Republican have control of 60% of state legislatures. 60% of governors are Republicans. Republicans have majorities in both houses of Congress.
Because of the popularity of Donald Trump, Republican leaders are willing to throw all of those majorities away. They hate his message and will change their rules to keep him from being nominated. But they need his supporters. Somehow they have to convince his supporters that they are deluded and they are better off voting for Cruz or Rubio. Wait, Cruz is disliked by both Democrats and fellow Republicans in the Senate. None of them want to work with him. So after Republican party leaders sabotage Donald Trumps campaign, they will need to sabotage the Cruz campaign.
My point would be it does not matter who gets nominated. You could pick the most minority friendly Republican in the field and they will still lose to Hillary because they will not get enough Hispanic votes. They could promise automatic citizenship or free college and they would still lose because Hispanics will vote for Hillary. About 80% will. Sadly, the day after next years election, there will be a series of threads started here that will proclaim that Trump cost Republicans the White House. Nope. Not one of the Republican candidates can win over Hispanic voters. They are the swing voters in all the swing states as well as a number of other states that were previously strongholds for Republicans. Watch how close the vote is in places like Texas and Arizona.

The Hispanic issue is way overplayed by the establishment of both parties .... if the vote was held today all the Republicans including trump beats Hillary ...There polls include Hispanics and have always been proven to favor liberals in any error they contain. The idea that we have to nominate so called middle of the road conservative is just a lie...and McCain and Romney prove what happens when they do that...these guys could not even beat Obama!
Real Clear Politics has head to head polls showing Rubio to be the strongest candidate against Hillary. Rubio is a strong candidate. Hillary fears him the most.
I read where there are over 3 million newly registered Hispanic voters in Texas since Obama took office. Democrats will likely receive 75%+ of their votes. That is the demographics of next years election. Not just in Texas, but in over a dozen states that Republicans would have to win. Maybe, they should concentrate on not losing majorities in Congress.
The problem the Republican party will have if it nominates Rubio, would be that Trump won't accept being snubbed and will run as an independent and take voted from Rubio. I don't think anyone is showing polling results for a three-way election. We can all guess the results.

At a time when the Republicans SHOULD sweep the 2016 General Elections, and keep their majority on BOTH the House and the Senate, AND WIN the Presidency, they are on the cusp of losing the Senate, and the Presidency, and ONCE AGAIN being relegated to a Party of no worth.
The "civil war" going on in the Republican Party (as is evidenced even here on CC) will assure that the American Socialist Party will gain even more power/influence in 2016.
IF they DO NOT get it together, the Republican Party (by 2020) will be a permanent "Minority Party" with no hope of ever gaining control of Congress or the White House for years/decades to come.
They have ONLY THEMSELVES to blame.
