My younger brother took mine while I was away at college, and assumed it was his. (He was nine at the time.) The last either one of us saw any of it was when we were helping Dad move the corner cupboard. Found some on top. So, apparently he played 52 card pick up with Mickey Mantle, Johnny Bench, AND Reggie Jackson.My brother in law (who is 60 years old now) told me that when he was young, he collected baseball cards and remembers opening up packages of cards looking for a Mickey Mantle card and kept opening packages of cards and wondering, "who is this Johnny Bench?" It was his rookie year! My brother in law told me that sometimes there were two or three of his cards in one package! He can't remember what he did with those cards and kicks himself for not holding onto them.

Really? Really? Ahhh nuts! A very expensive game of 52 card pick up. I stopped collecting about the time Reggie became "Mr. October." I started collecting when there was this cute guy named Mickey Mantle. I think it was 1964. (I was really into the bubble gum. lol)

I hope so! My visit to Oahu was something God orchestrated. I was a single mom about 6 years ago and I worked for a company and they had a place there and I asked if I can vacation there and they said yes. Of course it cost me for the trip plus a donation but everything was landing in my lap, room, board, car, gas, tours of places, someone to pick us up and drop us off. They set everything up for me and I basically just had to go. People I worked with were giving me cards with money in them. It was ridiculously amazing. God knew it was a dream of mine because no way was I able to do that on my own then.

That is absolutely... I don't even know what word to use. Epic? Whatever! That's incredible that it all fell into place like that. A friend of mine lives on Maui; I was fortunate to save a ton on not shelling out for a hotel by shacking up with her for a week. It's a magnificent place, and that's reflected a lot in the community; the residents seem genuinely at peace there (and of course the tourists are happy).

That's so cool you got to do that! Are not Hawaiians the nicest people? So so welcoming. Yeah I mean we needed our airfare, some eating out money and money for other things but a donation for all the other stuff they did...yeah...it was EPIC.. haha. I'll never forget.

Seriously though! Are they not? People were saying that the locals don't like tourists, but I didn't encounter any kind of hostility or indifference anywhere. The most common question, even, was: "So where ya from?"
It can be an expensive place to chill at (let alone live at), but I'm glad you had the experience.
Hopefully we didn't derail much. In my defense, I'm just collecting another experience here.

As some of you already know, I collect toys. When I was born in '89, my mom decided to start a Holiday Barbie collection for me. So I have them all from 1989-2014. I need to get the 2015 soon. I have a few other Barbies like 'Class of '08 Barbie' and 'The Secret of the Three Teardrops Barbie.' My favorite one of course is the first one. 1989 Holiday Barbie.
This is what it looks like. I cannot take pictures of my actual Barbie dolls because they are in storage right now.
I have these next two pictures saved of my other toys. I not only collect Holiday Barbies but I have a small collection of plush dolls, action figures and one of my favorites, a Woody doll from the movie Toy Story. I also have some Lisa Frank stuff. I just have way too many toys! I have stopped collecting for the most part but I do continue to get the Holiday Barbie every Christmas because I have them all already! hehe Do I have a problem? Perhaps.
On this first picture my dogs are recreating that E.T. scene.

I used to collect coins, and stamps but grew out of that. More recently, I collected rocks, sea shells, and driftwood, I think because of their natural beauty. But last time I moved I threw out most of my collection. I only kept a few of the best pieces. I remind myself that certain personality types have a compulsion to collect things, and it can become an obsession. In the worst cases, these people become "hoarders", and their lives are wasted collecting and saving stuff.
I do have one collection that I will keep for the rest of my life. It's a collection of Bible verses. I keep a notebook of verses categorized by subject. I look for verses that speak clearly on a certain subject, like humility or the faithfulness of God, for example. When I feel like I need to focus my thinking on a particular subject, I read my collection of verses on that subject. I am always on the lookout for more verses to categorize and include in some subject list. This is one collection that is definitely not a waste of time, and if it becomes an obsession, I think I can live with that.

I have a large collection of the old glass orange juice and grapefruit juicers, some that sit on top of a bowl. Plus some glass measuring cups that have 2 or 3 pour spouts, and some glass knives that were used once for slicing tomatoes so the acid did not stain a metal knife. I think I have 2 of the bowl and ladle sets for mayonnaise, and a couple of glass rolling pins. I haven't added to the collection in years and don't have a place where I can display them, but would love to one day.

I have 3 old glass juicers! Is that a collection>? lol I think they're cool...and old kitchen tools too.
