Should I be Upset or am I being Petty..

We are having a family meeting tomorrow where all my siblings are suppose to be attending. Except for one my siblings who is out of the area. The meeting entails concerns about my father(who is in his late years) church, family vacations etc. Well, I have to work and I am unable to get off on the schedule day. I mention to my sibling that I do not get off until 5:00 and can't make it to the location until 6:00/30. The meeting was scheduled for 4:30 which is suppose to last for 2 hours.

I do not even feel like going

Lesa... In my opinion, I would say please don't get upset over this. If you miss half of this meeting, I would hope that your siblings can bring you "up to speed" on what you missed. If there are crucial decisions to be made regarding your dads care at this meeting, I pray that the family unity will come into play. Unity is so important, as this is what brings strong & healthy communication. So I pray that the Lord will help maintain the unity with you & all your siblings during this meeting & the days following....

Ask them to reschedule. Remember to spend as much time with your dad as possible since you never know when that day will come.

Have you asked anyone why it was scheduled for that time?
Really it's difficult to give any answer, or for you to even know how to feel, until you ask and find why they picked that time. You may feel as if you were slighted, but there could be a valid reason that time was picked.
Usually it's better to go to the source and get facts, than to go to strangers and get their guesses.

Thanks tannerbrody. Already placed in stone. Yes, very true you never know when that day will come. Love spending time with him bc that's the only parent we have left

How about neither? So you can't make it to a family meeting? You're not the only one. I come from a family with six kids. Twice in the last 35 years we actually had everyone there, and one time shouldn't count because we all made it because Dad paid for that cruise for all of us. Who'd be foolish enough not to make that one? lol

I'm impressed your family still vacations together. But, so what? You miss a family meeting. Try and get more than four people together is a major undertaking. Everyone has a time schedule, so someone will miss the best time. If you need your say to be heard on something, then tell the sibling you trust to repeat it at the meeting. Why get bent out of shape?

My family just went through getting my Dad put into detox and then assisted-living. Six of us! There was no way of getting us together to make each decision along the way, and we never did. (Although the last time all six of us got together was Christmas 2014, because we knew that would be the last time we all got together for Christmas with Dad there.) Dad appointed my oldest brother to make decisions if he was ever unable to make them himself, and that's what we all stuck to. You just don't have to physically be there to be together on family decisions. Even agreeing together is optional just as long as everyone can get together mentally on the best course of action anyway and convey it to each other.

Again, this advice is from someone who doesn't trust God but is trying to blend in, so he thinks preaching tolerance will make him appear to fit in.

There was a reason -- it was the most convenient time for those who can go. It's always the same reason. lol

My brother is a chef, so he works on all major holidays and at night. He and another brother also live six hours away. So we go with what is most convenient for them and then the rest of us try to catch up. I'm always 50/50. Sometimes I make it. Sometimes I don't. (And that explains why we've only all gotten together twice in 35 years. lol)

In my opinion, I think you're getting mad over nothing. If you can't make it. Just tell them to reschedule. It's out of your control.

Maybe it is just me and that my family has never held, 'Family Meetings,'' but I've always found the, ''Family Meeting and all must be here,'' thing to be a bit controlling. I had an adult friend whose parents would hold them, often at a moment's notice, and everyone would scramble to be there because you, ''HAD,'' to be there.

If you have to work then you have to work. No other explanation should be necessary and someone passing on the word as to what took place, or what may affect you and you need to know, should be sufficient. You are an adult, have your own life and make your own decisions, and that should be respected. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't blame you for not going. I really don't see the urgency to absolutely have this family meeting at the precise time. If it can't be moved up a couple hours or set for one of your days off from work I would skip it. The siblings at the meeting can get you up to speed later.
