I think I am still single because I am still learning about me and God's plan for me. If I wanted a relationship for the sole purpose of trying to "be in love" or just to escape the loneliness of singleness I think I could. But I want so much more than that at some point. Maybe that is just my excuse for guarding my heart. Whatever the case, I think it is important to find happiness and contentment in all seasons.

I guess it's mostly because I'm not interested in dating at the moment.

I have three reasons:

1. I have too much baggage from my past that I need to rid myself of, inner healing that I need to go through, and emotional and spiritual maturity that I need to attain, first. I know myself well enough to realize that though I am much better than I once was, I am still at the point those issues might spill over into the relationship . . . and I do not want to inflict the poor man with that. It is not fair or kind to him.

2. God has asked me to do a very tough thing as my calling. I have not yet found anyone who has the same calling that I do . . . and I will not drag him into my calling, because if he is not meant for it, it will be a nightmare for him and I know it would ruin our relationship. I also refuse to abandon what God has asked me to do, to chase after someone; to do so would be a terrible mistake. I must wait until I meet someone who has the same calling.

3. I want to focus on my schooling / studying.

I am aware that there is a possibility that I may never find a spouse, and while that would make me rather lonely . . . it does not devastate me. Ladies old enough to be my mother and grandmother are more worried about it than I am; it seems to cause them great distress that I am content to possibly become a spinster rather than seek to snag a husband.

I could say the cliche "this is where God wants me" etc but let's be honest with ourselves, there are other reasons as well.

I have a few various reasons. 2 years ago I broke off an engagement to the only guy I had ever dated that wasn't abusive. It still however wasn't healthy. He and my Dad had major issues (and I'm an only child of a single father who is my best friend) and he also was disabled and didn't have a job so I was the breadwinner. Granted, that wasn't a huge deal, I didn't have a problem being the sole provider but at the same time, he didn't clean after himself...I'm off track

After that engagement was broken, I have been on ONE date in the past 2 years....ONE. And the fact that it was only one was because the guy lived out of state and it was just a nice get together rather than a date.

For awhile I could be fine with the singleness as it gave me and my heart time to heal, but after awhile I started enjoying doing what I wanted, not having to discuss any decisions I made with someone else and living my own life on my terms (which are God's terms)

So for now I'm single because I don't want to be tied down. I'm in graduate school, have a great group of friends, an awesome Church family and a job that pays well and has great hours and schedule. I don't have a need (or time) for a relationship. Do I get lonely? Sure. But it passes.

I am not really looking. I have had a recent share of less than eventful relationships. I feel that I need to be solo for a little longer. Last relationship was really damaging on me personally. Current status not ready. God wants me to feel it to heal it. I just don't have interest or the feeling.
