addiction being broken, and never being tempted by that addiction is not the same
agan, your making a mountain out of a molehill. your making an argument where there is no argument to make.
Read the letter to me and explain how it would have been illegal for me to long for something that didn't belong to someone else. Or to long for a neighbor's marriageable daughter.
Let's be sane here for a moment. You are not coveting when you desire something like that, but you must take care not to sin against people in your strong desire.

Paul said he would not have known covet (lusting another persons things, or the person themselves) unless the law said do nto covet (listing a persons things, or the person themselves) (vs 7 11)
and that in his flesh, he can not find the power to do what is good. (vs 14-23)
That applies to all of us, even today. Are you saying that in your flesh you can know how to do god apart From Gods power? That's not what romans 8 says now is it.
In today's culture, that would cover a fellow's bike, motorcycle, camper, car or truck!

Paul never said he had an addiction in romans 7, Why are you adding to what Paul never said?
He said he had a thought of coveting, and when he had this thought, the law was aroused and he was seen as committing sin.
He then said when he tried by his flesh to stop what was happening to him at that time, He found he could not stop it (the covetous thought or act) neither could the law help him to stop that act or thought, in fact, by trying to stop by the law. it just made him want to do it more (because it was all he thought of which is what the law does)
then he showed how to overcome that act, By walking in step with the spirit, or setting his mind on the spirit. When he does that, The thought of coveting does not even come to his mind, it disappears. And he has victory over that sin
Paul said he could not do the good he wanted to do but rather the evil he did not want to do, Tha which he hated he did.
Now put Tha together with the mark of a christian being a person where addiction to a life of sin has been broken

I believe you missed the point of my comment. EG said coveting meant sexual desire. I said, eh coveting a neighbor's donkey? And then you posted the command that had ass instead of donkey. I won't go any farther.
Did Paul write Romans 7 when he was a pharisee? He said 'I am carnal sold under sin'.

And paul was wrong? He spoke of what would happen if he tried to be good by his own power the flesh?
He did not say he was addicted to anything, He used coveting as an example. the text does not even literally say he had an issue with coveting, It just said, When he wanted to do something of his own will, he did not find the power to do it. When he wanted to not do something of his own power . he could not stop it.
You have not figured out in your Christian life this is a fact of life for all Christians? Your scaring me if you have not figured this out yet.

Paul never said he was addicted to anything, he was explaining the facts of a Christian life of trying to do good by your flesh, or not do evil by your flesh, and how utterly impossible it is to do those things (flesh including the law)
And this made him a wretched soul, who would be forced to rely on Christ.
nothing more nothing less.
I did, I am not the one adding the words, like addiction, to what he said, when he never made such a statement, you are the one doing that.

His flesh is, all of our fleshes are. Our flesh can only serve self.
that's why we have to rely on the sprit, and not the law or our flesh.
