You can believe in whatever you like, but I believe in the One who those words testify of.

John 5:39-40

'You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.
Jesus is the eternal life that was with the Father, the Father gave us him, he has the words of eternal life

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

1 John 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us

H has the words of eternal life

Luke 6:47 Shows a man that cometh to him (which both hears does his words) is the wise which laid his foundation on a rock

But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Jesus said abide in me and my words in you and speaks of being ashamed of either him or his words or rejecting either him or his words, as the word given him of the Father (that which he had spoken) is that which would judge such a one on the last day (John 12:48)
That's right, Jesus said why do you call me Lord, but yet do not the things which I say?

it is one thing to say we are righteous when we walk after the spirit. it is a far other to say we do this 24/7 365 days a year!!
I disagree. I always walk after the Spirit.....it's just sometimes I fall far behind Him....He takes big steps. ;)

"Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." Gal 5:25

The verse earlier even says,

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

What's He saying you should do?

Thats right. Now don't make the mistake so many do and invert that to say "don't fulfill the lust of the flesh and then you will be walking in the Spirit."

Are you walking after the Spirit or the flesh??
Amen.....just taking one scripture by itself is mis-leading sometimes....when you go on from Romans 8:4 and it is saying about the flesh and walking according to it because they are in the flesh. - it is a condition or state of being.

This is talking about unbelievers who are still in the flesh. And then believers who are in the spirit. The understanding of terms is important. People are either in the flesh or in the spirit. The term "to walk" just means the sphere or state of being that we are in.

Romans 8:9-10 (NASB)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

[SUP]10 [/SUP] If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

That one?

Yep. That's the one.

Galatians 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

Hello Grandpa,

The law is what brings people to Christ.

Why would Christ abolish the very instrument designed to bring people to Him?
Christ didn't abolish the law, He fulfilled it. Something that human beings are unable to do. He met the righteous requirements of the law on our behalf, fulfilling it and bringing it to its end. The power of sin is the law. By meeting the requirements of the law and paying the penalty for our sins, Christ disarmed the powers of darkness, for the law was their ammunition against humanity. I like the way the NLT translates it:

" For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

"So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

That is a great scripture to having our minds renewed to who we are in Christ because "by the spirit" means to be who you already are in Christ. If we don't live by the spirit we will not experience life here on this earth.

Works-based salvationists like to use this to try to justify their man-made rules for being saved and going to heaven to be with the Lord.

In order to see that manifested in our lives - we must believe we are saved by grace through faith only and that all of our sins are forgiven.

If not we just have another religion based on a behavior modification program.

Romans 8:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

I just showed Jesus is eternal life
Jesus is the eternal life that was with the Father,

(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness,
and
shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us)

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true,

and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God, and eternal life.

That eternal life, which was with the Father,

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:

and they are they which testify of me.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Again,

(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us)

Abraham not only believed in God, but Abraham also believed in the words of God. :)
Same thing.....:)

It's a good thing Abraham didn't just go by the last thing God said or Isaac would have been killed.

If we don't rightly divide the word between what God said in the past and what God is saying now in His Son's perfect, completed work - we'll create all kinds of weird teachings....we are saved by grace through faith alone...not in any rule keeping....that is anti-Christ/anti-the gospel doctrine.
