This afternoon my perfect little boy ate all the licorice after I told him not too. It's funny how our childrens disobedience parallels Adam and Eves in the garden... in that it creates separation. I decided to seize the moment as it was definitely a teachable moment. We want our children to fail when they are under our roof and the consequences are small. I sent him to his room and told him that I would come get him in a bit... and that I wanted him to think about some consequences. When he was in his room I decided to use it as an illustration of how sin/disobedience creates separation.
So here is what I did. I explained to him how Adam and Eve's disobedience in the garden separated them from God and it caused them to be naked and alone when God threw them out of the garden because of their disobedience..... I let that sink in.
Then I explained to him that it was my job as his dad to tech him the importance of obedience to his earthly father as practice for obedience to his heavenly father...and I let that sink in.
Then I explained to him the cross and grace and what Jesus did to reconnect us with God. I then told him no more playstation for the night and I instructed him to write me a page of his perspective of what I just explained to him...here is what he wrote:
This is all him and he nailed it I think. We are gonna put his little essay inside the empty licorice wrapping as a reminder of the importance of obedience.
