yeah. I think it's a good idea to limit the nr of threads a new member can make.
As a new member, I find it unlikely you need to start more than.... let's say.. two threads a day, or more than then threads a week? (I think I've started about one thread a year :p )

Might help prevent bots and bored people :p

Whatever you do, do NOT simply post them a message expressing your concerns. This board will quickly become a clique with this kind of mentality. Lets only accept those who are lie us. Close the church door to all others.Maybe this is why the christian church has so many different denominations. I think Jesus cries over our idea of christian togetherness and brotherhood.

Troll much?
This is not about exclusion, but about protecting current members
This is about keeping people from posting 15 threads about inflammatory topics,
or keeping spam bots from posting "Call this nr to get black magic help with your love life" (Seriously, it has happened quite a lot)

does anyone else think it might be a good idea to disallow new members to post threads the minute they join?

oh I know, some will say, well people join and post in the family forum because they need help

this is what I am really talking about

someone just joined on the 15th and they have started thread after thread...8 within the last 24 hours and each one is nothing but doctrine for their particular beliefs...which appear to be RCC...I could be wrong

but, and you can disagree, I think it would be helpful to have new members engage forum members with say...100 or so posts, before allowing them to take over the place and everyone is busy refuting what they have to say and they just keep creating new threads

IMO, the person who does that kind of thing, is using this forum as a platform and has no intention of actually joining in

kick it to the curb? good idea? anyhow, that's what I think about the ability of new members to go post multiple threads when we don't even know what they believe or who they believe in

thanks
I would like to see the administrators err on the side of too few rules, rather than too many.

Your first two words show me you do not take the teachings of Jesus to heart. Jesus says judge not lest ye be judged. Yet you judge me as a troll. You insult me and call me names , such a loving example to start your message with. Let me continue to read it. Protecting current members? From who , current member such as yourself ready to pounce on people as soon as they enter the premises. Do you have guard dogs protecting your home and a gun to shoot any one who come onto your property with you prior approval?
Inflammatory topics ? Jesus DIED because he dared teach about inflammatory topics. If that is your definition of a troll, then Jesus is my favorite troll and I feel it a compliment that you call me one.

Maybe it is the trolls that need Jesus more than the self righteous Christians determined to keep them out.

Just my thoughts.........but, I betcha the Admin(s) have discussed these ideas many times. And, for whatever reason, determined how they would set up the Site to accomplish the desired goal of presenting a Christian Site to the world.

The first thing that has to be considered when any suggested revision of the operational functions of a Site are discussed is "how much will such a revision add to the workload of the Admin(s) and/or Moderators?" Now, I am not commenting on the validity of the suggestion(s) in question, just saying that unless one has been an Admin/Moderator before, they have no idea of the real amount of time and effort it takes to "watch over" a Public Web Site. Especially one that is Christian based in it's beliefs and presentation.

Christian Sites are the most "attacked" Sites on the Internet.............

(anyway, my thoughts.......I have ideas all the time I think of presenting to the Admin(s) here, but I usually end up figuring that they have probably already thought of them as well, and determined that they would proceed with what has proven to be the best possible course of action with the least harm done to Members here)

yup...good thoughts on this

a limited # of threads per day sounds like the popular vote

perhaps something in the code? I've seen this work really well at other sites

I've been around the web a few times now LOL!

I usually do not start threads. I read messages others post and then add my own point of view in my reply.
This is the thread that was started to suggest limiting the ability of new members to share their thoughts and I have added my view that new members should be allowed to share and if you have a problem with any individual then take it up with them as an individual and do not limit the freedoms of all because some one "might" violate their privilege.

false representation mah man

that is not at all why I started this thread

you do seem rather good at derailing though

freedoms? funny...you seem to want to limit what others think, never mind say

ironic

ps..the game of ping pong posting with you stops for me here

Please forgive my ignorance but what is RCC?

RCC is the Roman Catholic church.

What are rep points used for? I've not seen them in any of the other forums I frequent.

Rep points increase your rep powers and green bars. They are given when someone really likes or is impressed with a post you have made. For every 100 points, you gain a power. If someone with multiple powers reps you, you gain as many points that they have in powers.
Oh, that is why I have almost 800 points and joined yesterday. Huh, now thats a little blessing...movin right on up quickly. Someone musta liked one of the five blogs I started in the first day.

When you reach 50 posts your accumulated rep points will translate into rep powers which will then be shown on the pages of each post. Based on what you have said, a 100 points is worth 1 rep power, also you get a rep power for the first 50 posts so you should have a rep power of at least 9. Each 1000 posts is worth a rep power, 1 rep power for each 1 year anniversary and 1 rep power for each accumulated 100 rep points. I believe that you earn a green rep bar for each rep given from different individuals. I believe that there is a max of 10 or 11 green bars but I never actually counted them. If you place your curser on a members bars it will say a little message regarding the members status.
