I'd like to start up a fun topic. I thought it would be fun to list our pet hates - you know the things in life that drive us crazy?

These are the two that spring instantly to mind though there are quite a few more that will come to mind as we go along:

1. Dirty car interiors, I am forever cleaning out mine and my husband's cars because my car in particular is my sanctuary - mainly from a messy house which of course takes much more effort to keep clean 'n' tidy.

2. People who begin their sentences with the word "so" which just isn't the English (or American) thing to do. The word "so" is a sentence joiner not a sentence beginner.

Yours?

And I thought you were going to say you hate both pet tarantulas and pet Madagascar hissing cockroaches!

So, I just had to say...(I'm sorry, that was just too good to pass up!) It also reminded me of something a friend of mine pointed out. I am very uncomfortable talking to people who I don't know, and I hate silences so I end up babbling...a lot. And she one time said to me, "Why do you always end your sentences with 'So...yeah.'?" I listened to myself, and realize I do it ALL THE TIME!! It is my newest hatred. I can't stand it and I am gradually weeding the "so yeahs" from my vocabulary. :D

Actually that doesn't bother me...it's more when answering a question. I see/hear it on interviews all the time. For instance:

Question: "Could you explain what happened when you witnessed the accident?"
Typical beginning of answer: "So the car approached me at speed."

What exactly is the purpose for the prefixed "So" in this reply?

It replaced um, uh, errr, hm. It's people forming full thought in their mind at the precise moment everyone stares at them expecting them to already have that full thought.

Ummmm, at least that's how I hear it.

I would say "ummmmmm" gives you longer to think. I think I would start with "OK" or just jump right in with the sentence.

1. Girl's voices in lieu of a woman's voice. It's not just boys that have a voice change at puberty. Girls do too. And yet it sounds like many fought through that, and now I hear women in their 30's, 40's and some even in their 50's, who sound like they're ten.

2. Uptick. The strain on the vocal cords to finish every sentence an octave HIGHER?

So, I guess I'd better clean out my car.

I hate it when people cough at the same time as I do.

I dunno why, but I really hate that >.>

And uhhhhh when Im having trouble thinking of a word during conversation, like if Im trying to remember the name of something, and someone who thinks theyre being helpful continually lists names of stuff as Im trying to talk, causing me to lose track of what I was saying. Everytime someone does that I want to say "ugh stop it! D : <", haha I really dont like it when people do that : p

Mine are:

When someone Snap's their bubblegum or chew's loudly, or when someone chews food loudly.

When someone bites or slides their teeth over a piece of silverware.

The sound of a cellophane bag opening, like a bag of chips.

The word yummy.

When someone smack's their lips.

When someone other than my Husband or Kid's stands to close to me.

Outdoor picnics, because of bug's.

Food buffet's, like that sneeze guard works.

When the person in line checking out won't get off their cell phone and is rude to the cashier.

I'm sorry, I know I have a lot.

Oh that reminds me of one, when someone makes conversation with me while Im trying to eat.

I really hate that, like Im in the middle of chewing food and they ask me a question. Obviously Im not gonna answer with a mouth full of food, so I have to sit there with my finger up signaling to give me a minute while I finish chewing my food, while they watch me do so. I really really hate it when people do that : p

Yeah for the very same reason when someone interrupts what I'm saying and then by the time they've finished saying their piece I have completely lost where I was in the conversation and what I was saying. Grrr

Very tired of the news here in California highlighting car chases on the freeway. Sometimes it runs for 30 min. or longer. This happens just about every other day. And I turned on the news to just watch this?

I always think, "Really, is this the best news this hour? Or do the networks just think that we are a people who are now "cops and robbers junkies" who need to get our nightly adrenal fix?

When someone stands too close to my face to talk.
Driving slowly in the express lane on the interstate.
People who sneeze or cough without covering their mouth.

People who come to work sick,(flu, bronchitis, stomach virus) and pass it around to everyone.

I actually know someone who will start a completely unrelated conversation in the middle of something Im trying to tell them about. Haha thats like way rude : p Thanks for listening to what I have to say : p Sometimes theyre nice enough to ask me "what were you saying?" when they finish, but by then I dont even remember anymore : p
