Does anyone have one of these? I just bought one as a backup. Its used . I cant get the internet connection to stay on. Do these things need a flash drive or something. It may be a dumb question but I am just at my wits end. Thanks for any help techies!! From one non techie to a techie. lol

Thank you for replying addison. I managed to get online. I called my provider and the security format(wec and not wpa2) was formatted for me. Now I find out that this netbook has the old outdated version on internet explorer. Last day of use by windows vista was aug 2014. I tried installing FF and the netbook still wont let me go anywhere online. I am stopped with an error code. I bought the netbook online and it is used. The seller lied and said it worked great. yeah it worked great 2 yrs ago before everything loaded on it was outdated and literally barred from the net. Ill prob have to file a complaint with ebay and get a return. The seller is still lying to me about it working fine for him. Ill get my money back and crush his good standing with a bad review. Liars and cheats are the sum of the earth imo

What's the error code? Chances are the laptop is fine and it's just Microsoft Windows being Windows. Quick way to test it is to boot a LiveCD and see if the internet works. If it does then the computer is fine and you should be flaming and boycotting Microsoft while leaving the poor seller alone.

PCs running windows xp after april 8,2014 should not be considered as truly protected.
Support ended for windows xp on april 8th,2014. microsoft will no longer provide security updates.

This is all so over my head I dont even know what questions to ask! lol
Ill check the links out.

the error code I am getting is "secure connection failed"
error code: invalid ocsp
sec_error_ocsp_invalid_signing_cert

This is what the person I bought it from said to me after I told him I cant do anything really on this netbook.

It is an older computer with a small, but solid state hard drive. It is a perfect computer for travel due to its size and hard drive without moving parts. I never had issues with it not connecting. When I used it I added a 32gb sd card and ran self contained versions of programs off of that so that it didn't take up space

So is self contained a way to bring up things on the web without using what is on netbook? I know this sounds like I am a total dummie but in reality I AM.
Is this guy lying to me? I just dont see how he used it a week ago like he said he had when I cant even do a thing with it.
Any other laptop I have bought including my notebook, I was surfing the net asap.

I tried to go to ubuntu, com and I got the same error message as I previously showed here. I was able to actuallu go to a site I input only once. That was ebay. This computer is very unstable.

Most netbooks only have so much memory and system resources. I have a little netbook that I just use for docs, wireless testing and other my other nerdy stuff..

Yeah I only bought it for back up if something went wrong with my notebook. I do need to get online with a netbook which is the nature of my problem.

Windows on a netbook will be slow as molasses....go with Linux Mint 17.3 on a live usb boot stick...You can test almost any laptop b/c it (Linux Mint) already has generic drivers in place that work with 99% of hardware.....great OS to test hardware and to use imo.....

This error is because the root certificates are out of date or your system clock is way off. In non-complex terms, that means the operating system/software is too old to be used online because any link with HTTPS certs are all showing as expired. Generally making sure you use FireFox and have the correct date and time fixes this issue. (It's possible to manually install new CACerts as well, but we won't get into that)

Thank you for replying. What is OS?

Operating System.

Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and pretty much any other GNU/Linux distribution/operating system would be a nice fit for this older computer.
