in another forum, i just saw how it took an unbeliever to point out that there is a difference between "debate" and "sincere dialogue"

i doubt that man himself had an inkling of what he was doing, but God was using him to rebuke believers and explain with one simple sentence the difference between what those who are blinded believe, and what the actual gospel of Jesus Christ is. He speaks even to us today by a people with a strange tongue & stammering lips!

the condemnation and judgement of the false teachers - like the pharisees - is "
debate"
the living mercy and grace of God has been expressed to us in the person of Jesus Christ - it is "
sincere dialogue"

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

(Isaiah 1:18-20)

I mean that many people actually convince themselves that their mission is to tell people what horrible sinners they are, often before even finding out what the person's name is. And this is just the opposite of what Jesus did. Remember how He was constantly accused of being a friend of sinners by the self-righteous people who were telling those same sinners how they were going to burn?

That is because He truly WAS a friend to the sinners.
Without repentance, there is no salvation. If you love them, you will warn them. We are called to inform them of the consequences of putting off their decision for too long. We are called to speak the full truth, not the just the pleasant half.

I wasnt aware a song trumped Gods word! LOL

Being eternally separated from God is WRATH. The lake of fire is WRATH.
I can't believe that anyone who considers oneself a Christian can disagree with this. Do those who reject the Gospel go to hell, or don't they?

And this is what the Hellfire & Brimstone people neglect to the extreme.

A friend of mine wrote this perspective on "The Great Commission": This is just a small part of his book, but I find it intriguing.

THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” -MATTHEW 9: 35-38

Unless you’ve never darkened the door of a church in your life, the above scripture is one you’ve heard expounded upon a million and one times. It is often used to stir up missionary zeal and encourage people to get out and “win the lost”, for, as the verse states, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. We picture Jesus looking upon the throngs of humanity that are cascading into a fiery chasm of eternal punishment, and then turning to His disciples and urging them to go forth and reap a harvest for the Lord! The only problem is that nowhere is hell or judgment mentioned in this passage. Jesus is not commanding His disciples to pray for the raising up of Gospel laborers so that they can warn men of hell, but because “he saw the crowds… had compassion on them… because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd”. When Jesus looked upon the crowds He saw their pain, misery, and confusion, and longed to see them impacted by the Good News of the Kingdom. This Good News included healing the sick, and telling men of the love and Grace of His Father.

What is my point? My point is that Christ’s primary concern was not for us to go into the world and warn them of a burning hell, but for us to take Good News, coupled with hope and healing, to a harassed and helpless humanity. The backbone of our message is not fear and terror, but freedom, hope, and healing. To miss this is to miss the Gospel. Jesus did not run about the countryside in a sandwich board, screaming “turn or burn” at every passerby. He went about “doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil” (Acts 10: 38). It was these very things that He saw the world as being in need of, and it can be assumed, therefore, that these are the works He desires for His “laborers” to carry out. The world does not need a red faced, angry preacher scolding them for their secret sins. They need a compassionate shepherd who will help to lead them out of the fog of confusion and pain that they live in constantly. Jesus saw this, and the compassion that propelled His ministry arose from His knowledge of humanity’s pain. His message was Good News, and it brought hope, healing, comfort and clarity to those who believed it.

Such a message is universal and never expires! Humanity has spoken the language of love from day one, and will never cease to understand it. Messages of fear, judgment, and a retributive god, however, are things that the world has outgrown and humanity is no longer moved by their mention. The world has wised up, and they see the flawed nature of the message we’ve peddled. We must change or become irrelevant relics of the past. It is not that we must tailor ourselves to our culture and compromise the Gospel. No, we must return to the real Gospel - to the Gospel that Jesus and the apostles preached. It may look quite different from Mr. Edwards’ terrifying tour through God’s “little shop of horrors”, but it may also actually work and set people free to live as God intended.

It’s time to recapture the true essence and heart of the Gospel, which is much more about spiritual health than it is separation and hell. The world is ready for such a message, but they, along with Jesus, have very little time for the message of an angry God who callously dangles those who would dare to defy Him over a molten pool of eternal damnation. As the old movie The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat no longer moves crowds to panic, so Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God no longer moves the world to conversion. If our message has an expiration date, it simply can’t be perfect, and if it isn’t perfect it can’t be the Gospel.
Amen Willie my brother. I love love love this. Thanks for sharing xxxx

I agree. The message of God's love has been neglected by some.
I believe preaching one without the other is useless. And I believe either can be (and often IS) over-emphasized, to almost the exclusion of the other.

I should have his full book in Word format within a few weeks. I'll try to remember to offer it if anyone would care to read it. Or, it can be purchased online without the proofing I am now doing.

Jesus - a stranger who walked in the front door.

If you met Jesus what would you say? He is just a man, where is all the grandeur, the pomp, the self serving, the angels falling down, the obvious difference. How can people who do not know love or what they have given up in their own pride, understand the difference of walking with the King?

How can the lost not just feel a difference but not be aware of its source or foundation?

The lake of fire is a place you do not want to go, but where is the open door?

To those who say we have everything in Christ without walking, is a baby an athlete who can run 100m in less than 10 seconds? The Kingdom has always been about the walk, and nothing else. Wake up, no walk , no communion.
Are you alive if you stop breathing?

If you stand in rebellion against the King, how can you claim to have the gift of Life? If rebellion bothers you, troubles your heart, God is still with you, take heart, His love will work its way through you.

I wonder at some of those here who are preaching and saying they know the King of Kings but get such fundamental concepts so wrong. There is a reason why some sincere leaders have known see deep truths yet got Gods will and intentions wrong, are no longer with us. He is the ruler and His will works through all who are called to His Kingdom.

Hi Willie your OP reminded me of something I had forgotten about.

There is a lot of open air evangelism in the city I live. Pop into the city centre on
Saturdays especially and there will be at least 2 or 3 groups with megaphones,
guitars and tracts preaching the gospel.

A couple of years ago when I had more time on my hands I did voluntary work
for a city mission group who are a Christian charity. They get involved in many things
including the Saturday city preaching which I attended and supported.

The message was usually one of sin, grace, forgiveness, the love of God etc.

But then one person started coming he was a "you are all doomed, damned and going to
hell" type of speaker. We use to joke that he would be there with a pitch fork helping
people into the pit. :p

Anyway one of the set of tracts we gave out, was titled "The stupid preacher" !

I can't remember exactly what it said but it used humour and a bit of good old fashioned
irony to get the gospel message across.

So whenever this fire and brimstone preacher wanted to speak, we use to give out these
tracts!

It might have seemed to some to be a bit of an own goal, but you know what they were all
accepted and none were just thrown on the ground like some of the others. Lol

The British sense of humour can be very dry and full of irony and people use to
see the title and have a bit of a chuckle as they listened to this person speaking.
Yes we often face palmed at his words and cringed, but him plus that specific tract made
for a brilliant gospel message double act.:)

It's called Saints In The Arms of a Happy God. It will be a couple of weeks before I will have the WORD format copy completed. But, it is not that expensive online.
