I keep a couple of hundred books on my computer’s hard drive. And I often select one and go back to read maybe sometimes only a dozen pages. I just finished doing this, and it made me a little sad.
We have a good-sized handful of readers on here. But it is a woefully tiny percentage of the whole forum. I am especially pleased that many of our younger people are readers, and it shows in not only their writing abilities, but also in the powerfully logical and rational grasp of their thinking and understanding.
Kudos to you, Kids! You are truly our future…. THE future.
Anyhoo… I wanted to post a paragraph or two from the book I was reading this morning. (It contained information that I felt could be of great importance to one of the presently ongoing conversations here.) But I realized something.
Hardly anything worth reading can be just “picked” from the middle of a book. What goes before it, and often, what follows, are vital and necessary parts of the whole. And so few people here seem to have the desire or sometimes perhaps the ability, to do much more than merely zero in on, and focus upon one short notion or thought.
With that unfortunate realization, I just wanted to make sure that the readers here, especially the younger contributors, know just how special they are. I, for one, value what you bring to what might otherwise be little more than an endless, circularly-frozen Squabble Fest.
