Tattoosactually originated with slavery in England they put numbers on the slave because they were property but it is different now so it doesn't really matter. :)

Wow thank you for that information. If the Pope had something to do with the Christmas Tree origins, then no wander it is pagan. Because if you read Revelation 17 I think it is very apparent that the Roman Catholic Church is MYSTERY BABYLON MOTHER OF HARLOTS.

Actually no. lol. Not trying to sound rude, but that is not what it is saying at all. It is in agreeance. Look at all of these translations:

NIV 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

NLT Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.

ASV Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am Jehovah.

NASB 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.

They are all just saying that you shall do neither for the dead.

Wow. I just read the whole thread, and it was mildly entertaining...:) Now, to answer the original question, and the purpose of the thread, I'm going to go with "neither". But that's only because a) I just don't want to deal with the piercing(s) and b) I hate needles and therefore, a tattoo is out of the question. And now, to join the debate! This has probably all been shared, but whatever! Quite frankly, I like tattoos. Smaller ones. And piercings look good on some people (not me, lol...). The verse in Leviticus does say not to put tattoo marks on yourselves. But that's in there along with 'do not clip off the edges of your beard'. Back then, it was related to pagan rituals. Today, the same thing doesn't apply. Romans 14:23b says, "...everything that does not come from faith is sin." Well, if I were to get a tattoo expressing my faith, my favorite verse perhaps, is that a sin? I don't think so. I don't think so. Because only God knows so.

Caleb I'd be very careful comparing Christ's death to the cross to body piercing those are two WHOLE different subjects. :)

I realize this, lol. someone is going to flip over it and take it the wrong way. I just noticed that now. I know they are different things I just thought it was a good picture, because in a way it is true. I'm not saying that everyone should have them. I'm just saying that Jesus dying on the cross for me did save my life.

Wow .. I dont think he wanted those piercings there, it was just a way they tortured him, but i guess ...

I never said he wanted them there. But he loved me enough to get them there.

Yeah, no. Sorry those aren't "body piercings" maybe the nails pierced his body, but yeah, that just doesn't seem right. But I understand what you mean.

Yah, I dos'ent say anything about body piercing saving our lives. Just another way people try to justify something they know deep down they shouldn't do.

he brought up a poor argument to prove his point but that doesn't make body piercings wrong
