Thanks Depleted. This is one of the huge problems in our society now a days... you have to 'manage' relationships... how can anyone manage anything when we're so accessible to everyone at any given time... so, we grow exhausted and give up trying to manage it all... people take things so personal now a days... and voila! you have recipe for disaster. Everyone that I know, including myself, is sick and tired of trying to manage all of the text, emails, IMs, vms, that come at them...it's killing us to keep up with it all...and now we have to manage messages on Facebook and social media?? Is there a wonder why there's so many issues amongst people?
Really? Yikes! Life is busy enough without all that. I gave up FB a few years ago. I'm back on now to let family know what's going on with hubby. And then I look down the list of important stuff, and remember why it's not all that important.

You've got to manage IMs now? (At least I know what an IM is. lol) What's VMS, IMs with a face? Why?

Honestly, I learned how important I was when I gave up FB. Not surprisingly, I'm not that important. No one wondered. One person PM'd in the last three years to find out how I was. Didn't get it. Wasn't there. Now he knows. Call. lol

We aren't as important as we think we are.

I also gave up Facebook a couple years back.

Yep, especially when you're at work and your boss might IM you...you have to make sure to try to reply to all the IMs that come at you. VMS is voicemail, or making sure to call people back.

I guess the point I'm making is, with so many modes of communication, is it any wonder why people are exhausted of managing it all, thus lapsing in managing their overall relationship with a person since more people do social media, text, IM..more than they talk on the phone or more importantly, get together in person. All this contributes to relationships going sour, offenses, misunderstandings, loneliness. Lots at stake here. We need to get back to face to face communication.

back on track...sorry

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping to get some serious discussion going on about this because bad communication is a bigger problem than we may realize - it contributes to so many of our societal ills.

Thanks for pointing that out coby - the gospel is able to spread rapidly now, which is a reason why I think the Lord is 'very' soon to return.

Yes ember, good communication involves listening. Also, being able to effectively communicate yourself. So many people really struggle with articulating and communicating their thoughts. There's also speech pathologies. I think balanced communication is being able to effectively articulate your thoughts AND being able to effectively listen in dialogue.

Has anyone ever heard of the Whole Message method? Very effective.

No.. never heard of the Whole Message method

Took some interesting University courses for communication

One thing noted, is that people are quite often not in touch with how they 'feel'...they can't put it into words

Might be one reason for lack of ability to express your thoughts...or possibly how communication can be so misunderstood?
