Again, a compete contradiction that Satan no longer roams the earth.
1 Peter 5.8 is in complete harmony with the plethora of other scriptures that plainly state that Satan in presently bound.

No one builds a doctrine around one verse.....except islam, and other such cults...

I would think he is bound from entering the assembly of angels who have not left their first estate. As far as accusing the brethren with His lying sign and wonders it will go on till the end. The true sons of God, are led by the Spirit of Christ that dwells in them .Satan has fallen from that possibility when Christ said the words; it is finished.. he fell

When the devil is bound, there is peace, people do not wage war with each other,so the devil has not been bound yet,for people have been waging war all through history, and if they were not for a time,it would by chance, because they do like to war,and it was not for 1000 years period that they did not war.
What scripture makes this assertion?

from what I can gather on this thread, it seems that those who say satan is bound give two major effects of that binding.

that people now have the option of being freed from the fear of death,

and that there is less evil in the world now than there will be in the future.

all the christians I've met would probably agree with both those ideas, that people can be freed by Jesus and things will be worse at some time in the future.

so aside from which term is used (bound or unbound) is there something significant to decide here? something that will impact our daily lives?

maybe there is, and I just don't see it yet?

Brother Dan_473,

We are waiting, hoping, longing, desperate, running toward, His appearing and the resurrection of our loved ones.

We search the scriptures for any clue to this event.

It is not hidden, it is "revealed", (Revelation)

The victory over death should impact every facet of our daily life, giving us courage and strength.

The appearing of Jesus and our meeting Him in the air, gives us hope that no one else can have.

Searching the scriptures, faith, hope, courage, strength, and love, gives us the power to destroy the principals and power of our enemy, the one without love, Satan.

Who can fill a broken heart with love? Ease spiritual pain? Give us REAL hope, faith. Only Jesus.

So we search, yes, with anticipation, longing, for the fulfillment of our faith.

I believe that the finish line is close, we can see it from where we are now.

Perhaps only a few years(?) away.

How will it effect your daily life, when your daily life becomes your eternal life?

I can't wait to get there!

Brother John

Is 'day' significant from 'night', Dan...?

The entire Holy Bible is one giant story telling us why we are here in the first place.

Satan, the first sinner, is why we are here to begin with....so, yes, we need to understand the significance of why Jesus needed to come to our rescue, and how He has allowed the first sinner to be contained that that we may have eternal life over eternal death.

I would say that is the most significant thing.........ever!

Brother Bowman,

The "binding" of the dragon with a "great chain", Rev 20,

Trying to keep this in the context of Rev 20, what is your understanding of the word "chain", why chain?

This is a stellar example of a thread that needs to be shut down! Preterism is heresy! It is the one eschatology view that MOST agree is heresy. It is harmful. It is making the babes stumble. This heresy robs the church of its blessed hope! You will be held accountable for adding to Gods words. Gods warning in rev is pertaining to this.

This man has asked repeatedly for someone to back up with scripture, their convictions. None have.. He's given scripture to show satan was bound when Jesus was crucified and died.

ahh, I see I wasn't clear about the impacting our daily lives.

I mean the difference between two christians, one uses the word "bound" to describe the present state of satan, the other uses "unbound"... is there a difference in how they would live their lives?

suppose two christians. one exegetes the scriptures such that they come to think that the english word "bound" best describes the current state of satan.

the other exegetes the scriptures such that they come to think that the english word "unbound" best describes the current state of satan.

will there be a significant difference between how each lives the christian life?

Brother Dan_473,

What if you knew WHEN Jesus would appear, (close estimate, 3-4 yrs). I mean fairly sure (Bible based).

What would you do?

Noah built an ark when his world came to an end.

Our "ark" is Jesus. Get everybody in to the "ark" that you can.

The context of the term "bound" is everything.

The chain shows us that Satan can attack, but he is "limited" by the "chain".

How is he limited?

He cannot deceive the nations.

The rest of the passage must be included in the understanding of the "deceiving".

He cannot deceive the nations of Magog to surround Jerusalem and the camp of the saints.

That is how he is restrained.

To add other conditions, out of context, may need evaluation and study before accepting them into the understanding of this passage.

Can the dragon deceive Magog right now, into surrounding Jerusalem and the camp of the saints?

The time is here, if we remain, we will see it.

If you see Jerusalem surrounded by enemies and about to fall,

Will that change your daily life?

No, not at all... This is why smart teachers tell students, don't worry about revelation that much for now. We should worry about Jesus and His message of salvation through Him. This stuff seems exciting though, so it's like a moth to flame. But to question people's salvation is a completely unbiblical rebuttal.

Hello Brainfreeze,

No, not at all... This is why smart teachers tell students, don't worry about revelation that much for now.
I would have to greatly disagree with you here. For right in the beginning of the book of Revelation we are told the following:

"This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John, who testifies to everything he saw. This is the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ."

"Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and guard what is written in it, because the time is near."

In the scriptures above, it is stated that God the Father gave this information to Jesus who sent His angel to John, who was told to write it down so that "we" his servants, could have this information. Then in the next verse there is a blessing for those who read the words of this book of prophecy and those who hear it and guard what is written. Then regarding this book of Revelation, you have Jesus stating the following:

"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”

And at the end of the book we read the following:

"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll."

Conclusion: The book of Revelation is not a book that God wants us to ignore, for he gave the information to Jesus who sent his angel to John to write down everything he saw and heard so that we would have this information, especially for those who are close to all of these events that are about to take place. Revelation is the grand central station of the Bible!

You are one of the babes that has stumbled.

Which btw, alot of scripture has been provided that does refute this blasphemous heresy!

People have eyes but do not see
People have ears but do not hear

20"Declare this in the house of Jacob And proclaim it in Judah, saying, 21Now hear this, O foolish and senseless people, Who have eyes but do not see; Who have ears but do not hear. 22'Do you not fear Me?' declares the LORD. 'Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, An eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it. Though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail; Though they roar, yet they cannot cross over it.…

Mark 4:12
so that, 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven.'"

I did not say ignore, Mr.ahwatukee I said to student (babes in Christ) that they should spend more time of understanding the Gospels and Paul before venturing into revelations. Even if they did (student/new to the faith) they won't understand it. Can we agree there? Do you remember being a new christian trying to read revelations ... with dragons, horns, and vials? So I'm not saying to ignore it, I'm just saying it will confuse a new christian if led to try to read and understand Revelation.

I would say the most significant thing is what Jesus did on the cross for us (coming to our rescue) I do agree, understanding the whole story is important though.

if I had a 3-4 year window of when Jesus would return, no, that wouldn't make a difference in how I lived.

I believe we should live as though the Master will return at a time that we don't expect Him... meaning always expect, always watch... live expecting Him to return this minute.

yes, I agree that the thing to be concerned about is Jesus and His message of salvation through Him. Amen to that.
