Amen brother. You have to realise the Word is a sign post, not God himself. If I gave you a book on how to walk, it would be useless unless you start walking. Gods word is not different. Jesus says believe in me to gain eternal life.
It is the living word. Mere words don't do this. It is alive.

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Other translations use the word "quick".

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

So you have to plant the word:

1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Matthew 13:23 But he that received seed (the word) into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

I was asking a theologian one time if the devil could hear our thoughts. In some ways we are predictable and he has been watching men and women for 6,000 years. But the theologian said, "no" because he believes that spells are always spoken. Except God speaks things into existence and His word is a seed and the Holy Spirit quickens us when we believe.

  1. to produce alive, begat or bear living young
  2. to cause to live, make alive, give life
    1. by spiritual power to arouse and invigorate
    2. to restore to life
    3. to give increase of life: thus of physical life
    4. of the spirit, quickening as respects the spirit, endued with new and greater powers of life
  3. metaph., of seeds quickened into life, i.e. germinating, springing up, growing
That is the definition of quickening.

Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

This is why it pays to go to some churches. I wish I wasn't so foolish in my life and went there earlier and stayed there so that I could learn old doctrines better in a time when they actually taught the word.

The living Word is Christ. It is His Holy Spirit that lives in our hearts and guides us. Our minds need to be full of Jesus's words and the two together make a whole. It is through the communion with God that Jesus's words come alive.

Anyone can read the words "Love your enemy" but without the context of Christ, His word and the Holy Spirit it could mean almost anything positive. What I have been facing is defeated christians, who were bound in legalism and rules but now walk free, or so they claim. There is a spiritual conumdrum how faithful people seem to fail to walk as Jesus walked.

I know from my own life my heart, my emotions were effected by my family and experience. This tends to filter and change every idea or word I hear. Over time I found the Lord changed my heart, showed me things, help me walk through different behaviours by just obeying the love that was within and I changed. But without the context of love and Jesus I would have got hurt and rejected and failed. Now our culture today is very individualistic and very childish, people not experiencing deep hurt or issues but mainly just bumbling along. This changes the language because so much is missing in life experience.

If you want to know about forgiveness meet Corrie Ten Boom. Emotional impact is important because much of Christs words speak to a people torn by life, ripped apart by tragedy and not the spoilt brat community of todays world. So one word said out of place is sin, a hurt that will never heal, and people should know better. Buried emotion and constant anxiousness is the modern plague, because things are possible to hide from now, whereas before if you were left alive you were blessed.

I am still learning a new language for this age of people, but it is getting there. Praise the Lord. Stay strong in the Word.

Legalism prevents people from listening to God.

The only difference between the good soil and the soil that doesn't produce is that in the latter case the caretaker (believer) doesn't do the work of keeping the soil (the heart) cleaned of weeds (sin).

In the latter case, the word is "choked out" and therefore does not produce a renewed spiritual life in the person; "the anxieties of the age and the pleasures of wealth chokes the message and it becomes unfruitful". The effect is stifling the word/gospel, such that the person does not bear the fruit of salvation; "he becomes unfruitful/produces nothing" and faith without works is dead. "Fruitless believer" is an oxymoron. All genuine believers are fruitful, but not all are equally fruitful (Matthew 13:23).

Amen...now we have " obedience of faith"..in the finished work of Christ.

Romans 1:4-5 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,
[SUP]5 [/SUP] through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake,

When we are saved we allow the Spirit to lead us,in which we will do works of the Spirit, and can abstain from sin, which is a requirement to be saved, which is obedience to do what is right, which the Bible says some people deny the Spirit leading them, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, and are lovers of pleasures, more than lovers of God,and they will not make it.

The Bible says if we sin wilfully, there is no more sacrifice for that sin,if we stay in it,but a fearful looking after of judgment, and condemnation.

After we confess Christ, and are saved,we cannot live how we want as long as we confess Christ, which means we are to do good, and abstain from evil by the Spirit, and if so then we are being obedient, but that one thing we have to do to be obedient,is to allow the Spirit to lead us,but not all do that and confess Christ, but do not allow the Spirit to lead them, and are not obedient, but if they confess Christ and deny the Spirit, being disobedient, are they still saved because they confess Christ.

The Bible says they are not saved, and we have a choice after we come to God and are saved, for the fact that we still have the capacity to sin after we are saved if we desire, testifies that it is still our choice to be saved or not,for if we confess Christ, but do not do right in by abstaining from evil then we are not saved,so then our obedience is necessary for salvation, since we have a choice still after we are saved.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

For people who appear to think that our obedience does not matter,or our lifestyle does not matter,we are saved as long as we confess Christ, tell it to these people, that even though they labored for the kingdom of God,could still not be with Jesus, for Jesus said they did not do the will of the Father, and were workers of iniquity, which means plain and simply, they were disobedient.

A post I made in another thread, can be my response to your quote:

Our sins were washed in His blood(Rev 1:5), and the blood also purged our conscience to serve the living God once we were saved:

"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Heb 9:14

You are either totally trusting on the finished work of Christ for salvation, or trusting in self. By grace are we saved through faith, it is the gift of God. Eph 2:10 takes this truth and states we were created in Christ Jesus for good works, this is our reasonable service(Rom 12:1)! "
Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid, how shall we, that are dead. to sin, live any longer therein?" Rom 6:1-2
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" Titus 3:5
