Do You Feel Convicted When Buying Certain Products or Brands?

I'm preaching against american "cheese." It's NOT real cheese! Kraft, Velveeta, all those individually wrapped single slices... NOT CHEESE!

Now a good havarti, that I could go for. Or a nice colby, or even an aged cheddar, that would be nice. Try to fob me off with american "cheese" and you might wind up wearing it.

When we think about it, its really own to ethics. And everyone will have a different view on different products etc. I would say there certainly are areas of ethical shopping that none of us would do. But on the whole..its your concsience.

I'm not a makeup expert lol, but I would assume it is not the buying of it that is ethically wrong but possibly how it is used and why?

As for branded products, again, are you buying it for its quality or to show off? whats your motive. Branded goods, can sometimes be a better deal. Being frugal doesn't mean cheap.

Personally brands don't mean much to me, I like to look for quality and value for my money.. And that entails spending within my means..spending outwith your means isn't really a good ethical choice. (I know I was once there!)

Sorry my Sister, I just can't stand that store. To me it epitomizes the dumbing down of America. And make no mistake, I'm pretty dumbed-down, so for me to think this way says something. . . .

You guys know that Dick is a man's name, right? The store is named after the man. I don't believe there was any nefarious purpose behind it. Boycotting Dick's would be like refusing to read Moby Dick, or Dick and Jane, based on their titles. (If you want to boycott Dick's Sporting Goods, do it because their prices are outrageous.)

Having said that, I hope never to cross the threshold of Hooters. I cringe at the restaurant named "Fudruckers". I never want to own any kitchen appliance named "veggetti". No nefariousness there. Just... a really unfortunate choice of name.

I also share your confusion over why anyone would name their cosmetic products "Urban Decay". What are these people thinking??

Oh Grace, they have some of the best tasting burgers on the planet. When I first ate there as a kid I thought I'd gone to hamburger heaven. It was that good. I've been there a few times as an adult too and it hasn't disappointed one bit.

Lol this is a little bit of a "bad" joke but my dad and I use to go to a booksamillion next to one of these "dick's stores" and there was a guy there who went to our church who always thought he was better than everybody, and wanted to show how manly he was by getting all this outrageous equipment (he was 58 or 60 yo) to play volleyball knee pads, gloves etc...and he never could have kids....

So me being a teen I asked my dad "hey why does he go shopping there he's like 60 yo and some stuff there is expensive to only play once a week?"

Dad: "Oh he goes to Dicks because he doesn't have one" Man I lost it, and still laugh to this day.....

I have to disagree. The hamburgers there are better than fast food burgers, but they are nowhere near real (homemade) burgers.

The only eatery I know that has real, honest-to-goodness burgers is a small local restaurant near here. They use real, honest-to-goodness packs of ground beef and make hamburgers out of it, NOT preformed patties. And they have a whole menu of extras you can add - fried jalapenos, fried egg (it's a southern thing, putting a fried egg on a burger) avocado, bleu cheese, fried pickle, red onion, and a whole lot of other stuff I can't remember right now.

Lynx you're making me hungry....I agree homemade is the best, not that restaurant sodium filler stuff...I like fried jalapenos, fried red onions, tomato, fried bell peppers, pickles, and a slice of cheese to go with my burger...sesame seed bun, and some tabasco sauce mixed mayo....yum

I totally understand where you're coming from! when I'm buying nylon stockings or some other such product, I will go with the "sheer mist" as apposed to the "nude". The same applies to makeups and other products. It's a conscience thing really, while it might not be wrong for someone else, it IS wrong to go against your conscience in matters like this were it isn't clearly spelt out in the scriptures. It's really interesting to read about the wide range of things people do and do not feel personally convicted of.

I have to confess, some of the the things others here feel convicted of have never caused me to even bat an eye... and obviously, vice versa for the things I feel convicted of.

On one hand, it makes me wonder if I've grown dull to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and yet the other part of me wonders if I'm becoming some kind of fanatic.

Okay....this is kind of embarrassing, but I used to be convicted of buying feminine products. I know it's a bit silly and after going to the store with my dad one time where he made it publicly known what I needed to get. As I got older I am no longer feeling convicted when I need to pick these items up, in fact I am proud and blessed that I need those products

I know the feeling. I don't even like parking my car there because I've already discovered it was hit once while parked there. Luckily it only scraped the paint on the bumper. I've also come back to my car to find someone parked too close or some idiot who didn't pull into the spot all the way so the back half of their car is sticking out into the roadway. Also, I've seen cars parked so crooked its ridiculous. Then there's the people....
