What do you guys think of speaking in tongues? I know that some denomonations dont believe in it and some people just think it is silly. I think that it is a gift of the spirit and I am realy unsure if people in the "big" churches that have whole congregations doing it are "Realy" using a gift of God or just mistaking it for something else.

The Bible talks about it in Acts and says that the Holy Spirit "came over" the people uncontrolably. What do you think?

I agree with you dude. A lot of people either take it as a crazy religious person speaking of non sense or just for something else. It IS a gift that is given to some of us through the Holy Ghost.

Yeah, I speak in tongue when I'm really led by worship, it's really revealing! Like in a way, it brings you to a certain place of your mind, where your like, "Wo" lol idk but I hate it when other Christians or denominations are taking speaking of the tongue as a religious thing that only Holy pastors can do or whatever or some of them take it as a demonic language. Ahh, whatever lol

Personally, I have never spoken in tongues but I believe that some day God will teach me. And with my luck, i'll be in the middle of wal-mart having a conversation about the weather with a stranger or something. :p

hahahahahha that was hilarious my friend, however GOD being so personal in our relationship with HIM probably wouldn't do this to you or with you.....

Quite honestly though, tongues is a language given for various reasons.........I let you discover some of those meanings between You and Your LORD, but I will list two of the reasons here......

We are spirits, with a soul ........(mind, will and emotions) and we temporarily live in these bodies........And this aspect of the use of HEAVENS LANGUAGES........or Diverse Tongues as it is written in The Word, is for your spirit to commune with The SPIRIT of GOD, without your other parts interfering ..........For example: If your mind has not been RENEWED yet, as taught in ROMANS 12 1+2- Well then your spirit actually bypasses the potential for distraction from your thoughts..........

Secondly- This language is given to you because the Enemy does not know it. Remember who we are dealing with here.............Lucifer was in the Garden of GOD in the very beginning.........When Adam and Eve fell. Well he knows every language there is on planet Earth . However, he doesn't know this particular language that is given to you by GOD HIMSELF. This is the privacy of Our GOD loving you and me, and providing a private conversation media for you and HIM...............Isn't that cool or what.

I'll let you discover for yourself, the other reasons, because these will come with use. Besides, you'll want to enjoy this with Your GOD.

Dear Brother,

I have spoken in tongues. It is very real. There is the gift of speaking in tongues then there is praying/worshipping in tongues. The gift isn't given to everyone who believes but praying in tongues is.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

This refers to praying in tongues, but not the gift of tongues.

Most of the conregation at my church speaks in tongues, it is the evidence of the Holy Ghost.

It's not hard to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, keep seeking and surrender yourself to him, once you surrender yourself to him completely you will have no problem speaking in tongues. Hope to hear from you when you do it!

I believe in speaking in tongues, i do it in my prayer life and to build myself up, and have had a couple of cool spiritual experiences with the gift. I once was asked by the Holy Spirit to pray for a friend in a busy cafe, and then He said to pray in tongues. I told my friend who wasnt a christian but had seen my dramatic conversion and life change only a month or so earlier, and he agreed to it. Earlier that night I had been witnessing to some work mates and by the time i got to the cafe i felt like i had electricity charging through my body, and a strong presence of God. When i began to pray in tongues it was REALLY fluent and powerful and i could feel it coming out of my mouth like i could bite down on it! and then i felt all of the electricity that was in my body rush down my arms towards my friend. It was a really powerful hardcore experience and my friend was blown away - ultimately it played a large part in His conversion a few years later. Ive never had another experience with tongues that amazing but the gift is definately a blessing to my life and walk with God, and there is plenty of scriptural support for it.

Can help to have a leader pray with you too Dothackzero, to pray for the infilling of the Holy Spirt - if u have received that yet, or just to help you in pray towards speaking in another tongue. It is a very powerful gift ;)

I suspect it would be a worse experience to start speaking in tongues and realize you're speaking French. ;)

I think I know someone I could pray with about it... I'll try it tomorrow...

Also is it possible to get the Gift of Tonuges if you blasphemed the Spirit? Just wondering, I think my ocd is acting up again about...

Everyone wants to have the "gift" of babbling incoherently but no-one seems to want the gift of being able to go to a foreign country and miraculously speak the native language there and evangelise to them, which would actually be useful.

Even though I don't know you, I personally don't think you have blasphemed the Holy Ghost(Spirit).

As far as I know, no one knows truly what this is. It is however the UNFORGIVABLE thing to do.

What I think it is, is what Lucifer did to God. When you have such a close relationship with God, and have walked with him for sooo long, and then just decide to do a 180 and do the opposite.
I don't think it is something we can accidentally do, I think it is a conscious decision that we make.

Peter(? I always get Peter and Paul mixed up...) Denied Christ Jesus three times, yet he went and did great works for God.

Speaking in toungues is something they mention in the bible The new testament.

1 corintians 14:27-28

27. If anyone speaks in a toungue, it should be by two, or at the most, three, and in turn, and one should interpret;

28. But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church, and speak to himself and to God.

That's only a small part though. We speak in tongues in my church, we're edifying God, and praying the perfect prayer. Some people think that this means that you shouldn't speak in tongues while you're at Church. But if the Spirit overcomes you, and you speak in tongues, then you are doing as God pleases, as it is HIS Spirit telling you to do so, and if you don't then you are being disobediant to God and defying him.

I do speak in tonques God bless me with this gifts, i did enjoy it as u dont feel anything , u are just in spirit. Speaking in tonques is the best experience of my life. Hallelujah
