I came across this today and I'm going to repost it. In the OP I was talking about a man that says that he is a Christian but has decided to live the gay lifestyle. We have gotten off topic, as we usually do, about how the Gospel should be shared with gay people. And while this is fine, the OP was about a Christian man,not someone outside the church. What I am about to post is from a woman who grew up with two mothers and then became a Christian. Its from her viewpoint, how this lifestyle affected her life. It seems to me that everyone is focused on the gay person, but what about their family? There is more than one focus here. Its long but I hope you will take the chance to read it.

Dear Gay Community: Your Kids are Hurting

Gay community, I am your daughter. My mom raised me with her same-sex partner back in the ’80s and ’90s. She and my dad were married for a little while. She knew she was gay before they got married, but things were different back then. That’s how I got here. It was complicated as you can imagine. She left him when I was two or three because she wanted a chance to be happy with someone she really loved: a woman.

My dad wasn’t a great guy, and after she left him he didn’t bother coming around anymore.

Do you remember that book, “Heather Has Two Mommies”? That was my life. My mom, her partner, and I lived in a cozy little house in the ‘burbs of a very liberal and open-minded area. Her partner treated me as if I was her own daughter. Along with my mom’s partner, I also inherited her tight-knit community of gay and lesbian friends. Or maybe they inherited me?

Her partner treated me as if I was her own daughter. Along with my mom’s partner, I also inherited her tight-knit community of gay and lesbian friends. Or maybe they inherited me?

Either way, I still feel like gay people are my people. I’ve learned so much from you. You taught me how to be brave, especially when it is hard. You taught me empathy. You taught me how to listen. And how to dance. You taught me not be afraid of things that are different. And you taught me how to stand up for myself, even if that means I stand alone.

I’m writing to you because I’m letting myself out of the closet: I don’t support gay marriage. But it might not be for the reasons that you think. It’s not because you’re gay. I love you, so much. It’s because of the nature of the same-sex relationship itself.

Growing up, and even into my 20s, I supported and advocated for gay marriage. It’s only with some time and distance from my childhood that I’m able to reflect on my experiences and recognize the long-term consequences that same-sex parenting had on me. And it’s only now, as I watch my children loving and being loved by their father each day, that I can see the beauty and wisdom in traditional marriage and parenting.

Same-sex marriage and parenting withholds either a mother or father from a child while telling him or her that it doesn’t matter. That it’s all the same. But it’s not. A lot of us, a lot of your kids, are hurting. My father’s absence created a huge hole in me, and I ached every day for a dad. I loved my mom’s partner, but another mom could never have replaced the father I lost.

I grew up surrounded by women who said they didn’t need or want a man. Yet, as a little girl, I so desperately wanted a daddy. It is a strange and confusing thing to walk around with this deep-down unquenchable ache for a father, for a man, in a community that says that men are unnecessary. There were times I felt so angry with my dad for not being there for me, and then times I felt angry with myself for even wanting a father to begin with. There are parts of me that still grieve over that loss today.

I’m not saying that you can’t be good parents. You can. I had one of the best. I’m also not saying that being raised by straight parents means everything will turn out okay. We know there are so many different ways that the family unit can break down and cause kids to suffer: divorce, abandonment, infidelity, abuse, death, etc. But by and large, the best and most successful family structure is one in which kids are being raised by both their mother and father.

Gay marriage doesn’t just redefine marriage, but also parenting. It promotes and normalizes a family structure that necessarily denies us something precious and foundational. It denies us something we need and long for, while at the same time tells us that we don’t need what we naturally crave. That we will be okay. But we’re not. We’re hurting.

Kids of divorced parents are allowed to say, “Hey, mom and dad, I love you, but the divorce crushed me and has been so hard. It shattered my trust and made me feel like it was my fault. It is so hard living in two different houses.” Kids of adoption are allowed to say, “Hey, adoptive parents, I love you. But this is really hard for me. I suffer because my relationship with my first parents was broken. I’m confused and I miss them even though I’ve never met them.”

But children of same-sex parents haven’t been given the same voice. It’s not just me. There are so many of us. Many of us are too scared to speak up and tell you about our hurt and pain, because for whatever reason it feels like you’re not listening. That you don’t want to hear. If we say we are hurting because we were raised by same-sex parents, we are either ignored or labeled a hater.

This isn’t about hate at all. I know you understand the pain of a label that doesn’t fit and the pain of a label that is used to malign or silence you. And I know that you really have been hated and that you really have been hurt. I was there, at the marches, when they held up signs that said, “God hates fags” and “AIDS cures homosexuality.” I cried and turned hot with anger right there in the street with you. But that’s not me. That’s not us.I know this is a hard conversation. But we need to talk about it. If anyone can talk about hard things, it’s us. You taught me that.

The biggest problem on this site is when people are too literal and give no place for the spirit to interpret.
Are we not one body?
We all have a way of communication that's different from others. Must we hold everyone to such a high degree of perfection when we can ask the Holy Spirit what they mean?
Are we all loved and accepted or just some?

Warfare= fight
Nobody knows his situation unless the HS has revealed it to you.. it's discord and damaging to slander someone.
Christ died for him too..
Where is the love and restoration at?

People who claim Christ but rail others are the very reason the rest are a joke to the world..
By your love they will know you're my disciples..
Lack of love and wisdom is evident and embarrassing. The rest of us left to do clean up duty for those who assume a judge position...
Who just damages their own body?? Or do you not live being aware that they are connected to you and when you speak on them it's all of us who are affected??

I don't know where you get slander from, but its not wrong to call sin, sin. This person is in a place of ministry and influence and he should step out and get right with God. To whom much is given, much is required.

Quote "Christ died for him too.. Where is the love and restoration at?

You don't have to accept someones sin to love them. I'll share a little personal story to show what I mean.

Years ago my uncle, who was not a Christian at the time but was raised in church as a youngster, divorced his wife. Not long after that he got involved with another woman. He called my father and said he was coming to visit with his girlfriend. He lived far enough away that they would have to stay overnight. He said that he didn't want his gf embarrassed and they would be sleeping together. And to that my father said " You know I love you,but you know Im a Christian and you know my stand. You can come and visit but you will not be sleeping with a woman you aren't married to under my roof." My uncle got angry and my father said " I have two young daughters that are impressionable, what message would I be sending if I allowed you to come and sleep with your girlfriend?" It took a lot of years for my uncle and his future wife to get over that upset, but to my father he took a stand for the sake of us as children. You can love someone without condoning what they do. And that is real love. I love you,but you are on the wrong path, you need to get right with the Lord. All the more so for someone who knows the truth.

Offense will come but woe to him by who the offense comes..
I say all the time God is a King and His word is clear that none of us should have the audacity to hinder or hurt anyone.. Grace forgiveness should be appreciated not scoffed at.. those who show mercy will receive it.. not everyone gets it..
IT AMAZING HOW FEW PEOPLE TREMBLE AT THE THOUGHT OF WHAT WE WERE SAVED FROM.. THEY USE IT AS A LICENSE TO BELITTLE AND CONDEMN AS THO THEY WERE ALWAYS PERFECT AND ARE COMPLETE IN WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.. God isn't on a throne for no reason.. He should be revered by all.. Since we all have read that He loves us why do we berate those Christ died for?
Love..... Hate the sin not the person.. disagree but don't dislike the person.. If our adversary is the devil then nothing from a person should be taken personally since we read he works thru people.. Pray for them instead..
I want everyone in heaven.. bc the alternative is terrible

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but Christians are a joke to the world. The Bible says so. And telling someone that sin leads to death is not "railing" on people.

Quote "By your love they will know you're my disciples.. "

Love means you tell people the truth. The people who love me the most are honest with me,especially when I need it.

Quote "Lack of love and wisdom is evident and embarrassing. The rest of us left to do clean up duty for those who assume a judge position... "

Wow, quite a statement. Because your lack of love and wisdom is showing against your brothers/sisters in Christ. No one has to "judge" homosexuality or any other sin, its already been "judged" by God.

Quote "The rest of us left to do clean up duty..."

Here's a thought why don't you reach people the way you feel led and let others do the same? Then you'll only have your own duty to clean up.

Quote "
Who just damages their own body?? "

A person who insists on sin is no longer part of the body. NT is pretty clear on that. Sin is not suppose to be allowed to grow and influence other Christians. We're talking about sin inside the church and that is dealt with much differently than those outside the church.

I'm sorry but you're using that verse out of context. It makes my point more than it does yours.

Matt 18 -
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! 8If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

This man is in ministry and he is an influence with the teens he is ministering to. Preaching a false doctrine, that God is ok with gays and the lifestyle is causing them to stumble. Those verses apply to him.

Quote "I say all the time God is a King and His word is clear that none of us should have the audacity to hinder or hurt anyone.. "

And yet he is doing just that by willfully turning away from the truth. He's breaking his family, what do you think will be the impact on them down the road? Do they not matter? Sin makes us stupid. He's the one causing the hurt and the hindrance by choosing sin over righteousness.

Quote "Grace forgiveness should be appreciated not scoffed at.. those who show mercy will receive it.. not everyone gets it.. "

God can't give forgiveness if we don't ask for it,nor mercy. This man has chosen to walk away from grace and forgiveness, and thats his choice. You can pray that he returns but you dont allow someone to stay in ministry that insists on living a lifestyle against God.

Quote "IT AMAZING HOW FEW PEOPLE TREMBLE AT THE THOUGHT OF WHAT WE WERE SAVED FROM.. THEY USE IT AS A LICENSE TO BELITTLE AND CONDEMN AS THO THEY WERE ALWAYS PERFECT AND ARE COMPLETE IN WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE..

Its amazing to me how people condemn judging and then turn around and do the very same thing. No one here is claiming to be sinless and perfect. Your statement is a judgement call and your rather biased opinion.

Quote "God isn't on a throne for no reason.. He should be revered by all.."

Well you certainly have that right. Would you say that someone who is ministry, knows the truth and yet turns away and says that God is ok with their sin, do you think that is revering God? First of all he has no Biblical reason to divorce, homosexuality isn't the only thing he is defying God on.

Quote "Since we all have read that He loves us why do we berate those Christ died for?"

Saying homosexuality is sin isn't berating anyone.

Quote "Hate the sin not the person.. disagree but don't dislike the person"

I dont see one person here talking about hate.

Quote "I want everyone in heaven.."

Then share the full Gospel with them. Tell them the truth and let the Holy Spirit convict them.

Who hates gays but those fake Christians who deceive them into thinking their deviant behavior is in some way acceptable to God? Gods Word tells us to reprove the darkness and warn these people .. "save some by fear" ....

Kind of like those Democratic politicians who claim to love the LGBT community, but turn a blind eye to those who slay them.

Being in the world but not of the world. I don't think it is a Christians job to change the world. We are all given a circle of influence and we simply need to be the eye in the storm that we inhabit.

He's not a Christian? Are you really going to make that determination? You don't think Christians can be deceived and caught up in stuff, and later come to realize the errors of their ways?
If I claimed to be a Christian, but told you that I believe He is the companion god to Baal, would you say Im a Christian?

What I'm saying is the majority of Christians today would have no problem going up to a porn star, seeing the bullet holes in their wounded soul, and tell them that Jesus loves them. What they would never do is say the same to a gay person walking in a parade. They would be much more comfortable talking about how disgusting they are as humans, and feel okay about it because hey, they're just telling the truth. I'm not saying you exactly, because I don't know you. But "preaching the truth" is code for many people to justify their looking down on people and being angry with them. The heart is deceitfully wicked, and deceives even genuine believers in many ways.
This is not a gay pride parade, and we are not spreading the Gospel in this thread. We are on a Christian online forum, a place for discussion, talking about world events that are relevant and meaningful to us, and how we feel.

And yes, he has commited shameful acts. Just like all of us. That is why the Gospel is the "good news".

No one is ever going to bring a gay person to repentance apart from the fear of Gods judgment being very apparent and clear to them.
This^ is literally how I came to God.

I know the bible and sound doctrine is offensive to the liberal worldly mindset ..but the bible tells us how to deal with these issues..not some liberal propaganda promoting the gay agenda. It is written that in the end Christians will not endure sound doctrine but want folks to tickle their ears .
