Just been looking into some ways to make extra money lately, it's not that we have too, but just looking for ways to get a nice cushion in our funds. What do you guys do for a living or for making extra money. Also I work full time and my wife stays at home and she too has been looking for ideas for her self to make money, that wouldn't be taking to much time away from the kids. Or something that is really flexible because she stays at home with the kids. Thanks :)

For years I've been writing novels, and now I publish them as Amazon Kindle eBooks. I haven't sold many, though.

Become a youtube star. They make a lot of money, but you have to have like 100k subscribers first (but it might be less than that, I don't know).

This is NOT a get-rich scheme. It will take between 6 - 18 months before you see a single dime and 30-40 hours a week, but the hours are flexible -- any time, day, night or on weekends. It can be done by both of you when you have the time to do it. AND, if you put in the effort it could be your only job. This will get you to the point of making a couple extra bucks a month to six-figures.

Blog!

Blog what? What are you most passionate about? Better yet, what are you and the Mrs. most passionate about? You have children? (Nooooooooo! I am so not telling you to blog about your kids. lol) What do THEY like that you like too? If they're young, they might be into dinosaurs, dolls, action figures, or even Winnie the Pooh. If you're with them and you don't ever want them to grow out of that phase because deep-down, when no adults are looking, you know you like it as much as they do, then that's it! Do a blog about that. (Could be they like collecting rocks, baseball cards, string, anything. Anything at all as long as that is the favorite subject in the family.)

Or it could be what you love -- cars, video records, cell phones, new gadgets, copper--bottom pots, lakes in Eastern Ontario, wreathes, popcorn, barbecuing, etc. Anything you are so absolutely passionate about you could talk about it for hours -- years even! IF only you could find someone else up to talking with you.

My thing? Hint. Look at my avatar. Yupper. Teddy bears, but I'm not into collecting them, or who's who on the fancy-schmancy manufacturer's list. (I've ended up reading the history of teddy bears and even found a book of stories about them written for adults, but that's only because I really like teddy bears.) My into-teddy-bears started with taking a couple of teddy bears with us on a vacation once simply because vacation pictures look much better with a couple of teddy bears than it does with a couple of long-in-the-tooth, overweight adults hogging up the picture. But we didn't vacation that often. (Matter of fact, my avatar of the month was one of the last vacations we took in Cape May, although I didn't know it at the time.) So, my teddy bears needed a more adventurous life than we've had. And that's where much of my blog took me. The bears, (according to the blog, not reality) have made a hotel for wayward stuffies after Katrina hit, because some of their teddy bear blogging friends "weathered" that storm. (Honest. Blogging about teddy bears got me hooked into a community of people who blog as their stuffed animals, and one of the first I met was a woman who lived in the French Quarter and in real life, the flood flushed her right out of her apartment -- losing all her stuffed animals except her two teddy bears. So to support her, I blogged as if my bears really could help her, and even got Build-a-Bear to donate two NOLA Saint's football jerseys and helmets for her bears when they ended up being transferred to So. Cali. for a couple of years, until they made their way back home again.) They fought alongside another bear in London after the Tube was bombed. And they went Done-under to visit another bear who lives in Perth. None of this happened in reality, except there is a community of people who blog about their stuffies that we've connected with, so we all write as if the rest were real.

And that's what you do -- write about whatever you're passionate about, find other like-minded people to join in the community and connect, keep writing, keep fellowshipping, and you grow your audience. In joining in, you start learning SEO to get your blog on the top of the SERPs for keywords, and keep on going, until you get at least a steady flow of visits each month ranging in the 10's of thousands to 100's of thousands range to prove your site is worth visiting for whatever you're writing about. (You have to put in the effort to learn what SEO and SERPs mean, and then how to do it.)

And once you get there, it's time to approach marketers that sell something directly related to what you blog about, (and something you firmly endorse because it is part of your passion), and they will pay to advertise on your blog.

I was just getting to the 20,000 visits per month range when I decided I'd really rather write a novel and sell that. (Of course it's about teddy bears. lol) But in studying SEO I met others who made a living just doing that. Many were happy just to make $20,000 a year with their one blog. Some went higher. (One man, who was making a living with seven blogs, made an 8th one the day his son was born to pay for his son's college by the time he was ready for college. Just dawns on me. His son is old enough to be in college now. lol) And one man, who was 23 at the time, had 20 sites going at once, and was making six-figures a year.

Although you do have to keep working at it to grow the number of posts and to find people interested in it, after getting past that work in the beginning, and after getting enough sponsors to pay for the effort (advertisers), then to maintain it only takes regularly scheduled new posts (most go with 1-2 a week -- 100-250 word articles), and continuing to interact in the community of other like-minded people.

And the interacting isn't constantly talking about your blog. It's roughly what many of us do on here. Just talking, debating, or encouraging each other but with a signature that links to the blog, so people can go and check it out, if for no other reason then you sound like you know what you're talking about on the subject you're passionate about, so they want to learn more, because they too are passionate about it.

Like I said, it's not a get-rich scheme, but learn how and be willing to put in the effort and it is good side money after a while. PLUS you are enjoying your very favorite subject while doing it. And it doesn't hurt that it only takes $10 a year to get the proper URL for your blog. (You need to learn how before you do that, since that's part of the SEO process.)

Oh yes, a vlogger.
Put your whole life on youtube. Every meal you eat. Any nonsense thing you do. You become immensily popular with the kids. We have one guy, it's so stupid, but talk about it at the office and everyone knows him. Oh yes my kid always watches him.

You can become a movie star?
Apparently it doesn't require any real talent and it pays a lot?

Honestly, try an internet business or investing in one.
It can really pay off.

I have a buddy who made 25 grand selling DVDs online last Christmas.
I know? What is a DVD, and who buys them?

Nothing, I work parttime and that's enough. No savings. God will provide. He always does.

I put an extra $250 a month in my pocket by donating blood plasma. I donate 5 times a month at about 90 minutes per session.

Do you or your wife play any instruments or have any skills for crafts or anything you could teach by the hour to others? If you do you could advertise In the paper, local music store, wherever pretty much... On facebook if you have it, Ect. Also, if you live in an apartment complex or anything I know there are people who advertise their cleaning services to the older people where my grandmother lives, they printed out "business cards" and advertise with a colorful poster advertising their services in the mail room there... And I wouldn't begin to doubt that they do pretty decently from it. *Shrugs*

I started selling on ebay years ago...mostly jewelry, but I also sell other stuff that's in good condition that others might want. I started going to the thrift stores and purchasing nice items at a discount and then turn around and sell them on ebay for a profit. When I first started I was making about $50 a month, but then I got serious about it and posted at least 30 pieces at a time and I make anywhere from $200 to $500 a month depending on what I have selling. It doesn't take much time - just take plenty of photos, upload and write descriptions. The site is very user friendly. The only draw back is learning how to price your items so that you can make a profit since ebay and paypal take their share and learn how much to charge for shipping. I've been doing it for over 10 years and it's nice to have a little supplement to our income. Since I can no longer work and the burden falls on my hubby, this really helps. If you want more info - send me an email.

If there is something your wife knows how to make she can sell on Etsy. I am currently looking into making earrings and have been watching videos on youtube and reading about the different methods, like beading, or wire bending, etc. I want to pick something definite and go for it. I worked with a girl who was making nose rings and selling on Etsy and she began making so much that she quit her full time job, and has branched out into other types of jewelry. I went to a craft show recently and a lady in one of the booths sells on Etsy and says she does pretty good, not hundreds a month but she says it is worth it. Of course no matter what you would decide to make there are hundreds of others making it, so you would want to find the thing that is unique to your item. It's not a get rich scheme but for me if I made an extra $100-200 a month it would be wonderful. I work full time so I would have to do something that doesn't require hours for one item.
