Hi Willie, Grace,

Regarding repentance, which should be an on-going state of the believers spirit, scripture states the following:

"Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

"Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth."

"Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.

"Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent!"

"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent"

All of those mentioned above are believers within the church who the Lord is advising to repent. Our hearts should always be in a repentant state. We should confess our sins daily. And if we wander away from the truth, then we would necessarily need to repent.
so they had to get resaved again?

I get what you are saying..I think of it like this..I repent constantly as I learn new things about our Lord....we all do...we just don't cry and turn from the sin of "not knowing"..if that makes any sense...lol

I do not repent! And I hope I never will. However, I DO frequently reaffirm my original repentance that occurred some 38 years ago.

The problem is that religious tradition "high-jacked" the original meaning of the word. So...we all need to repent of that!!!..lol

so be perfect?

I know that gets old. But thats Gods requirement. So if turning from sin is required no one will make it.

No,Im not stupid now.I understand Christ died for remission of sins and when you accept Him you are washed clean.Maybe the issue is OSAS,I dont believe that. But the OP wasn't talking about after a person is saved. She is asking how to talk to someone who is unsaved and believe there is nothing wrong with sin.

Yes, but that does not mean repent from sin.

You can't repent from sin before your saved, you have no capacity too.

you can repent from being your own God, Thinking you do not need saved ,or trying to save yourself. But the sin issue, that can;t be dealt with until your born again.

But if a person doesn't know they are lost and in sin...See what Im saying? They have to be told they are in sin.

witness is how you live your life before people regardless of what kind of sin they are doing. When asked question how do you witness to xyz.... I think the better question am I a witness for Jesus Christ or am I one who talks to people about Jesus Christ? Both are to be done; tell them about Jesus and then shown them Jesus by your own life, that is called being a witness.

8 When he (the advocate, or Holy Spirit of God) comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 about sin, because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

I see what you are getting at...it seems that the only people Jesus had to "remind" them of their sin were the religious people who were self-righteous! In that case ...He used the law on them! The law was not made for the righteous but the unrighteous. But ..still this is not the gospel...

All the rest of the people Jesus encountered flocked to Him because they knew they needed Him.

Jesus was the greatest law preacher - to the self-righteous to reveal they needed a Savior

Jesus was the greatest grace teacher - to those that knew He loved them and so they flocked to Him

But if a person doesn't know they are lost and in sin...See what Im saying? They have to be told they are in sin.

Amen!....that's the sin of the world...about sin, because people do not believe in me

The gospel is the good news about Christ!!! Believe and receive!

Ive told this before. My father is an evangelist,my family use to travel sing/preach. One night he started preaching on homosexuality. It seemed odd that out of the blue he steered the service that way.He said it was sin and wrong. After the service a young man came to him that was about to have a sex change and was gay.We came to the alter that night after he realized what he was doing was wrong. The Word was preached,he was convicted and came to the Lord that night. He told my father " I didnt know what I was doing was wrong".

whats a LGBT? a person with a sex change?

LGBT is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (sometimes you'll see other letters Q=Questioning I=Intersex A=Asexual, etc).

Basically it's a short form way of referencing the non-heterosexual communities.

I dont see where we are getting crossed up here. Repent from sin, turn, change course, from sin.
I think people are just trying to show you that "repenting" is neither "feeling sorry" nor "turning from sin." It is changing your mind about upon whom you will depend for your Salvation.

Will you keep depending upon your successful efforts at fending off the temptation to sin.....
OR..... Will you totally depend upon what Jesus did... whether you never sin one more day in your life, or if you still continue to fail time and again, no matter how hard you "try?"

You see, "if "repenting" means to gain so much control over temptation that you never sin again.. (no matter how you gain that control)... then you are saying God also had to gain control over His sinning, and learn to quit doing it............ since God, Himself, "repented" some 28 times in the Bible.

i just asked a question.

You said we need to repent and turn from all sin, which would require perfection (if our repentance was true and sincere)
I asked if we were to be perfect. which is what (according to what you said) it would requir.

The issue is not osas, the issue, is what are we repenting of.

you cant even know what ever sin is before youo get saved, so it would be impossible to repent of all sin.

romans 1 says everyone knows. thus they have no excuse

So why do I have to tell someone, that the bible tells me already knows they yare not only in sin, but judged because of that sin, they are in sin?

That is being judgmental not being honest.

I guess God was wrong.
