When people say repent I don't think of it as turning from sin or changing my mind. Though it could be comprised of both of those things.

I think of repenting as turning away from my ways, turning away from my strength and will and turning to Christ and His Strength. Turning back to Christ. Because I was already there but somehow I forgot and started trying to do it on my own.

we are to draw people to Christ, not shove them away with judgement.[/QUOTE]So am I wrong that you feed the joel empire along with the warren and prince empires as well? Hmmm.

Loving people doesnt include tickling ears. 2Tim 4:3each the Word
…2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.…

To turn from sin and to change your mind mean the same thing..
That's not true, One can change there mind about something, and still struggle with it. Does that mean they have not repented? NO

Change ones mind, means that, To change your view 180 degrees.

Repentance came before all of that when John and Jesus simply proclaimed the coming kingdom of GOD. Their first words were, repent. And people came and confessed their sins.
they confessed their sin BECAUSE they repented.

Two different acts, One led to another.

I have been thinking about this true meaning of repenting and it is changing our mind as we learn new aspects of God's love and grace towards us in Christ.

I think we will be "repenting" throughout eternity as we see new aspects of our Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord! I love repenting. It's a major blessing from our Lord!

Ephesians 2:7 (NASB)
[SUP]7 [/SUP] so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

That sounds like "hyper repenting" to me....hey I coined a new phrase...let's all start promoting "hyper repenting" for the body of Christ!.....:D
You asked for it. You always do.

The ultimate end of all Gnosis is metanoia, or repentance, the undoing of the sin of material existence and the return to the Pleroma [i.e., the fullness of heaven].

In other words, the gnostic heretic idea of repentance was to always be conscious of the divine spark within them. That to them was salvation. Salvation by gnosis, i.e., knowing the divine within.

This is a great topic ember! Another thought that comes to many people's minds as I've noticed here is the part about God's judgment and wrath. There are those here who don't know there IS no more judgment and wrath or guilt or shame for the child of God even while we are repenting.

Jesus took all of that for us when He died on the cross. Yet there are those who keep trying to take some of it too when they sin. They don't know they can't take ANY OF IT AWAY by their feelings of sorrow or regret. Those feelings of guilt and trying to remedy it can't help spiritually. That is unsaved man's solution. We are not unsaved anymore. We go another way by denying the flesh in these matters as well.

Many don't apply this truth when they "repent" Changing your mind to align with God's truth can be at times hard when we think of how stupid we were when we didn't believe Him in the first place. I've often times told the Lord how sorry I am for not listening or not walking accordingly in the knowledge of all the love He has for me.

So in that I have regrets at the time I realize what I've done., but God has forgiven me already for that and then again I'm reminded of who I am in Christ and in seconds JOYFUL and re-charged again by the knowledge of His grace and truth. Now I can keep on keeping on without the snares of human sorrow that is not like Godly sorrow.

Godly sorrow brings some major good stuff!! Human sorrow has shame and guilt and a standing back away from God. When God's repentance shows us the truth of our NEED TO COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE TO FIND GRACE AND HELP IN TIME OF NEED!

He gives us fresh revelations each time we believe in the ones He gave before.

Does this mean we are free from feeling condemned all the time? Not me. It takes a fresh load of re-acquainting myself over again about the love of God In Christ. The unmerited favor I have because of Jesus. It is like the Bible says - it's what lifts us up from the dead!

I must hear it and think about it when I go to bed and when I wake up. I put it on my tv on DVD and VHS tapes. I must read about it in the morning and write about it in the evening. I need to listen to it in my car and always keep it before my mind's eyes and ears and heart.

I come here on CC to re think and share it on these forums. The love of God is what will get us through and cause us to have faith in the One who first gave it to us. But our natural minds see the world and we have to make a choice of what eyes we use when we think about life here. Heb.11:1
11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

Much like those old testament saints who kept the Word on the door posts of their houses so they saw it and were reminded it of it over and over again. That is what we need to do. Or at least that is what I have to do. Because humans are so needy we need to always see Jesus and who we are IN Him. Then we will bear lots of fruit. That is what abiding is., seeing Jesus and our position in Him. True abiding like John 15:5 says. Without Him we can do nothing.

HRFTD stated all this prior on this right here

Provide the evidences he hears, PeterJens chimes in off of this saying,

And you were one of those providing the same follow up evidences back then
concerning "legalists"

Shows HRFTD was telling the truth as the same is here on the D.I.Y thread opened by the same one

And ofcourse (below) is HRFTD is there responding to the same (on the same thread) here after

Even today here it is again the whole D.I.Y thing HRFTD was speaking of way back and the same
evidences asked for earlier on keep coming while he gets reported

And here we go again with the D.I.Y (same thread)

And HRFTD has said nothing concerning it as he has passed over it.

(And I just needed to post this, to mark this spot and resave it)

I have said, Every time HRFTD tries to bring Gnosticism into any conversion, I will report him.

There is absolutely no need tot HRFTD to bring gnostic thought into every discussion people have.

I have stated my case, I will continue to do what I said I would do until I am told to stop. Or HRFTD stops bring this gnostic crap over and over

Its up to him.

He has been doing it for well over a year now and it is old..

You're a false accuser on so many levels. For one, I've only been studying the gnostic heresy for several months, but that becomes over a year to you.

Gnosticism was a Christian heresy, so it is quite appropriate to discuss, whether you like it or not. Try adding something to the discussion instead of being a whiny pain in the neck to the moderators.

Your gnostic crap for everyone who teaches grace is for the birds. There is absolutely no need for you to bring that in here. all it does is cause division and hate, Your attacking people every time you do that. especially if they are not basing their faith on gnostic belief.

Gnosticism is not a Christian heresy, It has nothing to do with the Christian faith, It is a belief in the spiritual world. And a believe that knowledge is what is important, not faith, not walking, not anything

Nothing Grace777 or people like him even closely resembles Gnosticism.. It is time to move on from that strawman argument..

Gnosticism began as Christian heresy. The earliest records we have of it are from the early church fathers who spent so much time and effort battling its subversive influence on the Christian faith. 1 John is full of refutations of gnostic teachings. So it has been part of the church from the beginning. And it's still with us.

So, have you been cornered and told you need to repent? Has someone waved a big scary Family Edition Sized, gold leaf bound, ink on vellum leather bound Bible in your face or possibly hit you over the head with it?

Has someone told you that you are going to hell unless you repent even though you do believe that Christ died for you?

Have you done your Jim dandy bestest to repent and still find your feet dragging up to the altar every time the call goes out for repentance?

Do you promise yourself you will not commit that sin again or possibly just stop sinning altogether every time you get yelled at in church by an itinerant Evangelist or Mrs. Clout prays for 45 minutes at the Wednesday night prayer meeting and you fall asleep and fall off your chair and she points at you as you wake up and shrills 'there! that is what I am talking about?'

well, the reason you keep flailing and failing is a lack of understanding of what repent actually means and what the event actually entails

Many understand the term repentance (from the Greek word metanoia) to mean “turning from sin.” This is not the biblical definition of repentance. In the Bible, the word repent means “to change one’s mind.” The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions (Luke 3:8-14; Acts 3:19). Acts 26:20 declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action. (source)

couldn't agree more, probably the best post on repentance ive read on this site. I would say that warnings can be taken as an attack, or as a good thing. If I'm going down a road and see signs saying " danger ahead".....I consider it to be intended to save my life, and not an oppressive judgement. sometimes the idea " repentance isn't necessary" is the issue, to have the mind set " my actions don't matter".....and that mindset stems from omitting the warnings intended to safeguard our lives. if repentance was understood as you have put it here would definitely help matters. belief leads to action. faith leads to action. our minds are changed by believing what is there, the blessings, and the warnings of danger ahead.

excellent post, thank you for taking the time

The fruits of repentance will lead to a Spirit-filled directed life manifesting the love and grace of Christ that is in our spirits now because we are new creations in Him.

Living from the life of Jesus that is in us will lead us to a completely different life totally depended on Him alone for salvation and life. This is the fruit of repentance and it is a work of God in our lives. Repent - change the way you think and trust in what Christ has already done alone for salvation and life in His finished work.

The proper renewing of the mind in the grace and love of God for us is paramount for growing up in Christ.
