Revelation 9:21 Says that we shouldn't practice witchcraft [Greek word; Pharmakeia] which is where we get our word pharmacy from.

It's description is sometimes translated by greek scholars as drugs.

I personally get perverse thoughts when I'm off of these medications but when I'm on them I get pretty bad side effects too so it's kind of a hard decision either way.

Now the medical world would tell you that these medications are not bad for you but I think theres many Christians who would say otherwise so it's hard to tell.

I'm talking about anti psychotics anti depressants ect. not antibiotics or natural supplements.

I've been told by pastors I should take my medication and i've been told by pastors their not good for me.

I personally have three diseases and I need to take a different type of medication called anti biotics in addition to the other stuff these make me pretty different because their killing off diseases in my body.

No.

1 Timothy 5:23 Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.-Revelation 3:18

It is illegal for me or anyone else to tell you not to take your medicine and we're supposed to obey rulers.
It is also wrong not to take medicine. My stepsister didn't take her full chemotherapy treatment because she wanted to be healed and have children. The doctor predicted the cancer would come back in ten years and it came back with a vengeance and killed her. The doctor wanted to call the state and put a Christian in jail but he couldn't figure out who gave her the crazy belief.

Pharmakeia is a difficult topic to discuss as to what it is. Take the plain verses above and interpret the Bible by the clear verses instead of the unclear verses. You aren't in a practice of worshipping demons through medicine so you don't need to worry about it.

Bible usage .......

  1. the use or the administering of drugs
  2. poisoning
  3. sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it

The prefix pharma is related to drugs now. It was witchcraft back when the Bible was written. Back in the early 20th century they named a relatively recent, yet older, decade "the Gay 90's." Gay had nothing to do with homosexuality. Now it does.

You're trying to come up with biblical doctrine because you have conditions that requires medication and you don't like the conditions nor the medication. I get not liking my health conditions. I really don't like them. I get not liking the side effects of the drugs I'm on. I don't like them either. But I'm not making it into biblical doctrine, especially since there is no way of rightly doing that.

All in all, even though I hate my health conditions and hate requiring my medication, it sure beats back in the days when there was no medication for my health problems. I'd be dead already if I lived back then.

So don't make a mountain out of salt water. It can't be done, and even if it could, it shouldn't.

Seriously, I would consider finding a new church home if your current pastor believes that taking prescribed medication is an evil practice. Unless of course, your meds were prescribed by a witch doctor. Under the current Obamacare regulations this would probably be allowed.

It would be a sin to abuse your medications. Taken as prescribed is advisable not prohibited.

Doctors sometimes over prescribe prescriptions but as long as there is no interaction between the medications that cause the side effects I would take them with prayer expecting God to bless and produce the desired outcome.

I don't think there's anything wrong with antibiotics or normal medicine. Get prayer for healing so you don't need them anymore. If they don't pray for healing in your church watch T.B. Joshua praying for viewers or Derek Prince praying on youtube
My personal experience with antidepressants and oxazepam was bad, it was mind altering and addictive. I did a suicide attempt as a side effect of the prozac I got. I'm not allowed to say it in our church, people there use these meds too for mental stuff until they're healed by God, so I normally say nothing except when my ex wanted to put my kid on those drugs because he had not real voices but those OCD thoughts. Prayed, still had these thoughts like OCD or something. I told him: tell your dad God healed you. But then I lie. No it's the truth. God's Word says you're healed. He did, dad didn't believe it, but within one week it was totally gone. Didn't need to go to the psychologist anymore, didn't need drugs.

I had a partner back then when I was on those drugs who was on pot and I heard Hal Lindsey about this text, scorceries, so I told him he had to stop. He didn't want to and he was an atheist so he said: What's the difference? I smoke pot 6 times a day, you take 8 oxazepam and an antidepressant a day. I thought: he's right, so I just quit with it all. Normally even taking one less wasn't possible without outbursts of anger, I was addicted to it. Just stopped at once, no problem. It took a while but God healed me and I converted and got set free, it was just anger and sin. You don't get that away with pills.

If the doctor perscribed the medication, take it until he says to stop. Never stop on your own.
I would just add this thought.
Mabe if you spent more time in prayer and in the Word , it might lessen your problems.
It cured my.
The doctor could not understand, but I did.

..Is medication sin...
Certainly NOT!

In Rev 9v21, the A.V., T.R., and Mcde, read, “of their sorceries,” “ek ton pharmakeion auton.” “Pharmakeion,” is the genitive plural of the noun “pharmakeia.” Codex A reads “pharmakion.” The manuscripts Mab, p47, Aleph, C,Hodges and Farstad, and the Critical Texts; read, “ek ton pharmakon auton,” “of their drugs,” and refers to the practice of drugs (really "narcotics", mind altering substances, like heroin and cocaine) being used in sorcery, magic and enchantment. The adjective “pharmakos,” is used as a noun to describe a person who dealt in drugs, a sorcerer, enchanter, and magician, who used drugs and potions, to makes pells, charms and enchantments, it speaks of a person “devoted to magical arts.”

So, the occultist used/uses narcotics to induce a more conducive state of mind to practice the occult, which is COMPLETELY different to drugs/medicines being prescribed by a doctor for a therapeutic purposes!

My own personal feelings about drugs is that I use them as little as possible. I had a bad toothache a while ago and took some Advil for it, but if I don’t have a need for a drug, I don’t take it, even when a doctor prescribes it for me.

As for anti-depressants, I suffered from some depression when I was a young man, and I believe what had brought it on was the lifestyle that I was living, one that did not obey the Lord’s commandments. I suspect a lot of depression that people experience is from their lifestyles, and that a lifestyle change would be much more helpful than a drug, in the long run.

As a matter of fact, I wonder if the use of drugs in fighting depression can be dangerous. I don’t know how these drugs work, but I can see a person becoming dependent on the drug, and if he doesn’t have access to the drug when he needs it, he could fall into a really deep depression and commit suicide.

if not being on the medicine your doctor prescribed leads you to temptation -- then i think it's better to stay on your meds, for sure.
if the side effects are bad -- hopefully you can talk to your doctor about finding something that works better for you. as far as i know, there are a whole lot of different medicines these days in that category -- and science is discovering that a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to medicine is usually quite wrong -- so i hope there's something out there you & your doctor can work together to find that works well for you without much negative effect.

i've got really bad whiplash now from a car accident back in Nov. if i didn't take the muscle relaxers & pain medicine prescribed to me, i wouldn't be able to go to work or focus on school. i'm thankful for the things God has put on this earth that are useful for our bodies in sickness and pain -- i reckon you ought to think of it that way too, not abusing medicines, but being grateful that God has created them and understanding that they are for our good.

I don't think that using what God gave us in nature to restore and sustain our bodies is wrong, but Petro chemical medicine that only supresses the symptoms of a dis-ease, is nothing less than quackery, just like any backyard mechanic who gives you a hammer to smash out the red light on your dash board that shows something is wrong with your car but not does anything else. Daniel and his friends had great benefit with their diet at the time as well and God tells us to eat the fruit and seeds of nature and wow, seeds are so healthy for you.

Te root of witchcraft is all about control and yes, Big Pharma is out to that and create a pill or vaccine for everything. The germ theory is also not even completely correct as "bacteria are as much the cause of disease as flies are the cause of garbage". Flies are the result of garbage but not the cause, so also with bacteria. But bacteria and viruses are not always the cause as everything comes back to the state of you internal health or everybody would always and everywhere get sick from your flu etc.

"Let thy food be thy medicine and the medicine be thy medicine" is an old saying. In 1500 a scientist said: "Nature to be commanded is to be obeyed"

I have a few Christian friends who reversed their cancer as well. Have a look into Abram Hoffer and Naicin. He reversed psychosis, depression and schizophrenia in 6 months in 88% of his patients back in 1952 and kept working in the field until he was 90 and at that stage he was sharper than most half his age ;-)

Anti-biotics destroy a lot of your gut health, also called the your second brains, as it has more nerve cells than the brain and the Vegas nerve goes straight from the gut through the blood brain barrier. That's why they now reverse autism by restoring gut health. Someone with a head injury has a inflamed gut within 30 minutes and there are nine time more nerves going up the the brain than coming down. Use Oregano oil or coloidal silver instead if you like but use the right form. They used that before 1938.

The Flexner report of 1910 monopolized petro chemical medicine bro and by 1950 most natural schools of medicine had closed as the Rockefeller and Carnegie group had taken over the market. In the congressional records The Fitzgerald report of 1953 shows that there was a real war on unapproved natural medicine going on after they did research after the son of a senator was healed naturally of cancer. The AMA in 1987 was charged and tried Praise God after years trying to destroy the Chiropractic Industry but nothing has changed much. Money makes the world go round and big industry bullies lie and cheat and deceive to stay on top as humans are disposable. So sad.

These days we are all so programmed that, despite we know that a lemon helps with a cold, anything worse and go straight to the mortuary directors (MD) who only get one hour in nutrition during their years of training and only know to give that what they have been taught and told by Big Pharma or loose their profession. Have a look at John Oliver on marketing to Doctors. he is a bit rough on the edges but you will get then point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQZ2UeOTO3I

Gut health is the key as most chronic disease start there. I had a friend who reversed his non-hodskins lymphoma cancer now 18 years and that started my journey into natural medicine. I was always told natural stuff was quackery being brain washed by the media and the disease management industry. The money is in continuity drugs brother, not in getting people off them. God bless.

My next door neighbor was opposed to blood transfusions (he was a JW), and my friend in college dated a girl whose family were Christian Scientists and they didn't believe in taking any pills (they prayed if they got sick). Non-wacky Christians generally accept the science behind modern medicine today.

so is it a sin to take meds ( which I rarely take except sinus meds for allergies) or not??
