I was watching a touching video on FaceBook just a couple of days ago and my face leaked. It tends to leak more since my marriage ended; I think some dams were busted open in the wake. Mostly I just tear up if I read something which touches my heart. It happens often around here; I think my compassion and sensitivity are growing.

So yes, I'm a man, and sometimes I cry.

Arrrrghhh! I feel better now. I think I'll go and do something incredibly masculine, like eat chicken right off the bone. Or help a friend with his motorcycles. Or...

Most men are pretty ruthlessly shamed out of crying. It's not that they don't feel sadness, it's just that they train themselves NOT to cry in response to sadness. It's all about "suck it up," "dry it up," "walk it off," etc. A lot of men will translate "sadness" into "aggression," so that when they are greatly disappointed, they hit something instead of crying.

Most men, if they do cry, will do it in secret.

Think about it...men ON THIS VERY SITE...a CHRISTIAN SITE, no less, have implied that if a man is "nice" he is "effeminate." Can you imagine what these same men would say about men who CRY???

It's a crying shame, if you ask me.

The flip side of that is....Most of the time, if your a man. It's your responsibility to pull your pants up and take the lead in a bad situation, thats just how it is. If there is seriously something worth crying about by any standard, like the death of a loved one......you have to suck it up and hold it in so someone else in the family can cry on your shoulder. You have to be strong for them. If everyone else is falling to pieces you have to be the one who has a grip on things.

I say this from the perspective of being one of only a few males in an all female family. A lot of times Im the only male around.

Yeah. I know what you're saying.

I've been though so much over the years that my crying threshold is a lot lower than most guys' is. The thing is, my pain threshold is also a lot higher. I've been though a lot and even though I can be a doubting Thomas, when the going gets tough I'm always going to fall back and seek my Lord in whatever trial I may go through.

What I don't do is cry when things get tough and then sit on the sidelines. My body tells me to do that, but I pretty quickly sit down and start praying and then do what needs to be done.

Shedding a few tears isn't a hit on one's man card provided one doesn't wallow in grief. I don't know why the assumption is always made that crying means a man is weak.

I saw some FEW men that cried, during their weddings or about family matters, but i rarely see men cry because of a heartbreak, and for me men who cries for JESUS, they cry because they can't contain the love they have for the Lord, is beyond Awesomeness!!

I don't cry at just anything, but I'm not afraid to cry and never have been (even when I used to get crap for it from classmates in school). I seem to cry more often these days, especially when I'm wrestling with God or worshipping Him.

Only when a loved one dies
I'd say 'yeah, that's true', only I wouldn't know. I've reached mid-life (roughly) without losing anyone close. My folks are still alive and I hardly knew my grandparents or other relatives. I'll have to take your word for it. :)

Its heartbreaking to see a man cry. I've seen my ex and my dad cries in both different reasons. And believe me whether it is a family, a friend or a partner what u'll want to do when u see them cry is to wipe their tears or comfort them. Its really instense and quite unforgettable sight.
