I can't take this anymore. I feel so sad like 90% of the time. I know its all being brought on by me, because I keep failing as a Christian. I am good in some areas with my walk with CHRIST, but tend to fail miserably in my weak areas. I feel like God is not gonna keep forgiving me if I keep on willing fully sinning. Like for instance being afraid to mention him to others out of fear of being made fun of or breaking my fast. I understand ALL Christians mess up daily, but I am just down in this deep valley and feel like I can't keep going on. I'm still trying to pray and read my Bible daily but I get so distracted on others things. I don't wanna grow cold on the Lord, but I'm afraid to talk to anyone. I wanna feel Joy again.

Or maybe you're experiencing genuine depression and that's why it's difficult to obey. It may be a good idea to seek some assistance to figure out the cause. If it is situational, or if it's something else.

Ah! well no wonder your feeling depressed, your too focused on what you don't do right. If you focus on sin and your shortcomings instead of keeping your eyes on Jesus and knowing that your righteousness is in HIM and your confidence is in HIM then of course your going to be down. It's depressing looking at ourselves and focusing on ourselves that's why you don't want to do that. Focus on Gods goodness and His Love for you don't focus on yourself and your shortcomings because we all have them and were all accepted anyway :)

One can be the most devout Christian and have depression. It can be a chemical imbalance. I was just diagnosed with severe clinical depression. Going to go for an examination to see if there's something in the brain. To the OP, please go see someone. The mind is something not to take likely.

If your afraid people will make fun of you for your beliefs, your not obligated to throw your pearls before the swine (Matthew 7:6). Why would you even want to discuss God with those who would just subject you to ridicule? You can start feeling joy by not condemning yourself for 'messing up'. As others have mentioned, I doubt that is the source of your depression, it likely stems from something else?

Just wanted to remind you that God loves you. He has created you and called you. Your are adopted into his family. We are clothed in Christs righteousness, when God looks at us he sees Christ's righteousness. He has forgiven you and if you repent he will continue to forgive you. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9

Nothing can separate us from God's love
neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8v39

Maybe it isn't God who wont forgive you but yourself. Yes we should strive not to sin however we will never be free from sin during this earthly life. If God has forgiven us what right do we have to condem ourselves. Some of the things aren't sins, Dan58 is spot on about knowing when to share your faith and when not too.

If you are depressed or think you might be depressed please get some help.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

All the others said it so well that all I can add is

Psalm 43

1Vindicate me, my God,
and plead my cause
against an unfaithful nation.
Rescue me from those who are
deceitful and wicked.
2You are God my stronghold.
Why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?
3Send me your light and your faithful care,
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell.
4Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.

5Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

I struggle at times in my faith in Jesus Christ. I am a Christian minister, and I feel like a failure whenever I mess up. However, God gently reminds me that I am one of His sons in whom He is well-pleased. God wants you to know that you are one of His daughters whom He truly loves. My prayer for you is that you will not give up. God has great plans for you. He can work in, with, and through you despite the depression you are experiencing. (((Acr96))) Christian hug

I used to be depressed, suffered from anxiety attacks etc. Depression is anger turned inwards. Anger is the result of unprocessed pain. Pain usually comes from boundaries that have been crossed and core values being violated....usually by people that you trust or want to trust.

Dear one, we all sin, every single day, and every sin is willful. But, the message of the gospel is this:

You are forgiven of all of your sins. Past, present, and all future sins are under the blood of Jesus. He took every single one of them upon Himself. You cannot be anymore forgiven than you are right now. God will never love you any more or any less than He does at this moment. You are His child, and will remain His child forever.

The Bible says there is nothing in all creation that can snatch us out of God's hand. Are you a part of that creation? Then you yourself cannot be separated from Him.

Rejoice in the fact that all of your sins are forgiven you, and that you have eternal security in Christ.

I was having worst situation than this in the past until I met a man of God who really help me rebuild my faith in the Lord and walk me out it. Praise Almighty God for my life today.

Not a psychologist, but please get help. My grandfather fought in WWII vet, a oil roughneck, boxer, and a devout Christian. He also suffered from depression. If it could happen to him, it can happened to anybody. I'm praying for you brother.

Hello ACR96,
I've gone through this.
It was a cycle I kept going through of failures, depression, eventual coming up out of the depression resolved to do better, failure again, depression again, etc.

I wanted so badly to be good. I believed Jesust hat if I have anger in myh eart, it is murder, even if I don't physically shoot anyone. I believed Him instead of what the world says about murder.

And He would stop coming to my senses. By that I mean, I could no longer...FEEL Him. And I would think the reason why was because I had sinned. But that isn't the reason why. I can try to explain what is happening when we go through a period of not sensing Him, later if you want me to.

You (and I, because I did this too) are like the foolish Galatians. Having begun in the Spirit, we are now trying to finish in our own strength what began in the Spirit in our new birth.

Your depressions are caused because of this. Not only can we not save ourselves, we also cannot make ourselves more holy and good.

Salvation is through trust in Him alone. You realize that. I did too. But what you are failing to see is that sanctification (being made good, more holy), ALSO comes only through trust/faith in Him to do it.

Stop striving to be good and just rely on Him. You can't do heart surgery on yourself, on your heart, your emotions, your mind. Cease all striving and know that I am God.

Wonderful replies to a hurting individual!

Acr96 it really does sound like you are clinically depressed.
There is no sin here - depression is an illness with a biological cause.

Please understand that in God we have a father, not a prosecuting attorney.
Of course we mess up - if we did not then of what value would the blood of Christ be to us.
However, when we do sin then in God we have a Father who is faithful to forgive us.

Dear brother or sister we are part of the family of God: rejoice!
Note that joy is not the same as happiness.
The Bible often commands us to rejoice in God in circumstances where we would not be happy.

I just want to add, that our salvation is not about what we do, but rather what Jesus did on the cross. While we do need to be following God - he knows our weaknesses and our failures. You simply cannot lose your salvation. That is a lie from the devil.

And do see a doctor about this depression. The longer you wait, the longer it will take to recover. There is a turning point, at which you will have to be on medications the rest of your life. I know someone that did this. They couldn't admit how depressed they were, even when a doctor noticed how depressed they were. Finally, 20 years later this person finally got on medication, and it made a huge difference to their life. But that person will have to stay on medication forever, because the brain loses its ability to heal after a certain point.

So I urge you to see depression as a disease which is colouring your relationship with God. It makes everything look bleak and hopeless. Especially when theologically, you are mixed up about God's love for you. Praying for you to get help as soon as possible.

I think it's important to remember that we are still in a fallen world. It rains on the just and the unjust. If you have clinical depression, it's a medical condition and you should seek help. The Christian world as a whole tends toward preaching that all you need is the Bible, and if you're depressed, it's sin. That's garbage. They wouldn't tell someone to repent of a brain tumor. I was suicidally depressed for an extended period of time, and I would not have made it without medication. I went off medication eventually, but it's something that always needs to be monitored if you are prone to it. There is no Biblical justification for worrying about losing your salvation because of sin. God poured out his wrath onto Jesus at the cross for ALL the sins of the believers. If you follow Christ, you will obviously be conscious of your sin and will be led by the Holy Spirit to desire the things of God. But you can't undue grace. It was all finished at the cross, and you can be assured that God is not angry with you. He will not lose you, but will leave the flock to catch you and break your legs if you try to run away. Forgive yourself and view yourself as God views you.......a redeemed person that is still in the flesh and part of a fallen world. But this world is passing away and so will our troubles. God Bless.
