I went to visit my grandkids, and have spent the last hour trying to get through this thread.
First, we do NOT want your misfits, rebels and rabble rousers here in Canada. We only accept true refugees, and besides which, they have to be Muslim, so no one here qualifies. (Just ask Justin!)
Second, I really like GIS's defense of the monarchy, esp. from a Biblical perspective. Of course, I may be somewhat prejudiced, since I was raised singing "God save the Queen" and I hated it when Trudeau repatriated the constitution so the Queen was only a figure head. (Trudeau the father, Pierre Elliot, not the Trudeau the son, Justin!)
Of course, it is much easier to be a monarchist, when the Queen lives across the Atlantic Ocean. And by the way, Canada was in WWII in 1939, well before the Americans. Well, we didn't have a say in those days, since we were a colony of the British Empire. OK, not quite, but close enough for our purposes.
I am recently converted to hard core conservative, after Justin, bless his little bar bouncer, ski board instructor heart, used BO trick of "Time for a Change," as his slogan, and deceived the incredibly stupid younger generation to vote for him, despite being singularly unqualified to be the Prime Minister. Being the son of a Prime Minister, as you well know from George W Jr is simply not a reason to vote for someone.
My semi-socialism which I cling to, is our national health care system. Where everyone receives treatment at no cost, at any hospital or doctor in any province you choose. I am a BIG drain on health care, and I am just so grateful to live under this system, and get cheap access to my very expensive drugs, and have about 5 doctors on speed dial. And yes, I realize it may not work in the US, as your country is not only bigger, but the doctors and HMO's are much greedier than ours!
I am looking to seeing a few more posts defending various viewpoints. However, I will say that Sydlit is really skirting the edge of civility, and not contributing at all to the conservative side of the debate. I do remember something of this kind of slogan being a popular, but basically useless rebuttal to the left during the Vietnam War - America, Love it or Leave it.
No wonder I became a totally left wing socialist for so many years with rhetoric that sucked like that!
And I would give it all away to have a slightly dishonest, Christian prime minister like Stephen Harper back in government!
(Respect your elders, and remember that I know more about America, than any of you could possibly know about Canada, by way of having lived there for 2 years, having 9 cousins, 2 aunts and 2 uncles who were American, to say nothing of being bombarded with American media my whole life, but especially now, on social media. I actually unfollowed a good portion of my extreme right and left wing American friends I got so sick of the attacks - much worse than CC, for sure!)
