"In our weakness, He is strong."

A thought crossed my mind today and I was wondering what you'll think. I have my own views but hearing other people's perspectives is always a good thing, and an opportunity to grow. So here's a question.

Which requires more strength? Resisting temptation or coming back to God after giving in to temptation?

Poll incoming.

It isn't our strength we need to be concerned about, there is a good reason we are so weak because the point is to lean on and rely on him 100% And real strength isn't about being to resist or endure or even to overcome to understand what real strength is what it means to be strong what it means to be a believer a child of God a christian one must begin by looking at Jesus.

Notice how he was such a servant to us him the king of kings God all mighty lowered himself to serve us not even considering anything for himself see how caring how kind how forgiving he was to even the most filthiest of sinners see how he showed love those who beat him and attacked him spit upon him mocked him him see how far he was willing to go just to save us. He would gone through all of that a thousand times over even for just one person, the reason he was able to be so strong wasn't because he was God but because of the kind of love that overflowed in his heart

Then, we can change the question to "Which requires more grace?" :)

Resisting temptation or coming back to God after giving in to temptation?

in my opinion they both require the same amount because we need his deep and rich grace in abundance period his grace cannot be measured it is everlasting it's depths cannot be fathomed and whether we are resisting temptation or coming back to him we still require all his grace either way

I chose coming back to God after giving in to the temptation because in my experience it's our pride that keeps us from receiving all that God has to offer and admitting that I was wrong once that mistake has been made.

For me, it takes more strength to resist temptation. Because I never feel that I have left him when I blow it. Or feel that he has left me.

It's a difficult question as there are so many angles to this.

The bible talks about sins of omission as well, the things we should
do but don't. Then it also says that even our thoughts can be wrong,
probably we do far more wrong with our mind than we do with our body.

The big things like stealing, cheating etc are obvious it's the things
that are less obvious which are the bigger problem. Do you ever get that
"oh ho" moment when you realise you have messed up. That awful
feeling in the pit of your stomach.

I think the bigger issue is that we need strength not to be conformed to
this world, but to be transformed in our thinking.

It is so easy to get caught up with the world's way of thinking, again
sometimes in ways which are obvious but also less obvious. Ways like
stressing out at work, worrying about finances when Jesus told
us not to worry, having no faith and trying to do things our way
because that is what the world does. Buying into the worlds way
of living when the Lord said "come and buy without money" what
He has to offer.

Not heard this anywhere else ...but was praying last night and the Lord spoke to me about this being a year of His people walking in His Strength .... Maybe your thread is a witness to that :)

Holy Spirit has been teaching me the past year about living from His strength. Perhaps this year I will learn to walk in it more and more!

My Thoughts :D ...or two cents worth.

"Coming back to God after giving in to temptation"
Even though this can be a hard thing, if you're really and truly coming back to God after giving in, then it's because you want too. You have a desire to. You've already gave into temptation, enjoyed it while it lasted, and now you're wanting to turn away from that and turn to God.

"Resisting Temptation"
I think of Romans 7:15, "For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." There's a struggle inside us that wants to give in.
However, James 1:2 tells us that "the testing of your faith produces perseverance." Plus, from personal experience, I know that resisting temptation vs turning to God after giving in, are the moments I spend more time asking God for His strength to help me through this one.

So, I voted for Resisting Temptation. :D

I am not strong in any way on my own I am weak in every sense even among other humans I am weak in both flesh nature and mentality I am timid by nature I am not nor can I ever be physically strong and mentally I am weak as well. Because i am so weak I have to rely on him 110% any kind of strength is given to me it never originated from me. However because of his strength I can go all out without the fear of breaking I can do all things even what many believers would think is impossible I can go to extreme and unfathomable lengths and distances and I will; stumble I will fall and I have a long ways to go before i can be considered strong in my own eyes but knowing how weak I am my resolve is not.

If I am strong in any way it is my resolve I don't care how weak I am or what I lack it doesn't matter how long the journey how great the costs and suffering that will come with it the very same fire and resolve that I saw in Jesus eyes when I first read revelations the reason why they burned so intensely and so strongly the absolute love and protection for his children that overwhelmed me the firm will and deep desire for God that impacted me simply by reading is the very same fire that burns inside me.

There is no limit I will not go for the sake of even one lost child no matter how cruel how evil how dark their hearts are if Jesus was willing to go so far for such a person then so will I even if I have to burn in the very fires of hell for a time for their sake, and when I say this it isn't vain words and empty oath it is absolute. Being a christian to me is not simply being saved or having strong faith nor is it about me being holy and free from any kind darkness inside me the reason behind those eyes of his that I saw is the kind of love he has for them how far he is willing to go for even the most blood stained soul the fire that blazes in his heart for father and for all others.

I do not mean to be boasting and none of this is about me not this life not the next not the reason I fight not anything but for one as weak as me to say that he would go to such lengths with absoluteness as if these words were written in stone to know in their deepest hearts without even a single doubt that what they just said is absolute and will without any hesitation will gladly prove their words is not testimony of their own strength but the strength and absolute fire and love and will of God within them

Resisting temptation for me requires more strength having recently come back to God. This strength is not of me though; it is definitely God. Was entertaining a thought today and told myself "no, that would not be pleasing to God". His strength and grace gave me victory today over that temptation. It is a daily process for me with certain things, but God knows my heart when I say that He has given me victory over the vast majority of the stumbling blocks in my life that were not pleasing to Him and were keeping me from having a relationship with Him. I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me...I just have to be willing.

OH! 1 more thought! :D

If you're coming back to God after giving in to temptation, that means that you failed at resisting temptation. :)

-I would have edited my original post, but I didn't see an "edit" button. :)

Resisting is definitely more difficult, because once I realize what I gave in to I'm pretty much thrown by the Spirit to my knees in repentance.

if our love for Christ is real, then we will see ourselves growing in the Spiritual strength
He blesses us with...and we will become strong-over-comers of the trials and tribulations that beset us....

Maybe it depends on the severity of what we're going through?

Whenever I feel temptation is strong I always go back to what God teaches about obedience and doing His will and I almost always I feel God's peace and power to resist temptation. We should obey Him in view of His unfailing mercy, grace, and love and offer our body as a living sacrifice.

Psalms 51:17

My sacrifice oh God is a broken spirit.

Phil 4:6-7

The peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
