Hi folks,

I wondered if anyone had ideas for a personal (not church)
24 hour fast.

What's the best way to go about it etc.

Thanks

A personal fast doesn't always have to do with food, a personal fast that I do is instead of spending time watching t.v. or playing my pokemon games or something I spend that time with God and I know what i'm talking about when i say that fasting brings you closer to God

Then, quite obviously, one of our firsts would be to turn off the computer.

Well being on cc is one of the ways I am able to connect to God, learning about him talking about him helping and conversing with fellow believers this all helps me become closer to him.

However for some it may be important to turn off the computer

Honestly, I don't understand the OP...........'specially this part:

I assumed she meant either fasting how the church believes fasting is(food wise) or fasting from church

I mentioned this because we sometime have organised prayer and fasting
half days at the church.

But this would be something done of my own volition at home.

Don't eat.

Rofl!!!!!!!! :o

Sorry, Miri.. :(

Yeah, I know, funny people :)

I feel like fasting is more than just not eating, it's about putting
aside every day distractions/chores etc.

Its something I feel I want to do and need to do. This year has
been an uphill struggle just one massive problem following
another and in amongst it all, it has been easy to lose perspective
on the things that matter and God.

good for you, Miri..

fasting is a wonderful way to express yourself - and to discover things that you might not
think of or about under other circumstances..

it take a certain desire and a certain discipline to fast - just don't over-do it and get dehydrated...
something good will always come about after fasting...

we have done different kinds of fasts for years and have greatly benefited from them...

Do you have any good tips, or suggestions on how to organise the time etc.

Miri,

this scripture comes to mind, 'First seek you the Kingdom of God and His righteousness'...

we have to first of all take care of our own house-hold and set it in order as best as possible,
and this will free us to use what ever is at hand to achieve the nearness to our Father that we
so need, and if our hearts are in the right place, we will receive a revealing from Him....

it is very important to let those who are around you know what you are doing,
and this will give you the freedom to draw near to God for whatever your Spiritual needs may be....

we pray that our Father give you peace and that He opens the door of the scripture -
'For I have learned to be content in whatever situation.....

hubby and I are constantly working on this last point, for it strengthens our Faith and lets us
understand fully that our Father is always near and in control.....

Fasting is something the Jews did but it was also commanded that they fast, but I wonder how many of them actually fasted not because it was part of their way of life but to be closer to God?

I have heard of alternate fasts if one can't, like myself, fast completely for medical reasons. Certain food fasts (Caffiene, chocolate XD), one meal fasts, time fasts, fasts from electronic devices (internet, iphone, videogames, ect.) Or have even heard of some people doing a, working a certain amount of time at like a food bank or specifically in church for something.

I guess there is always a plan B XD

Hi, wanted to say that since I got the thought of fasting and started this thread,
I've been shown so many different things which would be good to do on the
day and which I believe God wants me to do.

Its not actually about not eating, it's wanting to seek God without distractions etc.

I suppose I should have asked God first!

So I've got the day in my mind etc.

Just wanted to encourage anyone else who has not tried this before who might be
thinking of trying it at some point. I think if you do it for the right motives, then
God will pave the way for you to do this.

Strange but I feel excited now and full of expectation and I think God is
as well :)

Miri,

you are just to sweet for words...

oh yes, we also believe that our Heavenly Father is excited because He so shares and knows
our emotions, after all, we are patterned after Him!!!

we are rejoicing with you in your conviction!
:)

Ok, thanks for the explanation............ :)

I actually believe fasting should be a personal experience and not an organized event.........but that is just me.......I don't require others to follow my beliefs.

PR,

I think it would be wonderful to have a group come together for the glory of God,
if the expression is truly heart-felt with love at the core....
whether it be fasting, praying, singing, or just plain ole praising...
:):)

We actually have a lot of prayer days at the church from
10am to 10pm. People can drop by at any point. Rooms are
set up with specific activities or prayer request.

For example there will be a worship room where people can just
join in with singing and playing or listening to psalms etc.
Or maybe a TV showing videos.

There is usually a creative room where people can draw, write
down their thoughts, compose poems etc.

Then there is usually a room for praying for the city and it has
different themes spread around the room.

Plus other rooms with different ideas and different things to pray into.

A couple of time a year the church has half nights of prayer and fasting.

There has been a lot of those due to an ongoing project fof building a
new church.
