Ah yes life problems (of the long term career variety)

So I love my job, I love my coworkers, I sometimes love the people who come in to the store-but... Big but right? Sorry I'm gonna get grammatically incorrect here. My father suggested that I need to get a long term job in an area that offers benefits. By like you know...January.... *sigh*

I am 24, I turn 25 and officially out of my family's healthcare plan. So that means I need to either get my own and live with my parents until I can afford it (which may never be), or....quit my current job and try to find another. Or option that may just not be viable is trying to have two jobs....

Who knows, maybe I could get one online that had benefits but it is very doubtful. I just don't know what I should do...

Some major retail chains offer so-so benefits to part timers. Staples is one, and I think (Lord save me from myself with that) Target offers them as well. There aren't a ton of part time openings that offer benefits, though.

You can also purchase individual plans ─ though they're expensive ─ or discount plans.

Just spitballing here.

I feel so guilty right now making this suggestion because this whole Obamacare stuff really wrecked my coverage so badly, but you're young. So, why not? https://www.healthcare.gov/young-adults/coverage/

Truthfully, healthcare when your young is fairly cheap (or was, anyway), because you're not likely to need it, so you're just handing the insurance company money for no particular reason other than you have to now. Not likely to never need it, until you're older, in which case, you're more likely to get a better job so you can afford it.

Doesn't hurt just to check out if you can afford your own plan, right?

Obama care changed the law through age 25. Meaning your 26th birthday you need to get medical insurance. Also if you are full time your employer has to offer benefits.

If you Like your job, ask if there is management opportunities. More benefits with most companies.

Work for a school as a paraprofessional. You get healthcare, and crazy amounts of free time to work on a real career. It's what I'm doing.
