I think this is where other Christians can come to help others with Auto Repair expenses. Good or bad idea?
We as Christians should come together as a family to help others less fortunate...

o i thought you had a question, and i was going to see if i could help ;)

yes, i think it's a good idea. i'm only a 'shadetree mechanic' and my knowledge is pretty much limited to whatever has broken down on my own cars, because i always try to fix them myself if possible. but i know - because over the couple of years i've been here, there actually have been a few posts i've seen about specific car problems - that there are some people here who are/were professional auto repairmen, and others who know alot about car problems in general.

in whatever areas we have gifts or experience, we should use those to bless each other :)

Cool! So hubby and I are living with a 1995 Saturn whose differential bearing is going. Fixing that will cost more than the car itself is worth, but we can't ever afford another new car.

Are you volunteering to give us a new car for free, or did you just hope someone else would pay for whatever car expense you have?

(Major hint: This site really doesn't tolerate people asking for money. If that's the only reason you came here, might as well keep looking. The only sites that would let you beg from strangers are sites where people come to scam people out of their money all the time, so no one else visits them.)

whoah blind post did not even read the word "expenses" in the OP.

what i meant was "a good idea" was helping each other with advice and possible diagnosis.
not asking for donations.
**hopes that is not what this is about**

Yes sir! I agree... my truck does have a few things needing fixed but none serious at the time. Not looking to scan or get scammed but for a Christian community to come together to help one another.

well, judging from TxFireman's introduction --

I'm new here... seeking friends, prayer and financial assistance. Thanks and God Bless

i see how that God in His perfect knowledge has made us all one body with talents that complement each other, for example some elder sister may be blessed with reading comprehension skills and discernment that i lack, so that as one people united in Him we are complete :)

TxFireman, as one of the largest and most active Christian forums on the internet, and with Christians' reputation for generosity and also naivety, this place could easily become a target for people seeking to take advantage of others to get money.
Depleted is right; it's not appropriate. if you need financial help, i suggest looking to people you know personally in real life, and if God is tightening your belt, submit to Him and look at your life what you may be spending money on that are not actual *needs* but in reality serving lusts. it may be that if you cut extravagance out of your budget that you can afford what you think you cannot. i don't know your situation and i'm not asking for details of it; just general advice.

oh and relevant to what i thought this thread was about when i saw the title -- you know, most of car repair expense is labor. if you've got a socket set, some jackstands and a weekend, you can probably fix it yourself, whatever it is, and save hundreds of dollars. most chain auto parts stores like autozone, advance, o'reilly etc have free loaner specialty tools if you need them, and the internet is a fantastic source for step-by-step instructions for how to fix cars and trucks, if you just do a little digging.

It's a terrible idea for two reasons:

A) Neither myself nor CC are against the idea of Christians helping each other however I encourage people to do it within their own real world community instead of the virtual community for a multitude of reasons the largest of which is the reduction of the possibility of wasting money on a scammer.

B) it violates site policies regarding soliciting for money

Yes, this is part of why Christianity needs to be lived out in the context of the local fellowship. We don't know about the character of individuals who claim to need help.
