rep power has to do with nr of posts, and, I think, reps received and given. If you look in the tech user to user support forum I think there are some threads on it

Great username and picture! I saw your posts about rep power, along with some of the responses.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but I think you also get a rep point for every year you're here. So let's say you join on Jan. 1--the following year, on Jan. 1, you will receive a rep point on the date of your anniversary.

Don't worry too much about it--I've been here a while and I STILL haven't figured out how the rep system works!! It's a nice way for people to give and receive (hopefully positive) feedback, but other than that, it doesn't really mean anything.

People with higher rep power have no more say or authority than people without any, so having more rep is really more of a visual trophy rather than any kind of status.

Don't be discouraged when you see that other people here have tons of rep, either. It could mean that: 1. they've been here forever (for example, maybe they've been on the site 10 years and have gotten a rep point each year just for being here); 2. they're here all the time (some members are retired or don't/can't work and are here posting 24/7, which definitely ups the chance of them receiving more rep); or 3. several people have related to their posts and have chosen to give them rep points as often as they can (the system will limit how many times you can rep the same people and will make you give points to others before letting you rep the same people again.)

This is also how I personally use rep--I give it when I read a post that I can really relate to, or was really courageous, or gave me an insight I'd never really considered before.

But in the grand scheme of things, rep doesn't really mean anything other than to say, "This person has been here a long time and has received a lot of feedback from other users."

P.S. When you leave someone rep, the system will also give you an option to leave a comment. It's nice to read why the person is repping your post and see who is leaving you rep points.

Some people like to choose to remain anonymous, which is understandable. I personally choose to always sign my name, so anyone who gets rep points from me will get a message such as, "That was a really brave thing to share. Thanks! -- Seoul."

Unfortunately, the rep system can also have a dark side as well, as I've heard of some people using it as a way to leave some very unkind, anonymous comments. For example, I knew someone here once who received "rep points"... along with a comment that his posts were "boring" and that he "shouldn't even bother."

If you ever experience any kind of abusive action here, anonymous or not, I would highly recommend that you report it to the mods immediately, as they're very good about taking such things seriously. While there's not much that can be done about snarky comments, if it's ever abusive or clearly inappropriate, be sure to seek help from the site staff as soon as you can.

Meanwhile, I'm at work. I was in a hurry this morning so I put my hair up right out of the shower. 3 hours later I took it down, still wet.

Oh! And one last thing I forgot to mention about rep points as well...

The system automatically gives you a point for every 1,000 points you make.

So someone who has been here for 10 years and has made 10,000 posts will have 20 rep points--1 for every year they were here, and 1 for ever 1,000 posts they made. No one had to like, rep, or comment on any of their posts--these would be just the ones the system gave to them automatically.

Again, it's just a way of saying, "This person has been here a long time," and/or "has had a lot to say."

Hope this helps! Again, it's nothing to stress over or feel you're missing out just because someone has more rep than you do. You might just be starting out, but I have no more power here than you do, so feel free to join in on the fun.

Welp.. I just finished my workout and I was in a bathroom.. I heard the gym door open and someone walk in, etc. Probably 20 seconds later, I come out and no one is in the gym XD no car(other than my own) outside, nothing. That's the last time I go to the gym at night(not really lol).

I'm no expert, but if you finish your workout in the bathroom, you're probably doing it wrong!

Just found out that my mom watches the Today show and is a fan of matt lauer and al roker.... the only two celebs that I actually hate.

I'd been speaking english all my life and I've never heard of that word.

Speaking of bears, I'm reminded of the story of a couple who went out to a state park to go camping. The ranger warned them to look out for black bears and grizzlies. They asked how they could tell the difference between the two.

"Oh that's easy. If you see a bear and you run away and climb a tree, the black bear will climb up after you. The grizzly will just stand at the bottom and shake the tree until you fall out."

They stayed at a motel. >.>

Speaking of wild animals, I watched this video last night and laughed my head off when the guy asks the growling bobcat why its being mean to everybody.

I imagined the bobcat answering, "Ummm... because I'm a wild bobcat...?? DUH!"

I don't know what's more entertaining, the cat action or the sound of that camera zooming over and over. I never realized how loud that was until I lived with a phone for a video camera with the pinch/unpinch touch screen zoom.

Ya know, in all fairness to the bobcat, I realized that the long haired Maine Coon kitty must be quite an aggressive feline. He stares the bobcat right in the face and the bobcat yields to him, turning its glance away. The bobcat isn't growling in anger, he's complaining that the Maine Coon cat is the one who is mean!

Not only did the kitty not budge an inch when the bobcat jumped onto the counter, but it looked the bobcat square in the eyes which is very dominant alpha behavior. The Maine Coon also put its ears back and hissed & growled at the bobcat, which means he's just daring it to mess with him.

The bobcat kept yawning and trying to play, which cats tend to do late at night right before retiring for the evening. The long haired kitty wasn't in the mood for fun. In conclusion, the bobcat was not being mean at all. It was reacting in defense against the alpha behavior of the long haired cat.

And of course the dog stayed out of the whole thing because he knows cats are crazy and unpredictable at the midnight hour. LOLOL

Yes, I am the cat whisperer. =^..^= LOL!!
