Hey Everyone,

How many of us have heard the so-often repeated phrase, "God has a wonderful plan for your life"? I'm guessing most of us would run out of fingers AND toes if we counted how many times we've heard or read this well-meaning summary of Jeremiah 29:11 ("For I know the plans I have for you... to give you hope and a future....")

But how many of us feel as if we've actually discovered this plan, or are even living it out?

What does the "plan of God" look like in one's life, exactly?

I have to admit that I envy the people who seem to have been given a straight and narrow road map to follow from early childhood. I've met a few people who pretty much "knew" what God called them to do, and their lives, for the most part, seemed to go "according to plan"--they became a teacher, got married, had 3 kids...

But for most people I know, it hasn't exactly worked out that way. First of all, many people I talk to have no idea what God "has planned" for their lives. Second, even if they think they know "their plan", they have no idea how to go about it ("God wants me to marry and have a family, but I'm 35 and don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend yet.")

Finally, what happens when and if you actually "discover" the plan, and get to live it out--does God's "plan" change for you over the span of your lifetime? (What would "the plan" look like when you're 20 vs. when you're 60?)

Questions to consider:

1. What is God's plan for your life? What advice have you received as far as how to find it?

2. What are you doing to follow this "plan"?

3. Do you feel God's plan for you has changed over the years?

Personally, my life hasn't turned out anything like what I thought my "plan" would be.

Sometimes I wonder if what God really offers most of us is an "Unplan"--something kind of like, "Don't get too set on any one thing, because there are several changes I'm going to make along the way, and you're going to have to let go of (unplan) several of your own ideas for your life."

Thoughts? Experiences? Something to share?

I would love to read what you have to say. :)

My answer: I have no idea...still waiting...
I have to admit that one of the things that intimidates, and maybe even scares me, is that I've met Christians who have lived out their entire lives...

And this is still their answer.

These are genuine, God-fearing Christians.

Is God's plan for us so mysterious, hidden, or hard to find that so many will spend a lifetime waiting... with no answers?

All I can offer is a few thoughts.

Life is what happens while you're making other plans.

If there is nothing to do, don't do it. If there is something to do, do it.

One other thing... Just because you don't know what the plan is does not mean there is not one.

i don't think I will ever truly know and understand his plan for me and my life until I am finally home and he shows me the journey we walked why things happened the way they did and every tiny thing that happened that I did that I went through happened.
I have a feeling that every bit is going to make perfect sense on that day and as long as I follow my heart and my hearts eyes are locked on him that day will come maybe even sooner than I expect

IDK ....all I know is waiting stinks bad.....this gets into the whole debate of do we wait for God like we're waiting for a prize to drop into our lives or do we take the effort and walk towards our goals knowing God has our back??? I just hate this limbo of life not knowing what to do whether to proceed or step back....crappiest feeling in the world....

I think the problem is that people imagine God's plan goes something like this.

1) Get a good education, get rich, raise a nice Christian family, spread a little gospel
about, give yourself a pat on the back, die and go to heaven.

or

2) Be a real brat, take drugs, get saved, go to bible college, become a worldwide
evangelist, make trillions, spread the gospel on every county, get a TV show, die
and go to heaven.

But the following can also be part of god's plan.

1) Struggle to raise your children as best as you can, teach them about Christ, die.
Then later on your sons lead many to Christ (John & Charles Wesley's mum).

2) Take in an orphan and later come to Christ yourself, then take that orphan to
church so they come to Christ and are able to use their musical talants to worship
God (my aunt and me)

3) struggle all your life with eating disorders, but always seek God. Finally manage to
overcome the eating disorders and through that, set a great example to others of
answered prayer and triumph. (My friend).

4) just be a good neighbour which eventually sees your neighbour coming to salvation.
(the pastor and his wife).

5) Abraham - leave everything and live as a nomad, centuries later he is known
as a founding father of many nations.

6) Job - lose everything and bring encouragement to generations of people.

7) Lydia - sell purple in the bible just to prove a point that there is nothing
wrong with women working.

8) Woman of Samaria - talk to Jesus while going about her every day business
and then invite many to hear him.

8) Jesus - come to die on a cross due to false accusations, but who conquered
death and paid the ransoms for the entire world.

Ps also see Hebrews 11

Maybe, just maybe you are already living out God's plan. :D

God's plan was that I married a pastor and we would get the harvest in in Holland as a start. A few prophets confirmed that.
The plan changed for the marriage part, because we didn't do our part, but the awesome thing is His plan hasn't changed. He wants to use every believer to get the harvest in and disciple people.

What I do? Other than just hanging on CC I started to pray again in the morning for souls and pray that He sets me on fire. Hope we will go out with church to get the harvest in, but I think I shouldn't wait on others anymore and just step out and do it. Why not here, why not now, why not with me? David Wagner said. His plan is world revival. That guy from the Welsh revival just prayed for hours every day.

I have no idea whatsoever

I certainly hope his plan isn't that I keep living in my parents house 'till I get grey hairs myself :p
I suspect part of His plan is to teach me patience .... I just don't know if I'm patient enough for it

God waits on us. He did everything. Yesterday I saw this very inspiring movie, new believers that don't wait, but get kickstarted and step out in the ministry of the believer:

I think as already stated above in differing ways that we think of these plans as the same as the world views success, or life plans.

God's plan will always prosper his children because we have all the spiritual blessing we need (Eph 1:3-6), we have the greatest benefits we could ever want in Christ - New Birth, Justification, adoption.etc etc etc. the unfolding plan of each of us becoming more and more christlike (Jer 29:11; Romans 12:2; Philippians 3:13-14; 2 Cor 3:18) until that day when we will be glorified(Romans 8:28-30; 2 Cor 4:17; 1 john 3:2).

Most often we feel as if we do not know God's plan for us is because we want OUR plan to be God's plan. Being the salt of the earth exactly where you are now is God's plan for you at this moment.

..."God Has a Wonderful Plan for Your Life!!" That's Great! So What Is It?...
Matt 7v7,8: "Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened."

Thus you will find God's mind for you!

Really like this post, me and my grandma were having this discussion earlier.. I never knew my purpose and i still dont, but even saying that i look at how God has used me and think that all must be part of my purpose.. When we think of Gods plan usually we think of the future, we try and see ourselves as complete rather than living in the now, i am only just getting this.

Romans 12:2 says Be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that u may be able to prove what is the perfect will of God for your life. As we abide in the word we will grow in the knowledge of his perfect will, Im not saying that God dosent give us visions and dreams he does... We are required to put complete trust in him every second of everyday and submit to his will for our lives not ours, that can only be achieved when we abide in him which is to abide in his word...
I know myself that i have believed lots of things to be of God and it turns out they werent..... He knows whats best for us. We dont. Bless u xxxxxxx
