Romans 7:21 say I find then a law that When I want to do good evil Is present with me. As a Christian we know what's right, we know the word, at least most of us should. We know what we should be doing but yet and still we at times seem to fall short.. Why is that? Is the evil that's present with us more natural to do than the good that we know we should be doing?
 
It's our nature to sin. We are not yet perfect, and we are weak, so sometimes we can screw up and don't follow the holy spirit. It takes an act of the will and effort to do what is right (supernatural) and go against our natural tendencies. To do what's wrong takes no effort whatsoever, just go with the flow.
 
@herosefromthedead...That is so true..because just say that we are always choosing to do right..which is not likely but just say we do..then wouldn't we all be walking around in self righteousness..or yet and still thinking it was our on good works that is saving us..and therefore there would be no need for Jesus...
 
A lot of people try to use Romans 7 as an excuse for ongoing sin, but that is not what Paul was saying. If you read Romans 6 and 8 you will see how Jesus Christ sets us free from this condition when we are born again of the Spirit. Here is a thread I wrote on it, read post #1 and #2 to see what Paul was saying how we can be set free from that carnal sinful nature, and the law of sin and death.

It seems that it becomes gradually easier to avoid sin, as we grow and mature in our walk with God. The more we become like Jesus, the easier it is.

But, we will never get rid of that "natural man" sin nature..... thank God that we do not have any worries about our salvation, though.
 
@inspiritintruth...you are right people will try to use that scripture to justify them not living right...but that scripture actually reminds us that we still have this sin nature..
 
@hornetguy yesss sir...thank God that our salvation is still in tact...but yes as we grow in God it does get easier to avoid sin...but as you said that old sin nature is still In waiting...the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak..

One thing I've found is that as you practice righteousness, it becomes easier. Just like doing something over and over to the point that it becomes habit, and becomes almost a natural response.
 
Sin is greater than our 'will power' unless...that will turns to our crucified, risen and living Lord through the Holy Spirit.

Also the temptations grow stronger as our faith grows...

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
(1Co 10:12-13)

That's what carnally minded men will tell you, but it is not what happens when you are born again and made a new creation in Jesus Christ, and put on His nature. When a person is truly born again of the Spirit, they put to death the old Adam and man of sin by the power of the Holy Spirit, and put on the new man in Christ. The old nature and sinful ways should dead and passed away.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Often, I fall short too. I don't believe that it is because evil is within us but rather an inclination to put our wants first instead of the needs of others. We should pray daily for the strength and the courage to do what is right in the eyes of God. I want to do what is right but it becomes easy after awhile to let opportunities to serve God slip by time and again. Eventually, time will run out and my record will speak for itself, good or bad.
 
@tourist...I think that God knows the intent of our heart's..he knows whether we really are trying to do what's right even when we miss the mark.. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God...were not perfect but forgiven..does that mean we continue in sin...NO it doesn't But it does mean when we fall..and we will..that we have a savior that died for that to...his Grace is sufficient..we are all a work in progress...especially our character and integrity..
 
I will add this though, when you first receive the Holy Spirit and are born again there will be a fight that immediately takes place between the old man sin nature and the new man in Christ, or between the flesh and the Spirit. But by the Holy Spirit we are empowered to overcome all the lusts of the flesh, overcome the world, and overcome that Wicked; if we resist and fight the good fight by faith.

If you keep on resisting the Devil he will flee from you as is written. Once you bring all your thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ by the power given to you by the Holy Spirit, then walking in righteousness becomes easier. Peace :)

I know it works at CF but I wasnt sure if it worked here also never thought to try it here

The spirit is willing ... but the flesh is weak~
 
I'm not sure @ pilgrimpassingthru..I just do it ..it's a force of habit...let me know if it does pls
