I'm with ya, Willie-T. I read that passage, read the footnotes, read some commentaries--I do not conclude that Jesus Christ physically whipped human beings. I do conclude that he used the whip to drive the animals out of the temple--and, yes, the owners of the animals were also driven out of the temple... but I don't think this means Jesus whipped people.
Had I simply read the KJV and nothing else--ya, I might have drawn the conclusion that Jesus might have possibly whipped humans.
Yes, I did not post the whole of it. Here is some more, perhaps more pertinent to the other side of the issue and why it was brought up in the first place, for I think it was meant as a rebuke, as if telling the truth were not a loving thing to do.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Then there is the part I posted, verses 4-7. followed by 8-13:
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Thats ONE scripture. Care to post all the other characteristics of Love dealing with sin?1 John 4:16 ..... GOD IS LOVE ..... right smack in the middle of the verse.

And that is exactly what so many of us do..... we read one particular verse, selected from one particular translation, and try to make doctrine out of that....... without understanding all that is given to us for that full understanding in all the rest of the Bible.

And any honest reading of that passage from a real bible would make that quite evident...anyone think if they didn't get out that he would have not used that whip? Jesus is not like someones grandma that's cuts a switch just to make a vain threat.

When I hear you say "honest reading" -- it make me think you are accusing folks of being insincere.
"Real bible" -- It has been proven, time and time again, that the KJV is not perfect.
This is not to say that God's Word is not perfect--only that the KJV is not perfect.
Not everyone needs to be confronted with fire and brimestone in order to get them to repent. That's where prayer, discernment and being led of the Holy Spirit comes in. For it is not about I did this, or I did that it is about Christ and Him crucified. God is to get ALL Glory. God doesn't force Himself on anyone neither should we shove Him down anyones throat.

Charity- benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity

My intent was not to accuse--but to make aware.

Well..I have said before I am not a KJV only..guy...I prefer to use the Greek in any debatable passage ...but the NIV is a horrible translation
