You've gone off the deep end to deny that Paul was talking about his everyday life in Christ.
Why do you never emphasise the Holy Spirit in this. He is your strength, your power to live a Godly life for he sanctifies you.
Yes, there will be a cross for you, a particular something God wants you to do with your life. How are you going to do it? In your own strength? Will you achieve in and of yourself obedience?
Can you sanctify yourself?
God wants the glory, he cannot have it if you insist it is all about what you do, and not what he does in and through you
Our taking up the cross .... when you look at it in context... This cross could be any hardship that comes our way because of our union with Christ, but the context is specifically speaking of bearing the rejection from family members.

The holy Spirit who is your power to live a Godly life automatically enters your life at conversion. You cannot be a Christian unless the spirit dwells in you Rom8:9

Because you folks are in denial of step 1 (maybe not so much you, but definitely gracexxx): let the spirit put the old man to death. That requires acknowledging that the old man can do bad things if allowed. Which means that we are not righteous, but sinful.
It happens when you depend on Christ and on Him alone...not us....His life becomes manifested in us but it is Him..we choose to walk according to the new man ..spirit and not the flesh

I think it is kind of funny,
people are in another thread slammed a person claiming to be perfect
then you come in here, and they are preaching we must be perfect (by what they they are saying, even though they do nto literally say they are perfect)
sort of like you say one thing, but contradict yourself in another.

Ok...you obviously do not see the old man as dead no matter what scriptures say...nor do you see the new man..nor do you see with our new nature in Christ that He has made us righteous...
I do acknowledge that the old man died in Christ just like the scripture says...

I understand now, should have seen it immediately. Some are relying on their own strength to deny the flesh and win the battle. It is about reliance on them, not the power of the Holy Spirit, through faith in Christ.

I want to take this idea in our hearts and minds we have the law. Jesus called us to be His people, heart, mind and soul, yet the church seems to find it very hard to walk correctly. So I do agree the Lord transforms us within, but we can sear our consciences and become hypocrites, or be humble and learn to walk. It is a complex mixing of all the influences and obedience do we begin to gain an insight. In my experience when you feel someone elses pain, when you laugh when they laugh, cry when they cry you begin to understand empathy.
A strange contradiction, we have the law within us but cannot keep it and stay in rebellion. Not exactly a successful formula. But what you actually want to do is junk scripture. But you cannot except by saying you have a perfect spirit and sinful soul, which again is simply disowning your humanity and denying the purpose of grace, to redeem everything.
You talk as if there is a formula, but as with all relationships it has many layers. Now I can only speak about myself, and I know to walk in the Spirit is to walk in life. Rather than overcomers you suffer from the fear of legalism and wish to banish it from the world when it is your history and shadow and failing. The Lord is the Lord of rules, commands, exhortations, encouragements, rewards, blessings. You want the rewards and blessing without the righteousness, which is the desire for winning a race without partaking in the struggle.
