Here is a couple of stories that deals with the Spirit and with anger.
1Sam 11:1-7 AND NAHASH the Ammonite went up and besieged Jabesh-gilead; and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, Make a treaty with us, and we will serve you.
2 But Nahash the Ammonite told them, On this condition I will make a treaty with you, that I thrust out all your right eyes and thus lay disgrace on all Israel.
3 The elders of Jabesh said to Nahash, Give us seven days' time, that we may send messengers through all the territory of Israel. Then, if there is no man to save us, we will come out to you.
4 Then messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told the news in the ears of the people; and all the people wept aloud.
5 Now Saul came out of the field after the oxen, and [he] said, What ails the people that they are weeping? And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh.
6 The Spirit of God came mightily upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was greatly kindled.
7 And he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whoever does not come forth after Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen! And terror from the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.
Can you believe the Spirit of God actually coming upon a man that God raised up and causing him to be angry and then take action as he did in verse 7.
1Sam 17:26-32 And David said to the men standing by him, What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?
27 And the [men] told him, Thus shall it be done for the man who kills him.
28 Now Eliab his eldest brother heard what he said to the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David and he said, Why did you come here? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and evilness of heart; for you came down that you might see the battle.
29 And David said, What have I done now? Was it not a harmless question?
30 And David turned away from Eliab to another and he asked the same question, and again the men gave him the same answer.
31 When David's words were heard, they were repeated to Saul, and he sent for him.
32 David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of this Philistine; your servant will go out and fight with him.
This is an interesting story because we have a situation that illustrates anger that worked God's righteousness through David and an anger against David from his older brother Eliab that was jealous and it did not work the righteousness of God. David was angry and upset that this filthy uncircumcised Philistine would defy the armies of the Living God and that no one would go out shut his mouth and fight against him. That mood of anger came from the Living God and gave David tremendous boldness and confidence and was justified in the slaying of that Philistine. The anger of Eliab was revealed for what it was and had no effect upon David or what God did through David in killing the Philistine. David was honored in the eyes of Israel because of it.
This is something else we should get angry with when we see it happen and deal with it right on the spot.
Prov 25:23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
Prov 6:19 (One of the (6) things the Lord hates) ...A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
This discord that is sown among the brethren causes strife and contention. It is sown among the brethren that have unity in two areas / Ps 133:1 ...unity in the faith / Eph 4:13 and unity of the Spirit / Eph 4:3. The strife and contention that results from sowing discord is designed to hinder the unity of the brethren so that God is unable to command a blessing / Ps 133:3. This discord is usually sown with individuals or small groups that are weak in the faith and are away from the leadership of their local assembly. God hates and is angry with the one who is sowing the discord because they are trying to hinder the unity that the brethren in the local assembly that God has spent much time establishing in the heart of the believers and among His people. Diotrephes is an example of one who sowed discord and malicious words among the brethren.
3Jn 1:9-11 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
I don't see where we have to be happy or pleased with those that sow discord among the brethren and I think that any anger we have concerning this discord and toward those that sow it is justified and warranted even if we do it with our countenance.
