Two different types of tongues in scripture...as in the below which I will post again.

If the "tongues" given for the assembly is speaking out with a subsequent gift called the interpretation of tongues is used to speak to men for consolation and for comfort and for edification of the hearers - because it is the same as simple prophesy....then wwhy does the devotional tongues in 1 Cor 14:2 say that we are speaking unto God and not unto men.

So, you see there are 2 types of tongues - one for the personal prayer time for the Lord and one for the assembly of believers to bless them.

One speaking in tongues is to the Lord - the other which is as the Spirit wills ( with an interpretation ) is speaking to men.

There
is a manifestation of the Spirit for the assembly of believers called the gift of tongues which needs to be interpreted ( these occur as the Spirit wills - not us ) but that is not to be confused with the personal devotional tongues available to all believers ( this we can do as we will..see 1 Cor. 14:14-15 ) for praying to their Father and Lord as can be seen in 1 Cor 14:2

Then poor belivers in Christ who lived before 1906. And pleass tell me why people in heresy groups and pagans can speak in tounges too.

interesting. i wonder why Jesus taught nothing on all of this?
He sorta did - he just didn't go into all of it and I do believe that at the time they would not have understood it.

Jesus told the disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father. The promise of the Father was that they would be "endued with power from on high". (Luke 24:49) . . . . "wait for the promise of the Father which , saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the holy Spirit not many days hence. . . But you shall receive power after that the holy Spirit is come upon you" . . . (Acts 1:4,5,8)

Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the holy Spirit, he hath shed forth this which you now see and hear . . . . Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the holy Spirit. (Acts 2:33,38)

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. . . . . the nine manifestations are wrapped up in one gift - that new creation God created in you is Spirit - God is Spirit and He communicates with that Spirit within you - all via the gift of holy spirit. God speaks to you by word (message - hardly ever just a "word" but a message) of knowledge - that is how He directs you in situations that you pray about. He speaks to you by a message of wisdom - how to practically apply that message of knowledge. He speaks to you regarding discerning of spirits. Tongues is a language - you could say - a "new" language given to the new creation within you . . . that language can be used for your private prayer life - communication between you and God or in a gathering of believers - God will give you prophecy or He will direct you to speak in a tongue but will also give you the interpretation to edify the body of believers. Working of miracles and gifts of healing are dependent upon faith - yours and the one receiving.

Just as the fruit of the Spirit (singular) is considered ONE fruit with nine manifestations - love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance . . . . the manifestation of the Spirit (singular) has nine manifestations.

When did this type of different tongues (speaking to God) ever happen in the Bible?
1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, (because no one can understand the language) but unto God (because God can understand every language and even our thoughts): for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (even if it's spiritual it is still a mystery because no one can understand it).
When in the entire Bible did anyone speak a heavenly language that was just so God can understand?
Paul continues to condemn speaking in an unknown tongue.
1Co 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
1Co 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
1Co 14:11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
1Co 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
1Co 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
1Co 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

why are people so obsessed with tongues?
when the Apostles used tongues it was a tool they used to preach. the message of Jesus was the focus. yet today there are those that seem to think the whole point of it all is to speak in tongues. as if tongues are the end result. i dont get it.

It was not only that. It's also a personal prayer language. Howare you to pray without ceasing if you can't pray in tongues and how can you build your inner man? Also by the Word but I'm very glad I can intercede for people in tongues.

Always, Paul spoke more in tongues than all of them. Not the gift out loud in church. This text is about a church setting.
Lately read a testimony of a guy in Holland on Facebook. I sometimes had the idea it sounded like Hebrew.
He said a Jewish man got saved when he 'babbled' as some may call it, because it was old Hebrew.

Right there in that verse . . . For he that speaks in a tongue speaks not unto men but unto God. It edifies (builds up) the believer spiritually. Speaking in a tongue was not available until men were born again of the Spirit and received the gift of holy Spirit.
Paul continues to condemn speaking in an unknown tongue.

"Paul continues to condemn speaking in an unknown tongue." . . . He condemns tongues then says that he speaks in tongues more than any of them? . . . that he will pray with the spirit (which is speaking in tongues) and he will sing in the spirit but yet he condemns it? He spent 3 chapters explaining it and explaining how it should be used in the church.

Speaking in tongues to our heavenly Father and Lord is a great blessing from the God. Paul said in 1 Cor 14:5 that he wished that all of the Corinthians spoke in tongues.

We speak mysteries in the spirit to our Lord.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NASB)
[SUP]2 [/SUP] For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.

Praying in tongues build us up in the Lord. Jude 1:20 and the below verse.

1 Corinthians 14:4 (NASB)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.

Praying in tongues by passes our minds and prays according to our inner man of the heart...the new creation in Christ. We have limited understanding with our minds. Notice that the order is praying with our spirit comes first - then our mind...and we sing too with our spirit and with our mind.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

[SUP]15 [/SUP] What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

When we pray in tongues - we bless the Lord and give thanks well - 1 Cor. 14:6-7

When we pray in tongues we speak of the mighty works of God and give Him glory - Acts 2

Personally I speak and sing in tongues every day! Paul spoke in tongues a lot because he said he spoke in tongues more then they all. 1 Cor. 14:18 Paul also said not to forbid to speak in tongues. 1Cor 14:39

There is a manifestation of the Spirit for the assembly of believers called the gift of tongues which needs to be interpreted ( these occur as the Spirit wills - not us ) but that is not to be confused with the personal devotional tongues available to all believers ( this we can do as we will..see 1 Cor. 14:14-15 ) for praying to their Father and Lord as can be seen in 1 Cor 14:2

I encourage all believers to ask the Lord about this blessing. It's free to all and will help us to grow spiritually as it builds us up in the Lord.

This is wonderful witness, thank you, I pray this way every day, but I don't sing this way every day, I have, but its usually when I am alone in the car and I can let rip.

I didn't know that you know the person history of everyone prior to 1906 to know whether they prayed in tongues to their Father in their prayer closets.

Of course we could just ignore all the scriptures too that talk about the benefits of praying in tongues to our Father. I know it's foolishness to our natural minds.

Why did the church for 1,300 years have a "different gospel " before Luther came in 1521 and said "The just shall live by faith"?

The Holy Spirit is not going to force you to receive the Lord's gift to you if you don't want it...bless you and have a great day!

Again, there are two types of manifestations of tongues in 1 Cor....one for public use which is used with another gift - interpretation of that tongue..then there is the private tongue of speaking to our Lord.

Read again the posts where I and others have discussed it. There is a praying with our spirit which could be in a tongue that is angelic or any one of the thousands of human languages that have been around in the past or present.

1 Cor 13:1 " Though I pray in tongues of men and of angels and have not love..."

There is also a praying with our mind - our own understanding which in scripture quoted comes after we pray in tongues...

Again.the Holy Spirit does not force people to pray in the spirit to their Father and Lord. Ask Him about all this..He will show you by the Holy Spirit within you what the truth is. You will not understand this with your own human reasoning.....

That's great! It's a major blessing. Sometimes I sing in tongues quietly to myself while playing racquetball - it calms me down..lol

You can always tell how important a truth is by the level of antagonism against it......keep walking in in your faith and continue to build yourself up in the Lord.

Jude 1:20 (NASB)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

Non of the Reformators teached about speaking in tongues ore healing AS it teached from pentecostal and charismatic movements. And also the signs which appeares along with getting the holy spirit in 1906, like moving and acting like animals ore laughing without control you will not find in the bible.
If this would be so important for US believers in our relationship with our father. Why they dont teached that? And does it means that belivers which cant speak ore pray in tongues, can not ha e such a near relationship, then somebody who speakes ore pray in to tongues?
And still you did not answered my question how it comes that in heretic groups ore pagans speaking in tongues?

Your question is good, if you had not taken your quotes out of context,
1 Corinthians 14:5

I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
This starts with Paul's heart when he says "I wish you all . . ." so to say 'Paul condemns' speaking in tongues is not correct, he is emphasizing that when the church is together we should not focus on the gift of tongues as the be all and end all of the exercise, and when it is in church, it should be for edification of others not to puff ourselves up.

I thank you all for your comments and advice, I pray that the person I had in my heart when I started this thread will find this and the links posted here useful and a blessing on them, in Jesus name Amen.

I don't know of any pagan groups or your heretic groups that speak in tongues....but IF there is such a thing...it is a counterfeit..satan counterfeits what the Lord does....just look at the miracles that were done by the enemy in front of Pharaoh and Moses.

Anyway -- if you don't want to pray with your spirit to your Lord..you don't have to receive it....it's called a gift for a reason....The HolyuSpirit will not force it on anyone...

when people outright reject scripture then I have as much interest in talking further on this subject as I do wanting to know the ant population of Africa.

Here are some resources for anyone wishing to look at speaking in tongues in church history.

Demons can use someone's mouth too and your soul can make up things.
First time I thought I spoke in tongues I said lalalalalalala and I was seriously convinced that if my tongue was a millimeter to the back God understood the difference. La: Lord save Jantje, la: and Pietje.

If you haven't already done so, do scroll down to Page 10 in the study you'll find a section on the gift of tongues.
Thank you, I have had a quick read through, and will later look in depth.

It is a powerful thing when baptised in the Holy Spirit, I remember feeling if I didn't open my mouth I would explode, and the person with me said I sounded like a snake for ages afterwards. It wasn't until later that I realised the Welsh word for Jesus was Esse.

For those who are sceptical of this phenomena, there does seem to be a control which the Spirit has used on me, whether this is so for everyone with this gift I don't know, but when the Spirit wants to be uttered my chin and lower teeth ache, and the only thing to relieve the ache is to speak out. This is done, when usually in company, whether church or otherwise, and if there is no one else to give an interpretation there are usually two or three words that present themselves in my thoughts, which I then speak out and the rest follows.

Afterwards I am unable to recollect what I have said word for word, I know the gist of it, but the words are not mine. I can at any time praise God this way, and do use this for praying for specific things by either bringing them to mind or by asking the Holy Spirit to pray what He knows these things need when I do not. It is not a free for all, and any confusion is the weapon of the enemy.
