awhile and was thinking you must be on vacation or something and I was glad to see you had come back...mind you, a rest from most forums is good from time to time

I think you know I am not a cessationist...but this thread totally devolved in the end and my opinion on convallaria also changed as she revealed she believed herself to be a prophet and above reproach

things went south from there...well you can do a search if you are interested and you might also try her prophet in pretense friend russel b...he is a lovely chap who curses those who do not agree with him...as a prophet, that is his right of course

its not the thread re-appearing...its the person who we think is actually convallaria using a new name...if it isn't her, she has cloned herself

sorry...please do not think anything negative in regards to yourself here...you are kind of like sandwich spread in between two very old slices not of your making

Seeing that you're a fairly blunt woman, I will speak to you in your own language = As has been pointed out by others here, this is a public forum. The fact you don't like topics regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit, signs & wonders, or cessationism, etc is simply inconsequential.
That's just a nice way of saying: If you don't like 'em then don't read 'em. Your choice. So play nice sis.

I think it means that ember has no problem with my content but she finds some, or many, of the other posts unpalatable.
 
LieDetector, guess by now you've been initiated. Yep, ya gotta be mean and lean, crude tough and rough to hang out in the BDF. Oh, and it helps to be rude, and talk about people as if they don't matter, or invisible or some such....

Just stick to our storyline, you'll be alright. Do you know all the words to "Just as I am?" That helps. :)

Yes, I'd hate to see what some of the peeps here do to new people who walk into their CHURCH! -- I wonder if they'd talk about the new person loudly amongst themselves right in front of them as though they couldn't hear everything.. ha.. Nasty business.

Actually, I like feisty. lol The rest was to clear the air on if you are her, so wasn't really meant to put down or as a compliment. Just telling where there are similarities but there is also a difference.

Same deal. You pick old posts and brought them back after it's been discussed thoroughly. (Did we miss any possible thing related to the topic somewhere in all those pages?) You're free to talk about last year's team all you want, but I doubt those of us who HAVE talked about it a while ago at this length will be joining in for long.

As for "play nice?" Must be a new definition for that one, since I wasn't even playing.
