I have prayed many times to God to show me dreams or visions. So far to the best of my knowledge I have yet to actually have one take place. I want to have an excellent relationship with Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit. I have received Jesus into my heart, read my bible daily, pray daily, and sing praise and worship music. I want to have dreams and visions from God, but it seems that there are a lot if people who do have them. However, I am deeply sadened when I don't have them. Does anyone know how to receive dreams and visions from God? Is it something that happens when God wants them to? Is it possible to pray to have them and actually have God grant the request. Sometimes I think I must be doing something against His will or have a sin in my life that is keeping my prayers from being answered. Does anyone have any thoughts that can help me out?

I do get a lot of dreams and sometimes visions/pictures from God, but I would be the
first to say don't pin all your hopes and ambitions and desires on receiving them.
God speaks to people in all sorts of ways.

God speaks to people in all sorts of different ways and in ways He knows you are open to.
An analogy, God would not speak you in Japanese if you only speak English etc !
For me the dreams stated as a child, I was really fascinated by the stories about solomon
and use to go to bed every night praying for the wisdom of Solomon, then the dreams
started. But on the other hand I also tell people that I'm probably so busy during the day
that I have to be unconscious before God can get a word in edgeways.
Pray that God will give you a heart and mind that is receptive to Him. At the start of each
Bible study, quiet time, services etc ask God to speak to you and invite the Holy Spirit to
meet with you and guide you.
Have you ever had a light bulb moment while in prayer or reading the bible, or a verse
has really stood out and been meaningful - that is you hearing God's voice. Have you ever
felt joy and praise build up while singing - that is you having fellowship with God and
rejoicing with Him for all He has done. There are so many other examples I could give.
Having said that I think many people probably have had dreams and pictures but don't
recognise them. They can sometimes be mistaken for sporadic random thoughts.
To give you an example I was thinking about the day's events a few days back and a thought
(a picture I prefer that name to visions) popped into my head of a mountain with a large
mouth of a cave, a water fall was running down the mouth of the cave and it felt like it was
hiding something inside. The idea came to climb up and walk through the waterfall and
into the cave.
I thought - strange, why would I think of that it wasn't part of my musings! So at first I
put it out of my mind. But I could not forget about it and felt like I had to email a friend.
So later in the day I did.

the other day I was at ######### and the screen saver was on
the television the screen saver is full of beautiful Landscapes and
nature !! One of the Pictures made me really think was a picture of a
cave cut up high in the Mountain outside and in front of the
cave there was a waterfall fast flowing water over the mountain
cascading down in front of the cave !
I thought how beautiful it looked
I also thought I wonder what's in this cave
I wondered about getting in and thought how difficult it would be
then thought how difficult it looked to get too
often the most beautiful things are hard to find or get too.
How many of us bother to hunt for the treasure that God has in Store
Those of us who can be bothered to make the effort
Search Climb Walk for miles and just when you feel like giving up
There it is the PRIZE

Her response really blessed both of us and we just knew this was from God.
Ive posted her response as maybe this is what you need to do, to climb that
mountain spiritually and find that overflowing cave full of God.
Sometimes we have to show God we are serious about wanting something
and can be trusted with it, before He will give it to us.
I would say that with dreams and pictures there is usually some form of confirmation
involved, or teaching, something to learn or take note of in them. Discernment is
also needed so as not to think everything is a dream or picture from God. Before
asking for dreams/pictures prayer for wisdom and discernment first. Ask God to
give you dreams and pictures but only if it is right for you and more importantly,
ask Him what to do with them.
But if it's not how God wants to speak to you, then don't be disappointed He will
have other ways of speaking to you.
