I'm in a philosophical mood at the moment. I was chatting to
someone earlier today who looks after a 98 year old.

It got me wondering what it would be like to be 98, will we
know everything, will there be anything left worth talking about.

Will there still be goals to aim for, will life still shock us or will it
just be the same old same old.

Will we know the bible back to front and inside out, or will we
still be learning.

But then what about those early bible characters who lived 100s of
years.

Part of me hopes I will fit the latter category below. Lol

To be perfectly honest, I hope I never get that old. I know to much about retirement homes to want to end up in one.
I do imagine my generation, and the younger ones, sitting wit their laptops, Ipods and other tech gadgets, chatting away.

and yeah, agree with the pic :D

I know what you mean about the retirement homes, over here we call them
old people's homes.

They have actually closed a lot of old people's homes in the UK and
try to keep people living in their own homes with carers popping by for as
long as possible.

Im not sure that is any better as many people just sit in a chair or in bed waiting
for the carers, many live on their own.

But there are many who can still get about with assistance. The 98 year old I mentioned
still is able to go for a walk with assistance and go for a drive to etc.

DEUT. 32:6-7.
Do you thus requite The Lord, O foolish people and unwise? Is not He thy Father that has bought you?
Has He not made you, and established you?

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your Father and He will show you;
your elders and they will tell you.

Haven't you caught on yet? If you don't want to end up in the retirement homes of today, it's up to you and your generation to stop them being like that when you get to that age!

Me? Tomorrow hubby returns to the nursing home he lived in for two weeks again, and we're very happy about that. He goes to another one after that. I hope that next one is the one we both retire into. Ages is already here for us, albeit earlier than planned. Thank God for nursing homes, because living in a car is the other choice.

And to be clear, of course we saved for retirement. We had a good chunk of change for it 16 years ago. Then health left spending that retirement money with it, while the economy collapsed. What is planned for doesn't always happen as planned.

Part of the reason why I broke off my studies to become a nurse was that I wanted to sit and talk to people but always had to run off and do something else. It made me so frustrated I wasn't able to do things as well as I should (the "technical" bits).

I never wondered what it's like to be old. I do contemplate what it's like if it's your last day or last week alive.

Yeah.. I'll probably be sitting on CC and playing games just like I am now. lol Just kidding.

On the Nursing Home topic, I've done a clinical or two at them and I would not want to work or stay there. I'll never forget this one sweet lady. She was simply there because she couldn't take care of herself. It really was sad. If we could adopt grandmas, I definitely would have. :/

But no.. I don't think about it or want to think about it. But when I'm old, I hope I still have my sense of humor and enough energy to run kids off my lawn. :p

I just hope my body can still function in all ways, I know wishful thinking lol. Having loved ones around me is by far the most important thing about getting old.

After taking my medical insurance class this last term I realized how much Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) cost and if not placed in there according to the rules of Medicare, they will not cover anything so it has me thinking of that side of things I suppose.

I think I will just be more tired. But, if I go the way of my parents, my mind will be sharp even in my 90s.

Maybe more outspoken because you sort of lose inhibitions (verbally) as you age. You just don't need people to approve of you anymore. And you appreciate every part of you that doesn't hurt. I do now.

Have to say my defination of old has changed over the years.

As a teen I thought 40 was old.

Then in my 20s that changed to around 50.

Now I think of old as maybe 80!

I'm about 12 years older than my nephew. So, on his 16th birthday, I was about 28. I had played plenty of volleyball when I was 16-18, so I knew how to play it plus had a few good moves leftover.

His friends started playing volleyball and I joined in. At 28 years old I first learned, "I ain't as young as I used to be."

It's been all downhill since. lol

Willie is going to kick me if I'm wrong, but isn't he 70? And then there is Jaume. I think you're with my age group on here -- advanced-middle-aged. lol

(I do get a kick out of Grandpa still being a kid. He's only middle-aged.)
