actually EVE should be the one we are blaming. *smirk*.

Eve may have sinned first, but Scripture shows that Adam was standing right next to her, watching her as she sinned. He said and did nothing to stop her, so ultimately if we have to blame one over the other, it was his fault for not stopping her when he had the chance :)

The scripture you posted says we are born in sin. We can ask why, but would knowing the answer change things?

If the scripture says by one's man disobedience we all are made sinners , remember that the scripture also says:

"For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!"

The choice that we are given is the choice to choose Christ and by choosing Him, that is, by accepting His sacrifice on the Cross, we are no longer under the law, but under grace.

The fact that you did not have any say in being "born in sin" does not not let you off the hook.

There are many opinons out there, but what the Bible says is what counts. What Jesus taught us is what counts.

In John 3 it says-

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.</SPAN>
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

The question is -

Do you believe what is written in the Bible?

Do you believe what Jesus said is true?

God Bless,

I can't believe you actually believe that aspen 'original sin is not disobedience it is a failure to repent'

So sin is not being disobedient, it is just the fact that you never repent? I think you seriously need to rethink what sin is aspen.

The very fact that they did not repent makes matters worse as we saw the consequences, however it was the act of Disobedience that brought death, that hurt God to the core, that went against God.

Of course in a sense it was Blasphemous, you are right there as long as your not referring to the blasphemy against the spirit to which Jesus spoke.

The blasphemey in the garden was such of relying on the serpent, believing him against God.

phil

I believe that disobedience in the Garden is a sin - I just think the reason it had a lasting affect on humanity is because it remained unforgiven and the habit of passing responsibility to others was taught throughout the generations until Jesus died for our sins.

Whoa, this isn't so! The Bible says that they were clearly changed.

Quest

They were changed - there is no doubt about it. But if they asked God for forgiveness He would have given it to them instantly. And the would have remained in fellowship with Him. And instead of passing down the habit of shirking responsibility and the cruelty of God to future generations, they would have passed on the compassion and forgiveness of God.

Jesus is God of the living He said. Abraham, Moses and most likely Adam were all in heaven when Jesus was on earth. It was Cain and his descendants that cruelly departed from God. I believe Adam and Eve are in heaven with Abel.

Quest

Before Jesus preached to the spirits in prison? How so? They never repented of their sins.

So this is like asking: Did I really kill someone or was the knife too sharp? (not that I actually killed someone)

We're presented with choices everyday, good and bad. Whichever we choose is totally us.

I agree with this.

I actually find it kinda funny that the same people who preached that a loving G-d would allow His Creation free will and would not "predestine" them because that would make them "robots" would also preach that this same "loving" G-d d a m ns mankind from the very beginning for a sin that not a single one of them committed.

Romans 5:12-15

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

13(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

2 Timothy 2:13-15

For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

I believe the Bible is trying to tell us something. Paul talks about Adam's transgression, but the author of 2 Timothy says that Adam was not deceived and that Eve was the one in the transgression. This cannot be a contradiction. The Bible says tha Adam was a figure of him that was to come. He was a Son of God and there is no sin in God. There was nothing physically or spiritually imperfect with Adam. He was formed and directly breathed into his nostrils, the breath of life by God. Eve on the other hand, was taken out of Adam. He was given an element directly by the Lord God, Eve was the only element in creation at this time that could have been susceptible to the serpent. She was of the flesh of Adam. I believe the physical act of the sin in the garden was a sexual act. And I believe Adam did what he did to save his wife! Adam had sin imputed upon him to save his wife through chilbearing.

Jeremiah 3:1

They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

Genesis 3:17

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

Adam, by law could have divorced his wife.

Matthew 5:31-32

It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Though he could have, he didn't. He was a son of God and the figure of Him who was to come. She was flesh of his flesh, and bone of his bones. He did it out of love for his wife!

Malachi 2:13-16

And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

14Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
15And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 16For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

Adam had knew God. He walked with Adam. He knew fully what he did but had faith and hope in the God he walked with to deliver not only him, but his wife as well! If Adam had diveorced Eve, she would have been eternally lost!

Romans 8:19-21

For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

20For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

I believe what Adam did, he did it out of love for his wife. I believe none of us in a sense, would be here today if it wasn't for Adam. He layed his life down for her in the hope that God would raise them up again in faith!

God said everybody will be responsible for their own sin.

We are not condemned by Adam's sin specifically and we do not inherit Adam's sin but when Adam and Eve sinned it caused mankind to have a choice of good and evil so everybody is born in to sin and everybody will sin before they come to God because we have a choice when we are born.

It is because Adam and Eve gave us a choice that we are aware of after we are born at some time that caused us to be born in to sin.Everybody will sin before they come to God because we are not born knowing God because of our choice but have to make that choice later in life.

Wrong - free will existed before the Fall. We had the freewill to choose between good choices. After the Fall, we could only choose between less good choices. Christ had to die for ours sins to restore our ability to make good choices.

Whoa....Aspen....Whenever I made this argument, you instantly labeled me a Calvinist and cautioned me on the duality of my thinking.....what is going on here?

Greeting Sharp,

I am just in the process of reading a very excellent lecture. This lecture makes clear the problem of sin and the blame for sin, and the unwillingness of men to truly repent. I suggest that you give this a read, as I think it will answer your question best.

The lecture is titled: SINNERS NOT WILLING TO BE CHRISTIANS

"Ye will not come to me that ye might have life."--John 5:40

Quest

Can you pick on poems? Well I will, sorry Grace :p Sounded pretty though!

How can nature love God by the way they were made but later it says that if it isn't a choice then it isn't truly love?

Well Sharp, this is a deep subject. I will say this, if we had not known sin and the consequences of it then how would we know the mercy of God?

Here is a sermon I found interesting, it's on Romans 5. It's all about this topic.

Eve ate the fruit...BUT adam ate it, too...no escape lol

I heard a preacher once say that there is no way that Adam would have eaten the fruit, so that satan had to tempt Eve first. I can't remember where I heard this preached, but the argument was that it's the way God designed men and women, that Adam wouldn't have been able to be deceived into taking the fruit first. He could only be deceived by receiving it from his Wife.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Quest

Can anyone recommend any websites or articles which focus specifically on the infection of sin to the human race via Adam, i.e not the whole passage, just the principle espoused in verse 12 or 19.

I understand the passage and the comparison being made. I am just now wanting to gain more understanding on the mechanics of Adam's sin being counted against all of us.

Thanks to everyone for your input and sources.

possibilities

1. that the sin of adam was the mere occasion of other men becoming sinners; whether this was by the force of example, or by an unfavourable change in their circumstances, or in some other unexplained manner, being left undecided.

2. that in virtue of community, or numerical oneness of nature between adam and his posterity, his act was strictly their act, and made them sinners as it made him a sinner.

3. that as the apostacy of adam involved a corruption of nature, that corruption was transmitted to his descendents, by the general physical law of propagation.

4. that the sin of adam was the juidicial ground of the condemnation of his race. they were by his sin constituted sinners in a legal or forensic sense; as by the righteousness of Christ we are constituted legally righteous.

the writer of these 4 options says option 4 is right.

i'm leaning towards 2 and 3.
