Re: Simple enough, even for you...

i would think he is referring to Jesus. Jesus instructed we can ask the Father in His name (Jesus) and it will be given.

i dont see here that peter is teaching anyone to understand the Father or Son in triune natures or that salvation can only be obtained by seeing/understanding triune nature. but this is only what i see (or dont see) and i am not an authority on this.

If you know scripture, then you also know that The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit have the same one Name.

Thus...this verse, and others like it, show that those that worship The Trinity are saved.

So simple.

So elegant.

God declares in Mat 28.19 that the Father, The Son & The Holy Spirit have the same one singular Name.

The salvation passages of scripture always refer to The Trinity.

John 3.18

The one believing into Him is not Judged; but the one not believing has already been judged, for he has not believed into the name of the only begotten Son of God.

If you believe upon the Triune NAME of the one God, then you will NOT be judged.

The word Bible is also not in the Bible
I wouldn't go so far to say that the term isn't in the Bible. It would be far more accurate to say that the term is never used in Scripture to refer to what we would commonly call today, "the Holy Bible."

Christ and His apostles often times referred to the writings of the Old Testament as theγραφή (“Scripture”), and γράμμα (“writings”),
“and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings (γράμμα) which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

“And again another Scripture (γραφή) says, ‘THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.’"

It wasn’t until the 3rd century that “Ta Biblia” (“The Books”) emerged to exclusively describe the Christian collection of Scriptures. And though this point is only miniscule, it only proves the initial point: Just because a word isn’t present in the text and used to describe the nature and characteristics of God, it doesn’t disqualify it from being true, because by the same token the very title that we commonly use to describe the Scriptures is in no place throughout the Scriptures attributed to the Scriptures.

Lastly, some ask, why is the word "Trinity" itself not in Scripture? The reason: There was no need for it. It was innovative heresies like Arianism, Monarchianism, and even Sabellianism that later arose which freed Christians to name and explain their beliefs. Importantly, they didn't seek to invent anything new, but only to more precisely define what they already believed. As a very simplified example, if all you ever knew were apples that were green, you would simply call them "apples"; however, is someone brought you a red apple for the first time, you would now find the need to differentiate between the two -- calling one a green apple, and the other a red apple. Your apples have always been green, but now you find it necessary to point out that they are such in order to distinguish them from red apples.

With that in mind, what was one of the earliest heresies of the early Church? But of course, it was Sabellianism.

Trinity is just a word to describe whats in the bible. I didnt actually read the opener of this thread : p But Ive been hearing this argument alot lately, and how it disproves the bible : p Its just a word thats made up to describe the nature of God : p It doesnt have to literally be a word in the bible in order for us to use it, the parts are all there in the bible, it just makes it easier to explain : p

you keep trying to make this about 1 Lord or triune worship. i want to see the triune requirements for salvation.
I would suggest that if all one needs to do is believe that Jesus is, in some round-a-bout sense, the "Son of God" with disregard of the remainder of things the NT has to say about Him then the authors of the NT wasted their time combating many myths/untruths about Jesus. What would have been the point for Paul, or any other to write entire letters which entail so much detail about the person and being of Jesus Christ, if all that one needs to believe is that He is the "Son of God"? One must believe that Jesus is the Son of God to the very extent that the Apostles also believed and whom they discuss in so much detail throughout the NT, or else your view of Jesus as the "Son of God" is distorted.

As a Trinitarian, I understand that no one but God contributes to the work of salvation: the Father elects, the Son atones, and the Holy Spirit regenerates -- united in their work for the salvation of those who believe.

im not sure what your trying to say, you seem to be all over the place. all that i could make out is u implying i have a distorted view of Jesus.
my view of Jesus is what the bible says about Jesus with my main focus on the words of Jesus Himself. this is where i put my faith. i dont put my faith in doctrines. doctrines over time will lead you away from the teachings of the bible, Jesus even taught this, He also warned us about putting our focus in doctrines.

You miss the larger picture. Would you agree that one must believe in the same Jesus that the apostles believed in to be saved?

i prefer what Jesus says about Himself but to answer your question, yes. but that is not what we are talking about here. i put my faith in what the bible reveals to me, i put that above what others tell me to think just because they say its official doctrine, or tell me i should believe something only because everyone else believes it. does this make sense.

i think todays church is very far from the church Jesus and the 12 set up. and if that is true, how did we get here?

What did Jesus, Himself, say is most important?
He had many teachings. love the Lord and love your fellow man He said were most important. He said everything hangs on those 2.

Hi jaybird. I'm interested in knowing where Jesus warned against doctrines all-encompassing. There is good doctrine and there is bad doctrine, that much I will admit. The only doctrines I see scripture condemning are doctrines of demons, false doctrines, and legalistic religious doctrines. We can form beliefs from scripture and not call it doctrine, but that doesn't make it any less doctrine.

Jesus is teaching against doctrines of men there for sure. Legalism and made up laws and commands specifically. But good doctrine is important.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

Titus 2:1
But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

Titus 1:9
He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

i agree its important. i think in the time of Jesus, many Jews were blindly following the law, its good to obey the law, but if you follow it and you are completely clueless as to why you follow it, thats not so good.

IMO Judaism at that time and Christianity now are very similar, we follow without asking why we follow or we follow because we see everyone else doing it.

1 Timothy 6:3-5. good scripture, i think many today can learn from this.
